  1. I haven't ordered these from them but I have plenty of other cables that were all very high quality at reasonable prices. While these are for Line 6 products, I can't tell if the connectors are higher strength than regular. I suggest you ask them direct for recommendations once they reply to you. They build for many major touring acts and industrial applications too so I am sure they have a solution that can work for you... let us know how it works out!
  2. I have had the best service and highly recommend these guys for your cable needs. They make top quality gear at reasonable prices and build to order. http://best-tronics.com/guitar-cable/ethernet/tactical.aspx PS. I have absolutely no relations or business interest with them, they just do the job.

  4. This link pretty much addresses the same question for you... http://line6.com/support/topic/604-hd500-midi-controllered-need-help/

    Opinions...

not sure how to describe it but it was a little thin to my ears through my Infinity Reference speakers. I am not a bass player so can't really tell you how to get there but probably within the DAW, not the POD. How did you do the drums??

very nice work bro... I would have liked the bass parts to be a little fatter but really nice work...
  7. $575??? wow, just checked yer sale link... Bite the bullet and dig into it. Read the manual and watch some videos. I guarantee you will find tones you didn't think possible from this amp. Even with your pedals, it will perform well. Downoad one of the DT Edit programs and really try out the various amp models. You can load 8 different models between the A and B channels and the 4 voicings... I hate to see you take a beating on this when you haven't really given it a chance...
  8. with a standard 4 cable method and no FX loop in your M13 the signal goes straight through the M13 and into the FX return of the DT, bypassing the entire preamp section of the DT. So unless the reverb is after the DT's FX loop, it won't work because it has no signal to work on! You must put an FX loop in your M13 for it to work properly with a 4 cable method. A POD is a little different because it has amp sims and you can bypass the DT preamp no problem. However, if you do, the DT reverb will still have no effect.
  9. if I understand you right, with the 4 cable method you are using this is a normal operation. By turning the M13 "off" you are bypassing the POD's FX loop so no signal is going into the front of the Mesa, just straight into the FX return. You will need to have a patch with a FX loop at all times with the M13.

Try plugging into the PWR IN jack to bypass the Fender preamp and go straight to the power amp. This lets you use the full amp models and all the effects in the POD without any coloring from the Fender. Guitar > POD > Left 1/4 Out > Fender PWR IN. Set POD output to Studio Direct, use full amp models with cab and mic, set the switch by the Expression Pedal to Line and turn the POD Master up slowly as this should now be your overall volume control. If there is still no sound, set the Fender to Normal channel and turn Volume up full with POD Master off and again, slowly turn POD Master up. If STILL nothing, plug POD output into the Fender input 1, select Normal channel, Normal Volume down, all tone knobs centered, POD settings the same as above except POD Master full up. Now slowly increase Fender Normal volume to desired level. As before, do everything with the POD and leave the Fender as flat as possible just for amplification. The preferred method is generally into the power amp direct but whatever ends up working best for you is what counts! BTW, with a solid state amp like this, you gain nothing by using the 4 cable method. Generally that is only for people using quality tube amps that want to utilize the tube preamp instead of the POD modeled preamp.
  11. Apparently I have reached my quota of negative comments for the day or I would have voted the above rant down. Can we just stick to guitar/amp/music issues PLEASE? I get enough political stuff everywhere else...
  12. that is a great question and I am not qualified to answer it in detail, but here is how I see it. A tube is a variable output electrical device with two inputs: the steady high voltage controlled by the Amp Master and the modulated low voltage signal supplied from the preamp (POD Master). The modulated low voltage signal varies the output of the tube as it is applied to the high voltage from the amp. So you have two options to reach the same output level: 1. A strong high voltage signal with small modulation applied (amp master up, pod master down). 2. A weak high voltage signal with large modulation applied (amp master down, pod master up) If I understand things right, you get better headroom, hence more touch response and dynamics with 1. I don't necessarily think the tubes are being driven harder, more that they have more potential to be driven with the amp master up. Better transient response and better tone. At least this upgrade gives us the option to play with it and so far to my ears it seems better. :)
  13. I agree that the original "Dream Rig" was Variax, POD HD, DT but I suspect that can easily be expanded to JTV, POD HD, LT2/LT3. Simply because now you can integrate and optimize the entire system to support all the various electric and acoustic models in the JTV and even utilize your dual amp/cab patches too...
  14. No. HD Edit does everything you need to build your patches including Deep Editing Parameters and DT settings (if you use one). It is far easier to use, IMO, and more importantly, you can backup your patches, set lists and bundles. Personally, I hate trying to work that little screen...
  15. I guess I see it a little bit differently. Of course I am always happy to get updates, new features, improved workflow, etc. but I knew what I was buying and would have been quite happy if they had never updated anything. I might still have been looking for othere options but I would not have expected it as a requirement for continued business. I agree that it is an awesome bonus to essentially have a new piece of gear to play with and I hope they keep it up. However, if they stop I will still have more guitar processing power at my command than almost any other piece of gear can give me at a much better price point. What I really like is their vision of a completely integrated musical SYSTEM. They are way ahead of the curve in my opinion by offering the Variax, the DT's and now the Soundscapes as a complete system, able to interconnect and just work together in ways that make a musician's life easier. Is it all perfect? Of course not. Is there anything else even remotely comparable as a system, let alone near their price point? No. I still need a JTV and maybe a Lt2 to complete my setup but then to be able to just take 3 pieces literally anywhere and set up in minutes with 1 or two cables and have the same range of tonal options with minor dial in is amazing. Nobody else does that. So I can focus on the POD updates and wish there was more company support but I prefer to recognize all the other ways they support me through new and innovative gear and capabilities that take me to the next level. :)
  16. Just a reminder to everyone that with any Firmware update you need to recalibrate your expression pedal. Refer to instructions in the POD HD500 Pilot's Handbook, pg 16.
  17. Maybe I am missing something. If I understand the original question, you want to feed the dry guitar signal previously recorded from your DAW through the POD to your amp using the POD to provide an Amp level signal vice the line level from the DAW and gain impedance mathcing along the way. Is that right? If so, I don't see why you can't do that. Is that what you guys answering are saying can't be done? It seems like you are addressing using the POD itself to reamp the dry signal and I can see where it would be difficult to feed the signal to the POD and at the same time record it back over USB since the POD would now be the audio interface. What about saving the dry signal as an audio file and playing it back from another device through the POD for reamping and recording? Maybe quality degradation issues? The real question to me is if there is a way to record a dry signal at the same time as your processed signal with the POD. Maybe put an FX loop at the start of your chain and feed that to an extermal recorder or another DAW.
  18. I am always willing to help those that I can on this forum. However, after reading your post I was more than a little ticked off. You started out with how you are used to "nice tube amps" and your pedals and everything is great but you spent a whole hour with the POD and can't get it to work perfectly. Now you want us to drop everything and hold your hands getting started. Guess what? We all spent a lot of time reading, researching and playing with our gear to figure our how to make it work. It didn't come with a tone Genie attached. Hence, my comment to sell it and move on. If you are willing to put in the time we are willing to help. If not, feel free to keep using those nice tube amps and pedals. Stick around, chill out, have fun and play... it gets better... ;)
  19. wow, tough setup... You could definitely use a Line 6 amp in this setup, a DT 25 or 50 would work especially since there is an XLR feed to the iso box. You can use that for the L6 link which completely integrates your POD and the DT amp. You would not need any other cabling to the amp to take full advantage of everything the POD and the DT can do together. Check it out... For your current setup, you need to know that the XLR outs do not sum to mono so you are only getting one side of the signal to your Mesa. You need to go in to each patch and use the mixer to pan both sides hard left and use the left XLR out. Try building your patches with the mixer as the last thing in the chain or else adding a stereo FX block after it will split the signal again. You should try to keep the Mesa as clean as possible and then you can use the POD for all your tonal changes, You should be ok with that and you can still follow the suggestions I gave earlier. Play with different distortions to see which ones work best for your setup. Remember,if you use amp modeling, use a noise gate. And with just stomps in to the front of your amp, you should really pay attention to getting them in the right order within the patch. Hope this helps! Edit: just saw the advice about POD straight to the PA and have to agree, probably the best overall solution. And make them give you two feeds to go stereo!
  20. no disrespect but the PRE models do not exclude cab and mic modeling, they exclude Power Amp modeling. They still have cab and mic assigned and you will have to turn that off manually if you don't want it. You did not say how you are connected. I assume you are using the 4 cable method as that is the most versatile with your gear. If you are getting a lot of noise with the amp models, make sure you put a noise gate at the beginning of your patch. With the 4 cable method you can switch from using the preamp of your Mesa to the POD pres by making new patches. With a FX loop for the Mesa, without for the POD. You will also be able to play with FX placement before and after the preamp. Generally dynamics, pitch, distortions before and mods, delays, and reverbs after but find what works for you. If you decide not to mess with all this, just run the POD straight into the Mesa FX return and use the POD full amp models. Play with output modes to see what you like best. As for cabs, if you really like your cab you can keep them turned off in the POD. They do offer another level of tone shaping though. Don't forget you can use the cab DEP to modify Low Cut, Resonance, Thump etc and even mic choice. I like to start with just the amp, no cab or FX and play with the settings tillI I find what I like and then try out other cab/mic combinations. There are so many ways to do this, just have fun and trust your ears...
  21. well I applied the update with no issues on my 500. So now the master volume knob on the 500 works with my DT. Only it doesn't match the master on the DT, it only regulates the POD output level. Prior to the update the POD output stayed at 100% and the only way to lower volume was with the amp channel volume or the DT Master. Now we can crank the DT master for the power section tubes without blowing the windows out by just lowering the POD master instead of playing with the amp channel. I tried it tonight and it seems to be the case. It is going to take a lot more play time to work with but essentially I should never have to use LVM again. And as for anything else, I don't give a crap. I see tons of very high priced analog pedals that only do one or two things and will NEVER be updated, changed, factory reset, and nobody bitches about it. When you buy a new computer you don't expect the manufacturer to give you new features and capabilities for free. Microsoft doesn't give you a new OS for free (usually). My car company doesn't call me up with free upgrades for the hell of it. Even if Line 6 did give new amps and stuff, there would still be complainers that it wasn't enough or just what they wanted. As for me, thanks guys, good job. :D
  22. While EQ can definitely help when needed, I have found the Cab DEP settings really helpful to eliminate boominess without haveing to take up an FX block or worry about gain staging. Try setting the Low Cut to 120-140 and see how that works. Res Level and Thump are helpful too but try not to stray too far from 50 in either direction. I know some people use EQ all over the place in their patches but I find it unnecessary if you tweak your gear like it was the real thing, not just software. I have never seen a pedal board with 4 or 5 EQ's in it...
  23. the 12ax7 is NOT in the preamp, it is the phase inverter for the power amp and is almost certainly not the problem. Try leegoodrick's idea with guitar into FX return and see what happens. If it is still weak output, it is in the power amp, probably a power tube. If that sounds OK then go to the amp input and try again. Cycle through both channels A and B and all 4 topologies for each channel. Do those things and let us know what happens.
