I would definitely start with an uninstall of the driver and Helix software from the Windows 10 "Control Panel --> Programs and Features" and then reboot the PC, and do a fresh download of HX Edit from Line6 which will include the latest driver. It sounds like you are getting either the wrong device driver or your device driver is getting corrupted in the download process somehow judging by the error message (but not necessarily). Reinstalling the correct version of HX Edit for your OS is the easiest way to guarantee you are getting the correct driver for your OS. If the above does not work and given your familiarity with Windows and former employment with Microsoft these may all be things you have tried already but here goes. Get a fresh download of the correct driver. One approach you may have already tried is right clicking on the driver in Device Manager and attempting to update it from the list of local drivers already on your machine (rather than updating from online). A fresh install might be best though. Continue to uninstall the driver first before any attempts to reload it. Have you tried loading the driver with your anti-virus software turned off including Windows 10's Defender? You might also try unplugging anything else in the USB ports and disabling every unnecessary process running on the PC for the duration of the driver install. This may include going into the Task Manager and killing unnecessary processes.

You gotta love direct communication from Line6 - some Helix history, usage tips, as well as some bread crumbs on future direction. Interesting actually hearing from the people directly involved with development and always great to hear a voice connected to DI(Eric), Will, Jay and others whom's posts I have been reading for years. Nice job and thanks for doing these!

Hmm, that is weird. And this only happens when the H9 is connected? If so, I assume you have tried alternative cables for the H9. It almost sounds like it is shorting out during the auto-calibration or in some way disrupting normal operation of the Editor. Is everything working normally when the H9 is not connected? It might be a good idea to contact L6 support as jbuhajla suggested. Good luck getting this straightened out.

Ditto that hideout. Merry, happy Everything! Thanks also everyone for the yearlong gifts of your expertise, technical tips, humor, and most of all your forbearance. Great forum! Wishing everyone happy holidays and a great New Year!

Nope, that is not normal. After getting proper backups I would run the firmware update again. I suppose you could do backups and just try a global reset and restore but I think I would just update the firmware again instead.

The "Barefoot Buttons" that the OP posted in the clear acrylic with set screws that allow capacitance-sensitive operation are still probably the nicest buttons available for the Helix as they are not only available in clear acrylic which light up nicely while allowing the best view of the LED rings, but also have a set screw which allows the capacitance sensing to work properly. There are some much lower priced alternatives but none I have seen as of now combines these two features so well. They also come in the taller "Tall Boy" version making them even higher in the back row than any other knobs available. As the OP mentions you will want to get the Barefoot "Version 1" as they appear to be the proper size for the Helix switches (I measured). If those Barefoot clear acrylics "tall boys" ever go on significant sale or a good knockoff comes around at a reasonable price I will be all over them. Some cheaper alternatives: As listed previously, inexpensive, custom "see through" colors, no cap-sensitive switching: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WCG4L7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Just found these as well on Amazon if you don't mind all of them the same color. I have not tried them. The description is a bit at odds with the title as it seems to indicate you only get one cap although the title indicates this is a set of 10. These come in at a bit under $7. https://www.amazon.com/Forfar-Electric-Amplifiers-Instruments-Accessories/dp/B077GV9S6W/ref=sr_1_9?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1514144622&sr=1-9&keywords=effect+topper https://www.amazon.com/Forfar-Electric-Amplifiers-Instruments-Accessories/dp/B077GT43CD/ref=sr_1_10?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1514144622&sr=1-10&keywords=effect+topper Inexpensive and they have set screws so may they work with cap-sensitive switching, but they are colored metal not acrylic or colored plastic so the LED ring will not be as visible: https://www.amazon.c...s=effect topper https://www.amazon.com/Effects-Footswitch-SONICAKE-Accessories-Protection/dp/B0777J1LQX/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1514146220&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=pedal+cap&psc=1 Yet another very inexpensive option for under $9 for a set of five in the gold color with set screws that hopefully allow capacitance sensitive switching. These don't have any inner rubber or plastic sleeve although I don't know how conductive they are. Entire set comes in one color although you can get different colored sets. See reviewer comments about the set screws being too long though (might not be an issue on the Helix, or, even though it may not be a functional problem it may bug you ceaselessly from an aesthetic perspective). https://www.amazon.com/Yibuy-Silver-Aluminum-Guitar-Effects/dp/B074WN1PML/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1514145108&sr=1-1&keywords=effect%2Bcap%2Bset%2Bscrew&th=1

I do believe the set screw goes all the way through but if someone gets these please report on how well they work with the Helix. I may upgrade to them at some point. Definitely enjoying having larger caps for the back row.

10 caps for $9.90 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WCG4L7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 So I just received these and put them on my Helix. These are the ones at the link above. Not sure exactly how or if I ordered them from "LikeIt Music" as the instructions in the item description indicate. I did send an email to "LikeIt Music" after my order with my color preferences and they sent me back a confirmation email for my color selection. I did receive my selected colors as ordered. They took about two & a half weeks to arrive from China to the U.S. although that is through the Christmas mail. I don't know if they would have arrived sooner if I had just received them through Amazon Prime with no custom color request and during a non-holiday season. They fit quite snugly on the Helix switches, no problem there. The LED ring lights are visible through the plastic. As you would expect the lighter colors allow the most LED ring light through but they all worked to my satisfaction. The orange and red caps will look similar when selected if the LED ring shining through is set to red color. The LED ring is least visible through the dark purple but still usable. The black caps do NOT allow any light from the LED ring through at all. If you ask for black buttons I would reserve those for other pedals, not the Helix unless you want to totally obscure your LED ring. Remember that these do not have a set screw so you will NOT have capacitance sensitive switching available on a footswitch using these caps! I used them strictly for my row of snapshots on the back row, my front row is currently stomps. Overall I am quite pleased with these. It is much easier to use the switches in the back row now as they are raised up nicely with larger surface area. Can't speak yet to their durability or how well they will maintain their fit, look, etc. over repeated stomps but for now they are working brilliantly. For a set of 10 knobs at under $10 you certainly can't beat the price. If nothing else you will get a good idea of whether or not you like using larger caps and you can invest in nicer ones down the road with set screws to regain the cap-sensitive functionality if need be. Another option would be to mix and match and purchase the more expensive metal set screw caps for your stomp switches and get these on the cheap for your snapshots (depending on how you arrange your Helix switches). The extra caps I did not end up using on the Helix should go nicely on some of my other pedals. Here is the link for some relatively inexpensive metal ones that allow color selection and I believe (I have not personally tried them) should retain the capacitance-sensitivity due to the set screws. For those of you who want and need to retain the capacitance-sensitive functionality you may want to skip the plastic ones and order these instead. Six of these will cost you about $27 and you can order mixed custom colors. See the details in the description. I have not tried these yet however. https://www.amazon.c...s=effect topper And yet another option with five caps with set screws for about $32: https://www.amazon.com/Effects-Footswitch-SONICAKE-Accessories-Protection/dp/B0777J1LQX/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1514146220&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=pedal+cap&psc=1 I have only had these plastic caps for one day so I will try to come back and update this review as and if necessary.

The Line6.com website seems to be experiencing some intermittent issues right now. I would suggest trying again later. Here is the link to open a support ticket: https://line6.com/support/tickets/

Firing up a power amp and 2x12 cab tonight, pointers welcome!
HonestOpinion replied to DirtFarmer's topic in Helix
Given the short time horizon until your gig you may want to be prepared to use the Global EQ. Not an ideal solution but you may find it the quickest easiest way to adjust your current presets to going through a different setup until you have time to really sit down and customize them individually for a different amp rig. Keep in mind that the Global EQ does not apply to the L6 Link digital output. -
One of the things that has caused this in the past has been a corrupt preset(s). Does this seem to happen only on particular presets? What version of the firmware are you on?

Thanks. I can get it to work in FL Studio with no problem. Just having no luck with Tracktion T6. If anyone figures out the procedure please post it up. Tracktion T6 is a free unlimited DAW btw from the Traction website. https://www.tracktion.com/products/t6-daw

I do believe silverhead is correct. If you don't require backups you should be able to eliminate the first firmware update I suggested and follow the instructions he referenced instead to go directly to the 2.30 firmware. After that HX Edit 2.30 should work correctly.
-
Voted! It would be nice to see this implemented particularly to enable easier IR management. For now, although it is true that Native does not allow import of a whole system backup file from HX 2.30, if you look under the settings ("wheel") icon in Native you will notice it does allow you to import a bundle. So you can export a bundle from HX Edit and import it into Native. As you pointed out though we are right back to wrestling with IR order in Native even though it has been fixed in Helix Edit. You can also of course also import setlists and individual presets to Native. The main problem right now is that snapshots are not supported yet by Native so whatever snapshot was active in a preset is the only one that will be imported. I hope IR management and snapshots are the first thing they fix in Native.
-
Did you Logic's function to scan the plugin directories so that it finds the new Native plugin? You'll want to make sure to point it to the proper directory.
-
The first two things I would check are if the Editor version matches the firmware and I would probably do a global reset of the Helix if you are able to get a good backup first.

Thanks for addressing this!

You can use snapshots with the CV out but you will need the correct cable and settings. Some folks have had problems getting CV switching to work correctly with certain amps. I am not sure if the Mark V is on that list. If someone else has gotten this working hopefully they will post up their method. It may prove to be no problem at all. Here is a video that may help. The video is for channel switching but the same principles should apply to EQ, or solo. You may have to narrow down what you are going to control via the CV ouput. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhyVwfT-lns You could also use a MIDI switcher like the RJM Gizmo https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MiniAmpGizmo?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyMjijPaP2AIVgksNCh2DGAuSEAQYAiABEgLkN_D_BwE Here is a long thread on getting the Mesa V:25 working with the Helix: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/line-6-helix-and-mesa-boogie-mark-v-25-channel-switching-issue.1628810/ -
Guess that answers that question regarding the 2.12 firmware version. So... since you just got your LT yesterday and probably are not too concerned about saving your presets I would do the following. You will have to do two firmware upgrades. The first one firmware upgrade will get you to a high enough version to allow the final upgrade to the 2.30 firmware. Upgrade to the HX Edit 2.21 software. The OS X version can be downloaded here: http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=7445 Install the software after downloading. Now use the Line 6 Updater you just unpacked to upgrade to the 2.21 firmware. Follow the firmware instructions especially the part about doing the global reset (FS 9&10). Now download and unpack HX Edit 2.30. You can find the OS X version here: http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=7883 You should now be able to use the latest Line6 Updater to upgrade the firmware 2.30. I would run the global reset (FS 9&10) one more time after the firmware upgrade just to be thorough. Then reboot one last time to allow all the presets to rebuild. Going forward you should be able to backup and restore normally using the new HX Edit 2.30 editor as well as be able to upgrade to future firmware versions.
-
I am not sure the Helix LT had a 2.12 firmware. Does anyone know what version of firmware the LT was initially released at? Are you sure you don't have the "2.21" firmware rather than the "2.12" firmware? If you have the 2.21 firmware you can go directly to HX Edit 2.30. Download and install HX Edit 2.30 and do a backup before you do a firmware upgrade if you want to retain any IRs or presets. You can find the HX Edit 2.30 software on the Line6 downoad page. http://line6.com/software/ If you are having problems locating the software let me know whether you are using Windows or Mac and I can post the direct link for the required software.

This video is a great guide to setting up MIDI amp channel switching using snapshots. -
This sounds eminently plausible. Did you derive this from Tal's post or was this the result of testing?
-
You may want to update your ticket with the observations from a2dconverterguy. They should give Line6 a leg up on identifying the bug more quickly.

Agreed, the short namespace is egregious and needs to be lengthened. This change is long overdue and it is dead obvious that it is required. Until then managing(renaming) IRs is just a huge pain. As soon as you start using more than a very few IRs or start experimenting with swapping new ones in, the contortions required for maintaining them to accommodate the too short namespace become abundantly apparent. I shouldn't require the encryption skills of a Navaho "code talker" or Alan Turing in order to maintain my IRs and have them named so that they convey the significant information regarding their configuration. Can you imagine having an OS where you had to contract every filename or they were just automatically truncated rendering them unidentifiable because the OS did not conform to modern standard naming conventions? Loading IRs right now is like trying to load a modern 30+ character filename from Windows 10 into Microsoft's very first released version of Windows limited to an 8.3 filename space. Please fix this already!!! Btw, I still think using 6 characters for the snapshot camera icon is a waste of namespace as well. It would be so easy to visually indicate a snapshot differently without eating up those valuable characters. Changing this would allow more detailed and meaningful snapshot names.
