Well, for one thing different amp models have different parameters, so I'm not sure how having a global setting for such a thing would even be doable. The other thing is that you're limited to 64 controllers for preset, so eating up a chunk of them with a global setting could actually be limiting in the long run. It's really super fast to assign a snapshot controller as it stands. On the Helix itself, you just press and turn the parameter knob. In the editor, it's OPTION-click (Mac) or ALT-click (PC) any Home screen parameter.

The Helix doesn't mirror CC messages like that. The one thing is that the MIDI map for blocks is totally fluid and can change for each preset. There is no default MIDI map, actually. It's dependent on you assigning MIDI CCs to them. Now if you're talking about the MIDI CCs associated with the footswitches themselves, yes, those are set, but, like I said earlier, they don't mirror CC messages back. I've never looked into how the FCB1010 works, but can it send out MIDI CC toggle commands? That seems like what you would want to use if you're controlling the Helix's footswitches. Honestly, it seems to me that your life would be much easier with the Rack and Control setup. It would essentially do all this stuff for you.

G10 - Can you disable or lengthen Sleep Mode entry time?
phil_m replied to Karl_Houseknecht's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
Nope... Do you have another way to mute yourself? I'd probably turn the tuner on the Helix and strum a few chords, or, you know, tune, in the middle of the silent periods. You can also just unplug and plug the G10 back in. It's totally silent when you do that. -
Relay G10 and the high pitched whine. How does the G55 fair?
phil_m replied to sumorabbit's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
Any of the other Line 6 wireless transmitters should be fine, as they all use a standard TS plug. -
Well, the push to reset to default function was set before snapshots even existed. I kind of think that once a company decides on these this type of functionality it's best not to mess with it just for the sake of consistency. Otherwise you get conflicting instructions floating around online when people do Google searches and whatnot, and probably just causes unnecessary confusion.

Registering Podxt live
phil_m replied to geelongcats's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
There were actually two different editors for the XTL - Line 6 Edit and Gearbox. Gearbox is the newer of the two, so I'd start there. -
Registering Podxt live
phil_m replied to geelongcats's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
You don't have to have it registered to use Monkey. You can simply hit cancel when it asks you to register. At this point, registering probably isn't going to do any good for you or Line 6. -
I actually don't think you'd see any significant improvement with any other interface when comparing the mic input, really. I mean if you want to use a specific preamp, which isn't uncommon, you can just plug that into the Helix and bypass its onboard preamp. I think where the Helix is more limited compared to dedicated interfaces is the ability to record and directly monitor a bunch of channels at once.

I haven't measured the latency because I always use direct monitoring with it, as I suspect most people would. As far as the mic preamp, it's the same as the preamps in the StageScape M20d mixer, and it's not noisy at all. I certainly can't complain about it as an interface.

One thing is that when you create a split path, each path is automatically attenuated by 3dB, with the thought being that the summed output of those paths would be equal in volume to the original path. So when you have two parallel paths and select between one or the other, that will be 3dB quieter than having the two amp blocks in series with each other and selecting one or the other. I'm not sure where the 3dB cut actually takes place in the signal flow, but if it's at the split block itself, that actually could cause a slight tonal difference through the amp blocks.

Yeah, this isn't really a bug, per se. This is just how it currently works. You have to choose between setting a millisecond value or a note value for the delay, and you can't switch between the two within a preset. You can set the BPM per snapshot, though, So if do that, you can tap a tempo in one snapshot and when you go to the next one, it will go to whatever it's saved at.

Yes, just one MIDI CC at a time.

Well, the dry signal coming from your guitar is mono... So what good would having it as stereo do?

To add to my post above, on my return flight, the flight attendant just told me to put the guitar in the overhead bin. I had an upgraded seat, so I boarded pretty early, so there was still plenty of room. I guess as long as you know you're board relatively early, you should be OK. There is always a chance you'd have to gate check it, though. I have checked guitars before and haven't had issues. I've used on the Fender SKB ATA cases, and it worked fine. If I were traveling internationally with my Variax, I'd probably buy one of those and use that. -
There won't be a standalone version of Native... At least at launch.

Well, GC does a horrible job marketing modeling products in general, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that... It's not unusual for a company to pull back on advertising after a product been on the market for awhile. The AMPLIFi stuff is over three years old now, I believe. All I'm saying is a product line that's a bomb doesn't stay on the market for three years, generally. As far as the G10, I'd imagine they've sold thousands of them. As to how many have failed, I have no idea. I know Line 6 will replace any that do. I'm not saying the power connection is ideal, whatever that means. I imagine if the failure rate is higher than acceptable, they'll incorporate changes into the design at the factory. That's not all that uncommon.

I'm a little confused as to when you want to send the MIDI command to Cubase... Are you saying you want to send a command to call up the next song before you end the song you're playing? If you do that won't it mess up the song you're currently in?
-
You consider the G10 and the AMPLIFi bombs? I'm pretty sure from Line 6's perspectives they aren't... The G10 seems to be selling quite well, and same with the AMPLIFi... I mean they released the AMPLIFi 30 a year or so after the original release. Do you think they would do that if the line was tanking? Line 6 will kill products that aren't doing well... They don't continue to sink money into them. Anyway, I'm sure if you contact Line 6, they'll send you that adapter.

Certainly a lot of different protection schemes are possible, but is anyone actually implementing them? Not that I know of... When I've purchased IRs, it's always a pretty low-tech endeavor. After you check out, a link is sent to your email and you can download the zip files. There's not really anything to stop someone from emailing those wav files or distributing them once they have them. Or as the OP states, you can always re-render IR files and call them whatever... The problem with taking the DRM route is such things often end up ticking off the people who are actually paying for the product and do little stop people who are actually being unethical.
-
I think the somewhat unspoken understanding in all of this is that there's something of an honor system at play. I'm sure not everyone who gets a hold of these IRs adheres to it, but, basically, the making and selling of IRs (and profiles) is such a tiny business, that I'm kind of surprised that there are people and companies even pursuing it, in a way. I guess the main thing is that the capital investment isn't all that huge, assuming you already have access to the recording equipment. But if customer do start abusing it, it will make it so that people stop making and selling IRs. The whole legal/copyright aspect would be hard, if not impossible, to pursue, I think... These aren't exactly compositions of songs, so it's hard to say what exactly is being copyrighted.

You don't need the receiver base to use it with the Spider V. Is your transmitter charged and/or charging? You just plug it into the Spider's input to charge it and sync it. It's described on page 8 of the Spider V Quick Start Guide.

Traveling with instruments
phil_m replied to Leftzilla's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I just took my JTV69US on a flight with me from Minneapolis to Philadelphia on Delta. I put it in a Fender gig bag I have and took it on as carry-on. I was playing at a party for trade show I was attending. I had no problem taking it on as a carry-on. The flight attendant let me put it in the closet near the front of the place. As far as effects, I didn't bring my Helix. I was playing through a rented backline amp, so I took a little Pedaltrain Metro 20 board with my M9 and a few other pedals on it. I just took a slightly bigger suitcase, and packed the board in there. If it were a different type of gig, I'd probably have taken my Helix in an ATA case, but I didn't really want to pay to check it for this thing, which was just a piecemeal band of lighting people. -
I don't think Line 6 will ever say something will never happen, unless it's simply technical unfeasible. I think they honestly don't know about in regards to some features, and they really are genuinely responsive to user feedback. So they end up doing stuff that wasn't originally on the roadmap.

Nope... In Preset Mode, while displaying presets the preset number will be displayed. If you're displaying a snapshot, the camera icon will be there. Only in Stomp Mode can you use all the characters. Personally, I think it's nice to have the visual cues to remind you what mode you're in.
-
Currently, the screen on the Helix doesn't have a refresh rate high enough to support a strobe tuner... That's not set in stone, though. But I imagine updating that would probably mean updating other stuff as well.
