  1. It's likely to also be the interaction between him, guitar and amp at high volume - a real amp in the room thing. I had a play with a 2 x amp arrangement using the deluxe vib, and the princess running drive and master flat out, taking some tops off, and bumping the bias up a little - ran that into a pair of DT25s, with an alt path to a dual cab arrangement of the 2x12 matchless H30 and the 2x12 Interstate cabs into monitors. Set the DT25s to about 1/4 master and cranked my monitors - the alt path was loud but didn't interact in the same way as the DT25 path and which was a bit more sensitive to picking touch and guitar volume. They remained clean until the guitar was fully opened up, and I hit hard, and they sustain a lot more than the monitors - but it's pretty loud. I found this illuminating https://happybluesman.com/how-sound-derek-trucks/ Even the Alessandro AZZ amp that Trucks currently plays is very similar to a Fender Super Reverb; it is just larger and more powerful. This gives the amp more headroom, which means that Trucks can crank it without the amp breaking up or distorting. This actually sets him aside from a lot of other blues guitarists, most of whom seek out amps that break up and overdrive at lower volumes. The main difference between these guitarists and Trucks, is that Trucks predominantly plays with a clean sound. And it is really this which dictates his choice of amp. He requires a certain volume and power to cut through the mix (there are 2 drummers and a horn section in The Tedeschi Trucks Band!) and he wants to be heard without his sound distorting.
  2. The thing that changed (for the patch) is you're on the second snapshot. Saving the patch now would result in it being recalled with snapshot 2 active. Unless you actually change a parameter you want to save, don't (save). I've caught myself more than once modifying a patch and then saving on the 'wrong' snapshot - easy to fix but a trap.
  3. I'm the same - variax with Helix via VDI exclusively with per patch model and tuning changes (sometimes within patches) and if I hadn't seen your post I wouldn't know there was a bug - so that probably answers whether its a real problem.
  4. There's a lot to be said for keeping it simple. As you say adding more options makes it more difficult to decide on things, and leads to more playing. I have a pair of PC+ and have had for a few years. I got them as I found each of them second hand at a very good price that made getting the + worth it. I play covers and use a song by song approach to patch and have played with the modeled speakers in the PC+s a bit, but found myself returning to using them as FRFR for ease of set-up and consistency. It also means I can tune patches in headphones or on my studio monitors and know how they will translate to the PC+ (only though lots of experience). Using the speaker models or IRs in the PC+ would mean I need to run them at volume to tune patches - at least until I understood how they translate. So, unless you want L6 Link to save digital to analog conversion, and/or the additional features like USB connection then you may be best sticking with what you have - that said I love using L6 Link for ease of setup.
  5. https://tascam.com/us/product/us-2x2/top https://www.presonus.com/products/Eris-E5-XT About half way down each page is a photo of the items clearly showing TRS outputs from the Tascam, and TRS and XLR inputs for the Presonus monitors. The male connectors on the front of the Tascam are inputs. You will need either 2 TRS to TRS cables or 2 TRS to male XLR cables. https://www.cablechick.com.au/cables/3m-avencore-platinum-xlr-to-14quot-cable-male-to-male.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAifz-BRDjARIsAEElyGLQ4Rw64k2Mei9YRowt8ZT0eZ-4IBwUt6VXCsRkrTVMK-kOFJItYTkaAsjGEALw_wcB https://www.cablechick.com.au/cables/premium-3m-braided-65mm-stereo-audio-cable-14quot-stereo-lead.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAifz-BRDjARIsAEElyGKh-Nvh1R7mQhosoc3ht8iooshcOkgn1MHXZTr0YXdAhIXYJyQGsGIaAninEALw_wcB You could also connect the Helix direct to the monitors with either of these cables, and/or the Helix direct to your computer with USB, and/or to the tascam with the same or normal XLRs.
  6. Sorry Martin - I should have added a sarcasm tag - I think I put together the most common list of ailments I see on the forum, the answers to all are easily found, and which are repeatedly provided by members much more patient and generous than I am, such as yourself.
  7. I'm guessing so, given you can control the reverb mix on the DT from over the L6 Link - but I had to ask. Occasionally, when I can't work it out from playing with the UI - or I don't have the gear in front of me. Seems a reasonable starting place to me.... btw I upgraded to fw 3.01 by downloading it using HX Edit 2.x and now can't see all the new features, I think my Helix is bricked, I used to have snapshots but now can't see them, my global EQ has disappeared, and my patches are rebuilding since the upgrade - is that normal?, oh and I have some great ideas to tell you Line 6 folk about that really should have been there from day one and I'm really pissed that they're not there!!! Can anyone in this forum help?
  8. Hi Longtime Helix and PC+ user and needing assistance (hi waymda). Please forgive me as my sin is not reading the manual, and then when I did thinking I missed something. The latest version (v3.0 Rev E) includes the following Powercab Plus users can also utilize the IR and Reverb options available on the Powercab, thereby alleviating the need to add IR or Reverb blocks within their Helix presets. Say what? Reverb blocks in the PC+?????? Not that I can see this, but did anyone else notice this? Is it a portent of things to come? dw PS. Full disclosure I was only looking at the new manual to better understand DT integration to see if its time to play in that space again, but the above may see my pair of DT25s unloved again.
  9. Unlikely, with that opening post. A tiny amount of research would answer the below. Time to stop feeding.

  11. I can't think of a good reason
  12. You might want to look at Idea Scale and vote for the things that align with this. Idea Scale is used by Line 6 to help understand user feature demand. I searched with the term Studio and found heaps. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/ideas/search?templateId=0&query=studio
  13. So yep that's running super hot to the extent the input gain on my mixer is clipping. The attached uses channel volume on the amp model to hit around -3db - with no compression. Whilst the compressor is off, turning it on would add some more gain but I've adjusted the mix to something more to my liking - I rarely use 100% compression. That's the only change - so not sure why you'd be adding 32.5db gain with a compressor which is squishing the life out it which pushing everything into the red. mic scout2.hlx
  14. Thanks @qwerty42 and @CraigGT - I really hadn't fully thought that through, and it possibly explains why I'd never perceived it to be a problem before reading the post I wonder if the explanation "it sounds different because it is different" answers the OPs concerns?

    Powercab set up.

No tricks getting 2 to be loud that I know of, I have them set the same - I just need to remember to use the right connection so I get signal. A difference from my set-up to Wondo's is I use the PC+ in FRFR mode. I remembered seeing the youtube video below some time ago in which he states he uses one cab with speaker sim with a loud band - I think he says he has the PC+ turned up to about 3/4 but haven't gone back to check. Might be worth watching.
  16. Having finally realised the need/desirability of ensuring time/phase alignment in dual amp/cab setups (so slow) - can any one advise how to determine the delay required? The comment below the video about this is unanswered and any advice welcome. "Wondering about the phase shift. The 10 ms delay: Did you just "trial and error" or is it just a good common solution (and value) when you run into this issue? Thanks for another great video full of good insights. And yes - I am a sucker for Sultans as well :-)"

    Powercab set up.

Hi Wondo - not with my PC+ atm (I use 2 as you do) but one thing I remember is changing the input gain to 0db. I think it was -18(?) as default which made them not as loud as I wanted. I run them with the Helix knob ignored (global settings) and the LED hits red occasionally with no audible clipping, and at half volume on the PC+ they are plenty loud enough for a 3 piece, if I turn them up beyond 1 o'clock the guys complain. No other changes to the PC+ system settings.
  18. I'm pretty sure that's what is happening - I found a post from 2018 that mentions the need to realign phase alignment when using different cab/mic/distance combinations. I don't know why, but I thought/assumed (and you know what happens when you do that) that the L/R signal from the Helix would be phase aligned.
  19. Did some testing using: a split A/B path even split WhoWatt amp and Cab default settings Join block default When the B Polarity is inverted 0 output gain - so phase aligned When either mic distance from cab or different mic used - varies amounts of output gain. So I can only conclude that phase alignment is affected by mic choice and mic distance - although more accurately it is probably time alignment resulting in phase misalignment. I don't know if this has always been the case, but have never noticed before (on V3.0 now). I also tested with separate amp and dual block approach in my DAW and got the same result when inverting one of the tracks (recorded each separately).
  20. Just tested simple pitch and the poly models via USB into DAW and still can't reproduce - ie works as expected.
  21. I was intrigued so tested this, but can't reproduce on my Helix. I tried variax, variax mags, modelled variax through guitar in and mags through guitar in, simple pitch and poly capo and the mix worked as expected across all. Existing patch and new patch. All output tested using the XLRs.
  22. 1. Yes - and have run up to four amps for very specific blended sounds - at all times using separate amp and cab setups - typically streaming 2 amps into a dual cab block panned hard left and right before the block 2. No never - the biggest 'issue' I've had is balancing the output of individual amps which is just down to channel volume 3. It depends on what I'm doing but I use the litigator a lot - sometime 2 of them with different settings, JC120, Vox, Plexi, The boogies, Baddonk, the twin models, the princess (now its available) - I tend to try lots of amps in combo to find the thing I'm looking for and may blend them differently in snapshots and/or push them differently at different point - not lots of help I know, but I work across a very wide range of styles
