Is it possible to run Helix Native using HX Stomp's DSP power?
phil_m replied to donaldan's topic in Helix Native
NO! For the third time, no... Let this idea die, man. It's not how it works. There is no offloading of DSP from Native to Stomp. They are two separate things. The only way they're connected is that you can use the Stomp to record a dry for Native, and you can share presets between the two, but beyond that, there is no connection between them. Stomp is hardware. Native is software. They each do their own thing. -
The short answer is yes, they’re the same, but there are a few caveats. There are some differences in that there are stereo and mono versions of almost every block in Helix (Native), but in POD Go, all blocks are either mono or stereo. So it could be possible there’s differences in that. Did you make sure that all parameters in every block were exactly the same? There is some amount of model optimization in the POD Go compared to the Helix models as well. It’s hard to say without knowing some more details about what sort of differences you were hearing.

Having the Helix’s master volume knob all the way and the input pad off will give you unity gain through the Helix, so that part’s correct. I really don’t know why the Minotaur model wouldn’t be working like you want. I use that model as a clean boost all the time, and even with the Gain really low, like at 0.2, I only have to have the Level at 6 or so for it to be above unity gain. You really shouldn’t be having any trouble getting a boost, especially if you say your bypassed tone is at the right level. What else do you have in your chain?

I assume you bought your unit used? Because, yes, if you did, and the original owner bought Native with the discount, then you aren’t eligible for the discount. If you are talking about that was sold to you as new from a dealer, then you would still be eligible for the discount.

If it’s still relatively new, I’d see about getting a replacement from the retailer. Needless to say, it shouldn’t be happening.

I think it’s pretty evident that the Helix is not only good, but great for direct recording. It can take a little time to find your sound, especially if you’ve not used modeling a lot in the past. I suggest checking out some of Jason Sadites’ videos. He covers a wide variety of tones and walk thought how to get them: https://www.youtube.com/c/JasonSadites What are you monitoring the Helix with?

Not really... The POD Go sends very limited MIDI control messages. It can send the PC# that’s associated with a preset when you load a preset, but beyond that, there’s nor else you can do. It can also send MIDI clock. It’s not designed to be a MIDI over USB controller.

How do you have things connected? You really shouldn’t be having an issue. I’d recommend opening a support ticket so you can get to the bottom of things. You don’t want to downgrade if you have a potential issue with your unit.

GD = Glenn DeLaune. He’s a guitarist that has done quite a few videos for Line 6 stuff, and he has a bunch of content on the Marketplace as well. He posts here occasionally.

The problem with adding a global looper after the fact is that it would likely break some existing presets. The looper doesn’t use a lot of DDP, but it may be enough the push some presets that are close to the DSP limit over the edge. People always seem to think that these are things the designers didn’t talk about during the time when the product was being developed.

I don’t think there’s a way to do it right now apart from controlling one of the devices with MIDI and using an analog input for that device. The problem is that the L6 Link connection won’t pass the control information on from a PC+ to the DT50 or vice versa. I really doubt that there will be a change to this just because from what I understand the whole L6 Link implementation was really a bear to begin with. I just think the number users who would even want to use both devices at the same time is probably really small. So I just don’t see Line 6 investing more time and resources into going down that path.

Name something you can do with the DL4 looper you can’t do with the POD Go looper... The POD Go actually has an Undo function, which the DL4 doesn’t. You can build the signal chain around the looper block however you want... I used a DL4 and then an M13 for many years. Functionally, there’s not really a difference. I mean, I get that the looper doesn’t have every feature a dedicated looper pedal would have, but it’s certainly not unusable.

The POD Go looper is essentially a copy of what’s probably the most ubiquitous and probably still one of the most used looping devices around - the DL4. It’s a phrase looper. It’s not going to be useful if you’re looking from full-blown multi-track looping, but it’s hardly useless. To this day, the majority of live looping I’ve seen has been done with the DL4. Why would you want it removed? You don’t have to use it at all if you don’t want to. Pretend it’s not there if it makes you happier.

You can for sure switch presets while using the looper... It's even mentioned in the manual.

You can switch presets while looping, as mentioned above. You just have to have the same looper block in each preset. With the POD HD series, the looper block was automatically in each preset, but the number one feature request from customers was to have the option to remove it... So Line 6 did that in the Helix and now the POD Go. Sometimes you can't please everyone, I guess.

It's just the presets you created? Are you seeing this on HX Edit, the Stomp itself, or both? Are you sure the presets just haven't been renamed? When's the last time you updated? You should have a backup if you've updated recently.

That’s not really why they called it the Litigator... It’s basically a Line 6 original based on a Fender circuit as a starting point. It’s kind of in the same ballpark as a Dumble, in a sense. But Ben Adrian came up with the virtual circuit himself. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/line6-helix.1586637/page-1537#post-23073401

These forums aren’t support or customer service forums. They’re user forums. Sometimes users do have solutions to some problems. But for some things, you really need to contact Line 6 support through the way of opening up a support ticket. The X3 Live, I’d add, is a pretty old product at this point. It hasn’t been in production for over 10 years now. That’s pretty much a lifetime for a piece of electronic gear.

That’s pretty weird. Opening a support ticket is probably your best bet.

Go to Global Settings>Ins/Outs>Return Type and make sure it's set to Aux In.

Just go to the latest - 2.92.

It’s a good point. I think the reason they limited it like that was to not confuse people who are new to the whole thing. The main driving force behind the design of the POD Go was to get back to the concept of the original POD, where you could quickly dial in a tone with a relatively limited number of choices. Obviously, they’ve expanded well beyond that, but I think they wanted to limit the number of submenus and such. If people want more complex devices and want more control over the DSP, there’s plenty of other choices available in the Helix line.

You need to update HX Edit to version 2.92 as well.
