  1. The guitar just shuts off. There's not any signs of a low battery. Sometimes after the first time it shuts off, there will be enough voltage in the batteries to cycle the power on for a few more minutes, but basically, once it's dead, it's dead.

    2.0 freezing?

When you installed the 2.0 update, did you do the FS 9+10 factory reset procedure?
  3. This issue or issues related to this have come up in several threads here. You aren't really missing anything simple, it's just the snapshots throw a potential wrench in the works when you're dealing the toe switch controlling the bypass states of effects and switching between EXP1 and EXP2. The issue goes away if you use an external pedal for EXP2, but if you don't want to do that, right now, you have to make a few compromises. One thing you can do, and it's kind of inelegant, is to short out the jack for EXP2 by putting a shorted 1/4" plug into the EXP2 jack (in the other thread, a user created his own by inserting a screw in one of those RCA to 1/4" adapters). If you do that, the onboard pedal will always be EXP1, and you can assign EXP1 to control both the wah and volume, and since they will never be active at the same time, it will still work. The other option, is really just changing the way you use it and just making it so you have your snapshots saved with wah block in the same state in each one and making sure you don't switch snapshots without toggling the pedal back. In your case, one thing you could do for this particular snapshot where you want to have wah active when you go into the snapshot is to simply drop in another instance of your wah block and have it so that the first wah block (let's call it "Wah A") is still bypassed in this snapshot but the second instance ("Wah B") is on. Wah A will be controlled by EXP2 and activated by the toe switch. Wah B will be controlled by EXP1 and won't be assigned to any footswitch. Its bypass state will only be controlled by the snapshot. So when you enter this snapshot, Wah B will turn on (you'd also want to set the bypass state of the volume pedal to off in this snapshot), and then you can just control it. The main trick with this is that you'll want to make sure you don't use the toe switch while in this preset or you'll turn the volume block and the other wah block on and toggle to EXP2, and things will be misaligned... So, yeah, it's not a perfect system by any means. I think Line 6 has a solution not too far off. But in the meantime, these are the options I see.
  4. No, but you can do it the other way around... You can change Variax models per snapshot. You can also still use the Variax tone and volume knobs as controllers for almost any parameter in the Helix.
  5. Are saying the EXP1/EXP2 state should be saved along with the snapshot? Like when you bring up a snapshot, the expression pedal selection always goes to the saved value? Yeah, that certainly seems doable.
  6. Well, what's the bug they need to fix exactly? There are two things going on. The first is that without a pedal plugged into the EXP2 jack, the toe switch toggles between EXP1 and EXP2 - this is the designed functionality. This happens in all modes as it stands now. The second thing is that snapshots save the bypass state of blocks. So it's just that because both of these things are dynamic and user-controlled in real-time, right now, it's possible for them to get out of sync. What is the bug that you would fix in this situation? I can think a few ways to address it in the way of adding some new features, but given the current feature set, it's not like there's something that's not currently working that needs fixed.
  7. All I'm saying is a bad design choice isn't the same as a bug... The former is intentional, the latter is not. Sheesh... I'm not rationalizing anything other than saying the way it's acting now is per design. If you think it sucks, ask them to change it.
  8. Well, no point in arguing about semantics (even though I know I'm right, lol... :) ) I am genuinely curious, though, and I'm asking this respectfully, why you wouldn't just switch the wah off before switching to a new snapshot? Typically, even if I were using a wah pedal with a real pedalboard, I would never switch another pedal on without turning the wah off first. Anyway, I can think of one simple way to make this better, and I suspect Line 6 is working on it...
  9. It's not a bug because it's exactly the way it was designed to work. It's just that there are two functionalities that under certain circumstance can cause a behavior that's not desirable. That's not the same thing as a bug. I'm really arguing as to whether it's the best possible design (although, I'm not sure how it could be changed in a way that makes it impossible to mess stuff up) - all I'm saying is it can't be called a bug simply because it's just part of the designed functionality at the moment. I mean, there are plenty of other ways you can mess things up in the Helix, too. It's not really designed to be foolproof. It's designed to be flexible.
  10. The reason is because hitting the toe switch also what controller the on-board pedal is controlling - EXP1 or EXP2 - when you don't have an external pedal connected to the EXP2 jack. So if you switch snapshots after hitting the toe switch once, your effects' bypass states will be misaligned with the active controller. It's not really unexpected behavior or a bug, it's just a limitation that you need to be aware if you're not using an external pedal and you're switching snapshots. As long as you hit the toe switch again before switching snapshots, things will work as expected.
  11. I thought you said the XLR out was working in your patch earlier? I guess I'd recommend troubleshooting each output individually first to see if indeed you are having some sort of issue with any of them before you start trying to set up more complex routing. How you do you have the output levels of each output set in the Global Settings menu?
  12. Are all the blocks in the lower path stereo? Are you positive the volume pedal's block's position parameter is at 100%?
  13. I'm sure it would be possible from a programming perspective. I think the only challenge in all of these discussions is coming up with a way to represent all these options in a way that is still understandable and straightforward. It seems when you start down the road of having modes with modes, things could get a little tricky. I think Line 6 is open to considering all suggestions for making the overall experience better, though.
  14. Have you tried other FRFR speakers, or have you always used the Carvins? The type of FRFR speaker really can make or break the way a modeler sounds. I have some cheap powered floor monitors and when I compare those to my L2t's or my studio monitors, it's night and day.
  15. Just move or delete any blocks you have on the parallel path being served by the split and/or merge blocks, and the path and those blocks will go away.
  16. The Helix has had this capability since the get-go.
  17. You have set the Variax model as parameter to be controlled just like any other parameter you can change per snapshot. Just the controller to "snapshot".
  18. Well, moving from one snapshot to another is by definition changing the preset, so, yeah, that makes sense.
  19. If you have some or all of your expression pedals set to global instead of per preset or snapshot, I believe that may give the E symbol if the pedal is in a different position than it was when you saved the preset. Not totally sure about that, but it would make sense, I think.
  20. If you really want to prove that the mag signal mixed into the model is the real deal, just notice that the signal that is blended in comes from the pickup for whatever the pickup selector is set to at the time. It's because the pickup selector is a real, analog selector, and the pickup positions are actually hardwired to it. So, for instance, if your selector is in the bridge position, the bridge pickup is what will be blended into your sound. There's no way to blend any of the other pickups in unless you change the position of the selector.
  21. Preset 09A, Funk Clean, in the Factory 2 setlist is my take on a clean funk preset (hence the name :) ). I'd say it was designed with single coil guitar in mind, preferably the neck or 2 or 4 positions on a Strat.
  22. No, right now, there isn't. You currently have two options for going between views showing 8 presets and 8 snapshots. The first is to just press the bank up and bank down switches simultaneously to change from preset mode to snapshot mode. The second is the change the preset view to show 8 snapshots rather than 8 presets under the Global Settings > Footswitches > Preset Mode Switches setting. If you do this you can hit the bank up or bank down switch while in either view to temporarily enter the preset select view and select a new preset.
  23. 1. In addition to the manual and forums, there's a bunch of information in the knowledgebase here: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/helix/ 2. Kind of a moot point now. 3. Unless you have the original IR files, no, those IRs will be gone. Perhaps you can contact the original owner about getting them. If they were IRs that he purchased commercially, though, technically he shouldn't be sharing them anyway. 4. It sounds like you're looking at an outdated version of the manual. The newest documentation is here: http://line6.com/support/manuals/helix 5. Yes, any pre-2.0 bundles should work with the 2.0 firmware.
  24. Doing the factory reset is required after the update. It's not surprising that you were having issues if you didn't do that after you installed the update originally.
  25. If you only connect one of the XLR outs, yes, it will automatically sum to mono.
