about the only thing I can think of is trying a different USB cable, make sure it is fairly short (2m or under). you could try updating BIOS on PC and re-installing/updating motherboard chipset drivers just to rule anything out PC side. Other than that might need to contact line 6. You may be able to take it to a decent music shop that deals with stuff like this - most guys I know around music shops love playing with gear and love a challenge.. though sometimes they arent the "techiest" bunch
  2. Hi, 1. go to https://line6.com/software/index.html 2. click the drop down box to M13 3. where it says "Firmware Update Instructions: After you download the v2.04 Flash Memory file to your computer, please click here for step by step instructions on how to properly update your M13 to version 2.04. (instructions are the same as for v2.00)" the click on the word "here" to download the instructions. This link actually did not work for me, so might be a good idea to create a support ticket to get them to fix it. nonetheless, 4 manuals, with update instructions are available at : https://line6.com/support/manuals/m13 with the instructions at the last few pages of the advanced manual 4. I would suggest reading through everything first, and going through all the documentation just to be familiar with what you are about to do. Generally it is an easy thing : download the update file/s, connect your device, put it in update mode if you need to, start the update on the PC/mac. have a go, 99% cases work out fine. If you have trouble, it generally is not a huge deal, and you can come back here with specific questions/issues and get help. so far you have done better than most in coming to the forum before you start for advice! :-) It looks like the update is done over MIDI, so all you need is a midi interface to your mac. BTW the other manuals are pretty good explaing everything about your effects and using it. good luck!

try starting again, but this time right-clicking the installer and choose "run as administrator" sometimes win10 errors out with no explanation, and this works. make sure before you start update you have fully rebooted system, and you have closed all other programs down. I even go so far as to right-click items in systray and choose "exit" such as steam, dropbox etc.
  4. what version of win10 are you running? you right-click the windows start button and can type "winver" in the run box for answer it should be something like "OS Build 15063.966" also, is your bios up to date? I do IT in a school and work with around 500 computers/tablets consisting of 15 or so different models of laptops / PC models. I have found many vendors have made improvements to BIOS for win10. If I was doing it, workflow before troubleshooting further would be: 1. update PC BIOS. 2. update windows to v1709 latest build (will show with winver "OS Build 16299.371") 3. update audio drivers 4. look for any updates/patches for audio software 5. look for updates / firmware updates to audio hardware if your audio hardware supports it, you could try installing a virtual machine with ONLY your audio recording setup and trimming out everything else. Once you get it working perfectly, snapshot it so you never lose the working setup.
  5. I have owned an Amplifi75 for around 2 months now. It did not work out of the box and I have gone through the long chain of support.. line6->Yamaha->repair centre->supplier-Yamaha again->repair centre. I am wondering if my unit just sat around for to long on the shelf and thats why it doesnt work. I saw this Unit online at around midnight and after a quick look at what it can do, bought it at a decent price. I didnt really realise it was a 2014 product, or I might have done a bit more research in seeing what current products that do similar things were available. I see there is a huge tone sharing section for other products, but it looks like Amplifi uses different system. Not a biggie, but would have been nice to try out tones others have figured out. As I am just a home hobby guitarist, no band, no foresable future of performing, and to date I have been playing when able with an unplugged electric.. (thanks to buying an amp too big to be able to use in any way at home) its probably going to be great for me. Thankfully the repair centre is 20 minutes away so when it is fixed I can update this! just SUUUUUUUCKS waiting 2 months to get stuck into a new Amp :-) I advise if you buy one, preferably get it out of the box in the shop and try it if buying in person, and update firmware straight away and look for any issues so you can resolve them promptly. I am not sure if Line6 call this legacy yet, but would think it is getting close.
  6. when I used to do electronic repair, it was things like: power amp chip blown transistor/s blown bad solder joints (rarer) bad capacitors - usually though it would turn on but give varying degrees of bad behaviour, or you could visually see bulging caps get a strong light and magnifying glass and go over the board carefully. maybe full compass has a board for sale.
  7. it will be a circuit board problem. depending on how much you paid, I doubt it is worth fixing as you can pick up a working used one for between $65 and $90.. and circuit boards are generally around $90. Best bet is to find an electronics tech that will do it for real cheap, as I think this is your only real option. Yes it sucks, but I guess you had a warning with potential problem. :-( are you in Australia?
  8. No problem, if your "list" is anything like mine, there are much, much more pressing issues to deal with :-) After weeks of trying to get word from Line6 /Yamaha/retailer on how to get my Amplifi75 working or replaced, I finally got it dropped of to a repair guy near me. I do have an image to look at.. same issue, no time right now!
  9. Hi Don, might be best to run through your setup, how you are trying to go about it and what steps you have tried and maybe we can spot an issue or be able to know what you are missing. from the manual it looks simple enough, but it is also a possibility somethings wrong somewhere. you dont suspect anything wrong with the amp? also all firmware up to date? cheers Brian
  10. To create a disk image, there are a variety of different ways. I will take it from the top (pun intended!) assuming varying levels of experience mucking about with files/disks/images/OS's etc. It is a very easy process. you can use dd in Linux, but I choose the DMDE. http://dmde.com/download.html I bought the pro version to use with data recovery but the free version will allow you to do everything just fine. I am going to go through it verbosely, but it is easier than it looks. steps: insert microsd in whatever reader you need to in your PC. take disk image put card back in analyse image It must be said that opening your amplifi and removing MicroSD card may void your warranty. It is debatable with this unit if it is user serviceable or not, as most musicians I know extensively get down and dirty with their gear, and removing a microSD is not very technically challenging. Also, Amps get hot, and I am not sure how the Amplifi is on the mainboard, so it may not be the best idea to put hot glue when you install card back in. it might pay to find some heat resistant silicon or look in an electronics shop for a suitable product to reglue it. 1. Install DMDE or use portable version, insert card, then open DMDE. you are presented with a list of Disks in your PC. 2. Double-click your card. It will scan for partitions. 3. It will look something like this (I am not doing an Amplifi MicroSD in this example, but a USB drive. It should be similar) It shows the disk, and any partitions. 4. right click the disk and choose to clone it. 5. for destination choose "file" 6. Choose a filename. I use a .img extension to denote disk image. .bin is fine as well. call it something useful in case you are going to have multiple images. You might want to add the date, if unit working or not, or version of firmware etc. 7. If all OK, click Yes 8. creating... shouldnt take too long 9. finished, the result is a disk image of the card. If partitions are ok, or screwed up, you still have a complete copy of the card. 10. now you can analyse the disk image to your hearts content. tolls like HxD (Hex editor) will allow you to scroll through looking for clues. Other more advanced tools like binwalk can be used to extract files from embedded filesystems, identify files, and gather quite a bit of info on what you have. IF it is a semi-standard sort of system/storage. At the very least you will get some idea if the MicroSD card is important or not. you can use similar steps to clone a card to another card as well by inserting in your PC a second card and instead of cloning to a file, clone to the 2nd card. you need to make sure specs are the same as memory cards may be slightly different sizes even if both say 2GB for example.
  11. thanks for the offer. the data must have some structure. it is either important to the unit starting and working properly, or it is not.. that needs to be determined. If it is the "OS" of the unit, it will be an embedded filesystem or such, which I have analysed many types before. It may just hold settings. In your case, it seems more like an electronics problem. I wonder if the problems we see here are just a very small amount of units, and thousands are sold that are fine.. it would be good to know how many they have sold.. not useful in our case but just out of interest.
  12. is it still in warranty? have you tried firmware updates, even if on the current one? It may take away an issue. depending on where you are, you can buy boards from a place called full compass, though they apparently dont ship outside US. might be an option to just try replacing boards... doesnt help me in Australia.! would I be able to get a copy of the sd card image? I want to do some analysis on it, and be good to have a problematic one, plus a good one to see if I can identify where the problems lie. If I ever get my faulty brand new unit replaced or fixed(been talking to them for weeks and nothing yet!) I could send you a good image and see if it helps
  13. Hi, This may help: https://github.com/codeape2/jam2wav cheers, Brian
  14. Hi Billy, I think that Amp isn't made anymore, and you need to scroll down to the bottom of the Line 6 product page and click "legacy products" or just go here https://line6.com/legacy/ Go down and you can click on a Spider II and find manuals. If you don't see your unit, post a pic of it plus a pic of the model sticker and should be able to get some more info. On the last page of the (2 page!)manual for spider II 30, there is a Pilots Log. She can mark in the knob positions when there is a tone she likes for easier recollection later. Also if you click on "Download Spider II Settings " there are some examples of knob settings for tones. Sounds like she has a great start with gear! Good Luck, I hope she does you proud! cheers Brian

    Parts in AU

Anyone know where we can by spares in AU, looks like Full Compass that I found lists parts dont ship overseas. looking for a mainboard for Amplifi 75 that has MicroSD card in it. Thanks!
  16. What we need is for the hardware to transmogrify into looking and feeling like the real thing as well.
  17. use a hobby knife and cut the glue at the join of the connector/socket. You only need to be able to separate connector from socket, not remove all the glue. do it slowly, carefully and while you are positioned comfortably and not awkwardly. be extremely careful not to bang the board against anything or slip with the knife etc. If you plan on reapplying glue, then I would use silicon. I doubt it would be actual hot glue as I am sure the amp would get hot and melt it if it was. I have made that mistake on electronics before! good luck!
  18. Great, glad you got it going! Slightly jealous having a 75 new from box and not working.. Be interested to know what you think of it when you get some playing in.
  19. Thanks, I went the route of support. This one is a bit more than temperamental, it just doesn't work at all. the steps are easy enough, but unit doesn't respond to anything, plugged in to guitar, USB, or any button push. After going through the Line6 support and some basic troubleshooting, tech agreed it was faulty. I was told by Line6 to get in touch with AU distributor (Yamaha). They in turn pointed me to a local repair centre. The repair centre told me that in AU, if a product is faulty out of the box, it should be replaced or repaired to be as new, through the place of purchase. So I get in touch with them and now they are waiting for Line6 to respond as to what to do. I can see it is going to be a long time before I can get to play with it.... I hope it is worth it. If there was another product similar price, that did the same thing ... Amp and modelling, I would consider changing. I cant see anything as simple or arguably that does what this seems to do as well. I will keep updating so others know what happens in the same situation. Have to say Line 6 and Yamaha both responded fairly quick. I was a bit disappointed in the support email that went through the various steps.. pretty much just replayed what was in the manual.. and my email went through explicitly that I had tried all, and also great detail of issue. The support has to go through it, I understand, but the answer didn't acknowledge anything in the email and started with "I am sorry you are having trouble updating the firmware" . I would still call the support pretty good, as they escalated quickly after the turn-it-off-and-back-on-again stage. Once it is out of warranty I may do some work on saving firmware and working out how to restore a bricked unit. It has a MicroSD card in it but I would think firmware lies on a different chip. There seems plenty of opportunity, JTAG
  20. So inside the Amplifi 75 there is a MicroSD Card. It is held in there with a blob of glue. @Ilya.. do you know what is on that card? is it the OS? I asked Line6 in my support ticket but they ignored the question. If these devices are starting to become obsolete / legacy, it may be time for some community based resources to bring them back to life.
  21. Did you get anywhere with this? My Amplifi 75 was like this out of the box. Line6 run through basic troubleshooting but I couldnt actually get anywhere as never do Lights flash, they are just solid. They advised me to contact Australian distributor.. 800KM away :-( So 4 weeks struggling to get time to use it, finally do and another week to find that out of the box it is dead. guessing I will be shipping it somewhere at my expense :-( on the upside, it is well and truly IN warranty!
  22. interesting.. if the OS is contained on an SD Card (My Brand new AMPLIFI 75 doesnt work at all) then I might have a simple fix. I can almost bet that even if it were that simple, we would be sent to a repair centre and not be allowed to make any fixes at this level though..
  23. Hi, I bought a new Amlifi 75. Just opened the box and it seems to not work. tried 2 different PCs. both win 10 though, but I dont think that is the Issue. symptoms: - all 4 tone lights are on, BT light is on (dim though as far as I can tell). - when I press BT button it does not flash, or change like manual says. - when I plug in USB cable (tried 2 different ones that work on my printer fine) PC does not make any indication that something has been plugged in. - when I installed drivers, the software did not seem to know Amplifi was plugged in after the prompt to do so. - forums saying to start in firmware update mode, hold tone and Tap button while turning on. this doesnt seem to do anything, all tone lights are just on. - forums say to factory reset, hold master volume and tone button while booting. This seems to have no effect. - My android phone does not detect a BT device beaconing - with guitar in, no sound from AMP I have downloaded updater, but it does not detect anything. I am an IT manager and been in IT for years, had extensive experience with different devices, firmware updating etc. Anyone have any idea please? Thanks! Brian
