POD sees the active FX block as part of the signal chain and with mix at 100 will send the entire signal "out" to some expected gear for processing and return. If you have nothing connected, there is no return signal to send to the POD output. If mix is less than 100, that part of the signal bypasses the FX block and continues down the signal chain so you hear that part. Some folk use the FX block for a signal boost by using a patch cord to connect the send and return and adding gain to the return. Others feel this can add noise to your signal. Hope this clears it up. If you don't need it, don't put it in your chain. ;)

If using the XLR outs, yes use both to get left and right feeds. If using the 1/4 outs you can just use the left which will sum both sides to mono since you are only using one speaker. Probably your best bet. Save the XLR to feed FOH if necessary. Set it to Line for both XLR and 1/4 and be sure to set your POD 1/4 out to Line on the switch next to the expression pedal. These look damn good for the price, let us know how they perform!

Try downloading the Editor for the gear you want to emulate, in this case the X3. Run it off-line and load the X3 patch and then duplicate the settings in the HD Edit. It may not be exact but it should get you in the ball park for final tweaking...

Power Amp And Cab Live - Are You Using Pre Or Full Models?
radatats replied to NinoScholz's topic in POD HD
So this is an area i have struggled with too. I have an older 300 which I love and can feed either a 2X12 cab wired in stereo with Eminence speakers or a pair of Peavey PA speakers. I use the full amp models in Studio Direct in order to get the modeling of both the preamp and power amp section of the amp I am choosing in the POD (IMHO). The 300 does have some slight coloration and the reactance mimics tube compression to a degree but it will never replace the modeled characteristics of the power section in the POD. It is not a guitar amp power section so I do not try to run Stack or Combo outputs to it, they sound like crap to me except going to my DT 25. I do like to change the cab sims though. Going to the PA (FR) speakers I always use a cab sim though I may experiment with different cabs and mics for slight tonal variations. Going to the guitar cab I usually use no cab sim as the cabs own real world action is great. I don't want to add another simulation of a cab's performance on top of the actual performance of my cab. I can use EQ to change the tone if I want or need. I also run the stereo signal through an ADC equalizer before the 300 for global EQ when necessary. I find that more effective and easier to dial in than taking up an extra block in my patches and it works across all my banks wherever I am. I also have the DT25HD and I run it into either one or two of my 2X12 cabs. I connect with the L6 link. For my ears I much prefer the preamp models with no cab selected. The full amp models and even the cab settings change the tone enough that I begin to hear the dreaded fizz. I don't get that with the pre's and no cab. The tone is a little fatter and a little less presence but I can EQ if I need it. I really like the tone of my cabs anyways. If I had a combo it might be different since Line 6 designed it to use the cab sims and when you use the DT without a POD, there is cab simulation by default. Since you are using a 4X12 guitar cab, it will not act like a FR cab. It has it's own color, feel, reactance, whatever... You may want to see what your tones are like with out the POD cab sim. Let your own cab do the work. Take some time to build set lists with various combinations, full, pre, cab, no cab etc... with no other effects and just listen to them and see what you like as you switch back and forth. Even the guitar you use makes a difference. It's your gear and ears and no matter what we think about ours, you have to find what works for you! Most of all have fun doing it... :) -
Preamp Or Amp Setting When Using Pod Hd And Dt25/50
radatats replied to benbutterworth's topic in DT50 / DT25
As others have said, there is more to consider than just pre or full. It depends on how you are connecting and even whether you have a combo or a head and your own cabs. While there are no rules and you should try all settings to see what you like, I have found my preferences. I have the DT25HD and I run it into either one or two 2X12 cabs. If I had a combo it might be different since Line 6 designed it to use the cab sims. I do like the full amp models through the PA and I could feed the full amp model in Studio Direct to the DT FX return to just use the tube section but I have been happy so far with the L6 link. I did not like the 4 cable method with the DT, too much hassle for no benefit. Take some time to build set lists with various combinations, full, pre, cab, no cab etc... with no other effects and just listen to them and see what you like as you switch back and forth. Don't forget that patches you build in Studio Direct with headset or PA will sound totally different in DT with L6 link because the POD will switch to Stack or Combo and there is nothing you can do about it. You will probably have to build your own patches for the DT. -
hurghanico sure plays a mean pinball... very nice... I also have had good results with this preamp and my DT25HD and 2X12 with no cab sim. Sounds good alone and then for some bite use the tube drive or for more heavy use the Line6 distortion. Without the DT it probably won't sound so good through headphones or PA...

From the old forums, great post about mounting HD500 in a hard case from Rondo... full instructions, too bad the pics aren't there anymore... http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/84199 http://www.rondomusic.com/pdc410dmsbk.html http://www.rondomusic.com/pdc410emsbk.html - bigger case, room for another volume pedal or storage.

Yep, my PC with Win7 64bit does not show the POD in the Eject list. I shutdown HD Edit first, then disconnect USB cable with POD still on, never had any issues. I always do the reverse when connecting too. POD on and ready, USB connected, start HD Edit. Similarly POD to DT with L6 link: POD on first and ready, DT power on in standby, wait a minute or two, DT master to zero, DT standby to on, set DT master as desired. To shut down, DT master to zero, DT to standby, wait a minute, DT power off, POD off if necessary. If you are going to use the POD with HD Edit and the DT, go through the steps for connecting USB and HD Edit first, before turning on the DT and turn off the DT before disconnecting USB.

Hd500 With Behringer B210d And Xenyx802 Mixer - Tips
radatats replied to edstar1960's topic in POD HD
why throw the mixer in the middle? are you adding vocals or other instruments to the mix? otherwise I would just go straight to the speakers and not introduce any other possible noise or coloring to the signal. thanks for the tips though! ;) -
check your output settings. make sure you are on Studio Direct. Sounds like you are in Stack Power Amp... I doubt that it is the Guitar in setting, no disrespect to Hurghanico...

I converted it to .h5s for POD HD 500 Edit and while it loads fine, all these deep settings are at 50%. Interesting...

Which Jtv And Why?
radatats replied to radatats's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I will definitely try them all first. I understand the 89 has 5 extra high gain models? Does it still have the alternate tunings too? -
why would anyone make a DT specific patch with dual amps?? also a lot of these patches have weird FX placement (ie. delay and chorus before preamp, compressor after etc)... still a few really good ones in the bunch... Edit - guess someone has 2 DT's? lucky b@stard...
-
I really wish they would put a setting on Customtone to filter for DT specific patches. It's a pain in the butt to have to recreate so many patches just for the DT when we could be sharing patches already set up properly. I did a search using DT and only came up with 49 patches out of 4900... Maybe there just isn't a lot of demand for sharing... Ideas? Edit - The Zip file has all the patches I found and a Set List for loading. DT Downloads.zip

One would think. However, my experience so far is as soon as you turn on the DT, the POD switches from STUDIO DIRECT to STACK POWER AMP and the sound out through the 1/4 and XLR becomes very thin and scratchy, unusable. Very disappointing. They tell me I have to take the XLR out from the DT but that defeats the idea of a separate stereo signal feeding the PA (T21PE's). I am not happy about it and am still trying to find a workable solution.

welcome Don, keep coming... Guitar Port, Spider 210, Floorboard, Flextone II HD, POD HD 500, DT-25 HD, and now considering a JTV... and even an L3T... :D
-
I have POD HD 500 and DT 25 HD. I also tried going 1/4's from POD to PA and L6 link to DT 25. As soon as DT is turned on, POD switches from Studio Direct to Stack Power Amp and tone gets thin and scratchy in PA. I haven't found a solution yet. Others told me that its by design and I need to go DT XLR's to PA. However, I want a dual amp feed to PA with channel A to amp and I can't get that so far. Not too happy about it right now but still playing with it and if I find a solution I will post it up here too.

I tried to download your patch from your site but it is a .txt file... Try uploading your patch to Customtone and post the link here or you can put your patch in a .zip file and post that here.

that sucks balls...
-
Well I am feeling pretty dumb now. That is exactly what it is. I changed the output to Stack Pwr Amp and it sucks balls through the PA. Totally unusable. Studio Direct is awesome. So the moral of the story is the 1/4 outs for me are history in Stack Pwr Amp. I can't even think what I would want to feed them to. I can't imagine that scratchy, distorted mess sounding good through anything. I will have to try the XLR outs.
-
Ok so I just rearranged my studio so I can use all my gear together and was going to A/B my POD direct to my PA vs my DT with a 2X12. My power amp doesn't have XLR so I am connected to the 1/4 outs on the POD. Sounds great, no issues. As soon as I power on my DT 25 with the L6 link, the signal to the PA washes out to a scratchy mush. Turn off the DT back to normal. I thought you were supposed to be able to use all the various outs side by side. I know everything says you can use the XLR outs with the L6 link but is there something different with the 1/4 outs? I can get the XLR to 1/4 pigtails if I need to but I am a little surprised right now...
-
OK, so after being a Line 6 user for years now (Gear port, Spider 210, Flextone II, POD HD 500, DT-25 HD) I am seriously considering the jump to a JTV to complete the rig. I like all 3 models but I kind of want the Floyd rig. What I would like to hear from you users is your thoughts regards the different models. Do they play the same? Necks the same? Models the same? Tone differences? Is it just aesthetics, which one I like the looks of most or are there real playability differences I should consider. Musically I lean towards hard rock, metal, progressive... Thanks for any help in deciding... :P
-
Just a thought, but why are you using the amp modelling in the Flextone? I have one too and just run the POD output in stereo to the Flextone FX return with a stereo plug adapter. Works great and I can just use all the patches I made for the POD with out fiddling with MIDI settings... (you may have to put a dummy jack in the Flextone input too)
-
I hear what you are talking about. Tell us exactly how you recorded your samples (direct, mic'd etc, what amp and speaker setup, what headphones) and maybe post the patch you used for us to try out. I get the same thing on some patches too but I think it can be worked out. It definitely sucks...

I don't believe that is a good idea. The speaker outs are designed to allow you to feed a passive speaker cab, not another amplifier (powered speaker). I doubt that it will hurt the Spider but it won't do your powered speaker any good...
