@hag01, do yourself a favor. Use a more suitable Active FRFR PA Monitor with your soon to be acquired Helix. In the same price range as the Roland CM30 you are likely to find an Alto TS210a, or perhaps a Yamaha DBR10, JBL, or similar, far more competent monitor. Try to listen to as many as you can. If you can find a good deal on used Monitors, consider going with two. Running twin, regardless, if Mono or Stereo, is a significantly fuller, richer, and wider sound field!

Helix LT connection to studio monitors and subwoofer
MusicLaw replied to landofunland's topic in Helix
To clarify, the 10" units I referred to are not Studio Monitors. They are Active FRFR PA Monitors. As such, they are not designed primarily for near field monitoring the way most 5" and 8" Studio Monitors are used. The PA Monitors are designed to project the sound further. They may certainly be used in studios, control rooms, rehearsals, and elsewhere. They sound best when there is a bit more breathing distance between the speakers and the listening position for the sound to properly bloom. As for the JBL LSR10 Subwoofer, if I were going to use the system for more than electric guitar, the LSR305 plus subwoofer would be my prefererence too! That way the savings from the LSR308 could be applied to the LSR310 subwoofer. For solely, electic guitar (unless drop tuned or 7 string) there's very little frequency content for the Sub to handle, thus the LSR308 (or LSR305 when closer) should be adequate. -
Recheck your patch cables are in the correct jacks. Others have had that problem. Also check the level settings in the FX Loop Block, or in the Send Block and Return Block if you went that route. And, make sure that the Blocks are not Bypassed in the Helix Signal Path. Otherwise, check your cables to confirm they're good.

An A/B/Y box is all you need! I've got the inepensive LiveWire A/B/Y, and it works fine. I've used it in both signal directions and with my Relay G10, Helix, and Fender Amps without any noise or problems. The LED is plenty bright and it runs for a long time from a 9v Alkaline. Highly recommended! They're readily available from Amazon, GC, etc.

That cushion shade product looks like it might work great (so long as the underside ventillation holes of the Helix Floor are not blocked by the base cushion)! I've not seen that product hands-on. From the product website photo, seems that a pair of flat paint stir sticks (i.e furring strips) to raise the Helix just slightly to allow for airflow underneath may be useful.

If Helix Native's release target is met, we'll see how it works in 2 weeks! Hopefully, it will be glorious running under Windows 10 displayed in 4k high resolution on a large monitor.

As I recollect, Helix is intentionally handling a variety of time based processing to correct for various phasing issues in many of it's stages. I do not know to what extent, if any, this applies to the Line 6 furnished Helix Cabs, their Mic Positions and Early Reflections. I do not recollect where I read this, but I seem to remember seeing this perhaps from Ben Adrian or Eric (Digital Igloo). I have not explored viewing the phasing impact of combining multiple Helix Cabs via a DAW, but it certainly would be easier to do so once Helix Native is released.

Anyone know how to get that classic Eric Johnson sound with helix?
MusicLaw replied to MarkJarvis's topic in Helix
Line 6 artist specific Tone Templates can also be a helpful resource. See: http://line6.com/tone-templates/ The download link for the Eric Johnson Tone Template is: http://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3d89ab58b4cb30605e3/application/pdf -
You could give that a try to see how it sounds. The Pedal's output may do the job. You could also try routing the pedal's Line Out to Helix's FX Return and configure the Input Block of the signal path for that guitar to use the FX Return. In Helix's Global Settings, set that FX Return to Line Level. So long as you are not routing the power amp's output into your Helix, either of the Pedal's outputs may do the job. Granted they will be at different levels, but neither will kill your Helix's Aux In nor FX Return. Experiment and see which combination works and sounds best for you.

Simple and effective! I have two of each.

Helix LT connection to studio monitors and subwoofer
MusicLaw replied to landofunland's topic in Helix
The JBL LSR308 are very good for near field use. However, they are not capable of producing the bigger, fuller and potentially lounder sound field of a pair of powered FRFR PA Speakers such as Yamaha DXR10, DBR10, QSC K10, Alto TS210A, etc. If you feel the audio field sensation from a pair of JBL LSR308 and your Helix is inadequate for the size of your living room, consider stepping up to larger higher powered FRFR PA Monitors. JBL does have an LSR line Subwoofer. As impressive as that would be for Home Theatre and other pre-recorded material, for guitar it will not add much. -
Line 6 has got to be aware of the activity in this thread. Having now reached 216 posts, since started on April 24, 2017! Moreover, aside from the 216 posts, this thread has been viewed an astounding 4075 times! The Poll on TGP at https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/helixs-tuner-how-do-you-feel-about-its-stability.1825918/ has accumulated 971 views, and received 89 votes in the first 11 days (May 5 - May 15). By mid May, it had been displaced by newer threads. The results there hover at approximately 58/42 in favor of those satisfied with the Helix's Tuner. The sheer fact that 42 percent of the 89 respondents are dissatisfied with the Helix Tuner is an substantial minority. Should you wish to cast or change your vote, link to the Poll cited above remains valid.

You would need a reactive Load Box to connect to your Amp's Speaker Out. These Load Boxes will have a Line Level Direct Out, that you then could connects to your Helix FX Return. You would set your Helix Global Setting > I/O > to Line Level for the FX Return you choose to use on your Helix.

I run my Helix Floor through two DXR10 and it sounds phenomenal! If you do not need the higher power nor three inputs the DXR10 provide, the lower priced DBR10 are also very good! They sound nearly identical to the DXR10. And, they are still covered by Yamaha's Seven Year Manufacturer Warranty. Until you begin playing gigs, a pair of Studio Monitors, such as JBL LSR305 or JBL LSR308 are also very cost effective options. For your use, the Full Helix Floor will give you one Mic XLR In and associated PreAmp, with switchable 48v Phantom Power, an AuxIn Guitar (suitable for an Acoustic Electric), plus Four FX Sends and Returns, one of which could serve as Input for another Vocal Mic with the Mic PreAmp Block in the signal chain.

Inability to update the Helix firmware using an Android Smartphone or Android Tablet, both of which work great with a USB OTG adapter and other USB devices. And, both Android devices have plenty of processor capacity and SD Card memory to handle the Firmware, and Updater download and installation process. Heck, even the Helix Editor (essentially a slaved App for the Helix) should be operational via the USB OTG connection to these devices. The massive global proliferation of Android Mobile devices, and the looming Ban expansion of Laptops on USA bound International Flights should be more impetus for Line 6 to provide such functionality for Helix owners.

The Helix is incredibly versatile! Try connecting it however you are inspired, with the gear you have. There are no rules. If it sounds good, go with it!

Get the Full Helix. In response to your Question 1., the Full Helix Four FX Sends and Returns will gaive you the flexibility to run your external Pedals however you may wish. Also you will have the additional Aux Guitar In, for use if you prefer to you any of your external pedals in front of the Helix (other than by using the Main Guitar In). Regarding your Question 2., the Full Helix will accomdate running your Vox in 4cm, and you will still have Three (3) FX Loops available. Although the Helix LT does cost less, for your scenario, the Full Helix's additional I/O capacity is what would seem to better suit your needs.

G10 Strange LED Flashing Color Codes
MusicLaw replied to Steve2015's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
You are encouraged to submit a Support Ticket directly to Line 6 for them to take care of it. Regardless if it may be a firmware issue if yours may not be running the current firmware 1.04, or, a problem may exist with the units themselves, rest assured, Line 6 will handle it! The Warranty of the G10 is one year. And Line 6's Customer and Product support is exceptional. -
I would open the guitar's jack plate to rotate the interior nut one full revolution, such that the threaded neck of the jack extends outward by one thread width further from the guitar. This may be just enough to assure that the G10 Transmitter's microswitch will be fully depressed regardless of the 360 position of how the G10 may sit in the jack. If necessary, go two threads width of extension from the body. Personally, I would not go the route of taping the microswitch down, as I would be concerned over time with any accumulation of adhesive, from repeatedly doing so, even from high quality Gaffers Tape.

Only the Headphone Out is Stereo 1/4" TRS Audio.

Also useful are extra large women's makeup brushes. Some have very soft bristles and are great for keeping electronic stuff clean. A Swiffer sheet/cleaning wand also does the job. And, a microfiber cloth is also handy to have in gear bags, guitar cases, etc., both for a quick wipe down, and they can provide some cushioning for the gear.

Glad you got it working for you! And, that you posted back your findings for others to learn.

The current firmware (version 1.04) has no ability to lengthen nor disable the Sleep Mode feature. Line 6 has not commented whether any such feature will be added to future firmware. For the time being, there are only two things that come to mind.... One is to lightly tap, thump or palm mute one or more strings every 3 minutes, or so, to send a brief low signal to prevent the G10 from entering Sleep Mode after 4 minutes. If this cannot be accomplished without it being heard during the service then it won't accomplish the intended result of being inaudible, unless you can enlist the assistance of the FOH soundman to mute/unmute your FOH channel. Another thought, is that you could partially unplug the G10 transmitter from your guitar's jack without removing it fully. This would release pressure from the microswitch at the base of the transmitter's 1/4" plug, effectively turning off the transmitter. The base would resume pulsing. A few seconds before you need to resume playing, reseat the transmitter fully into your guitar. The Transmitter will turn on, and the base will lock to the same signal channel it was previously using with the transmitter. There should not be any audible pop, click, nor thump. The only problem with this technique would be your having to remember to reseat the transmitter before resuming playing, and making sure the transmitter did not fall out when you retracted it slightly.

Any there any Windows Cubase AI Users following this thread who might care to comment about how they like it? I'm considering using it to VST Host Helix Native. I'm entitled to a free download of Cubase AI (associated with Yamaha gear), so it will be effectively a free VST Host (if it doesn't become a gateway DAW to upgrade to a higher Cubase version). :) Are there others I should consider instead?

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since I posted the Helix's Tuner Opinion Poll to TGP. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/helixs-tuner-how-do-you-feel-about-its-stability.1825918/ In six days the Thread accumulated: 907 Views, 39 Replies, and 86 Votes. The 86 Votes are split 60/40 in favor of "Helix's Tuner Stability is Steady Enough for Me!" It will be intersting to see if the balance persists during the weeks to come....
