Helix-Edit/-Native: pictures of amps and effects!
datacommando replied to fruijter7777's topic in Helix
Hi, It’s not a flaw - someone else was asking a similar question over in the HX Native forum. Here’s my reply to him: ”If you have a liking for larger icons of the model that look like the amp, or pedal, simply click on the block/grid of 9 squares in the header bar of the EDIT window of Helix Native, or HX Edit to change it from “list view”. There has been a debate about skeuomorphic design for interfaces over on TGP for quite a while. The jury is still out, but the Fender ToneMaster Pro seems to started the ball rolling again.” Check out all the models here: https://helixhelp.com/models There are some younger Helix users who have never seen a Fender Bassman so a picture would mean nothing to them. -
Hi, Good to know that fixed your missing cabs issue. A reset can generally blow out any bugs that may occur, especially after firmware updates, so it’s a good place to start troubleshooting your unit. Have fun with the new stuff.

Hi, Rule number one for when weird stuff starts to happen is perform a Factory Reset. That should put it back to "box fresh" condition. Uh? - Didn't know it was recommended? It's noted on the Downloads page for HX Edit, and also in the Release Notes for every Firmware Update - here it is at point 3 from the last update to v.3.70. Updating Helix/HX Hardware (Except For HX One) With Helix/HX connected to your computer, launch HX Edit (3.01 or higher), and make sure you're signed in. HX Edit knows when a new update is available and will walk you through the entire update procedure for both hardware and software, including backing up everything to your computer. IMPORTANT! If you're running HX Edit 3.00 or older, download HX Edit 3.70 and repeat step 1. HX Edit 3.70 (macOS): https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=12404 HX Edit 3.70 (Windows): https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=12406 If your Helix Floor/Rack/LT is currently running firmware 3.15 or older, halfway through the update to 3.70, Helix's LCD reads "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" THIS IS NORMAL. Breathe deep, everything is fine. You're almost there. HX Edit will display a message indicating the device must be reset. Click resume and wait for the second part of the update to complete. Perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! Helix Floor/LT: While holding footswitches 9 & 10 (bottom row, 2 middle switches), turn on Helix Floor/LT Helix Rack: While holding knobs 5 & 6 (2 furthest right knobs below the screen), turn on Helix Rack HX Effects: While holding footswitches 6 & TAP (2 farthest right switches on the bottom row), turn on HX Effects HX Stomp: While holding footswitches 2 & 3, turn on HX Stomp HX Stomp XL: While holding footswitches C & D, turn on HX Stomp OPTIONAL: Performing a factory reset loads the new 3.70 Factory Presets, but restoring from your backup will overwrite these. Spend some time exploring these and export the factory presets you want to keep (or drag them to your desktop). If you have unused setlists in Helix Floor/Rack/LT, you can also export the entire FACTORY 1 bundle for loading into an unused setlist later. From the top File menu, select Restore From Backup... If you don't have any important presets in Setlist 1, click the disclosure triangle next to Presets and uncheck the first setlist's box; this will retain 3.70's FACTORY 1 setlist. Select the backup file created in Step 1 and click Restore Backup. If you run into trouble, check out this link. Hope this helps?makes sense Note: This is a useful resource for all things Helix. https://helixhelp.com

Hi, Sooner or later - hmm… it has already been done, but not with HX products, and I don’t think that will be happening anytime soon. Somebody has come out with a small box like the Stomp that can run plug-ins, you really need to check out the Dwarf from MOD Audio. Here ya go! https://mod.audio/dwarf/ Hope this helps makes sense.

Hi, That second photo is my Helix showing the same preset as the one in the HX Edit image. The pictures show an example where I was attempting to add the “Feedbacker” block to a preset in which both the DSPs are almost maxed out. Both images show that the “Feedbacker” is NOT available to use in the signal chain. In the post from @molul the quote is:- “and yeah, it should appear as grey, not disappear.” Looks like it is visible in my pic. If you guys think that this is a bug then the best thing to do is report it by raising a ticket with Customer Support. The more reports, the faster there will be a fix, if it needs one. I cannot report it because I am not seeing that “bug” - see pics again. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX EDIT - showing Feedbacker not Selectable HELIX - showing Feedbacker not Selectable

Hi, That is not a screenshot - it is a .php file that downloads nothing. Try attaching a .jpg file by using the choose files option. Also, buying pre-owned electronic equipment is always a bit of an unknown - you pay your money and take a chance. Plus, what @silverhead said in his post - check if HX Native discount is available as part of the deal.

What happened was - you didn’t read my reply posted above, which explains that it is a MONO effect! Look under Dynamics Models > MONO

Hi, This as been asked before, and the answer is NO, they are greyed out for a reason. Using Command Centre allows you assign almost anything to anything else, BUT the MODE/EDIT/EXIT Switch is exactly that - it allows you to toggle from Preset to Snapshot operation, or hold to edit. If you could assign another option to it you would essentially screw up the basic functions. Like wise the TAP/TUNER, it already has a couple of jobs to do and they are fixed. At least the Command options allows you to use 6 switches by being able to change the function of the Bank Up/Down buttons to something more useful. Note: It is fairly obvious that you can only change 6 options as there are only 6 sections available to name in the main display window. I keep posting this, but hey - Hope this helps/makes sense.

Bluescreen on Update -> "Boot Failure, Entered Update Mode!"
datacommando replied to manyasone's topic in Helix
Hi, Good to know you have a fully functional updated Helix LT - enjoy! Regarding Firefox, I would think that it’s file handling capabilities are much like they are on my Mac, where it’s known to sometimes mess up downloads. If I recall correctly, you can change the preferences for how it handles downloaded files. The best way is to have it download to a folder that you have specified, otherwise it will sometimes try to unzip the files before the transfer is complete. Have fun! -
Hi, Seems strange to see a GarageBand question in a Pro Tools thread? Anyhow, every time anyone has asked about this before, the solution is that you MUST NOT check the box in the Preferences panel. I can’t think of a reason why that would have changed. See example here: Hope this helps/makes sense. Oh, look - here’s one from last year!

Hi, Something to consider, and you have possibly discovered already, is trying to match the settings from POD Farm by applying the same numbers to Helix Native will not work. The Helix audio engine is a completely different animal. If you have a liking for larger icons that look like the amp, or pedal, of the model simply click on the block/grid of 9 squares in the header bar of the EDIT window of Helix Native to change it from “list view”. There has been a debate about skeuomorphic design for interfaces over on TGP for quite a while. The jury is still out, but the Fender ToneMaster Pro seems to started the ball rolling again. Spend some more time with HX Native and you will get used to it, or do an A/B comparison of both plug-ins with your eyes closed. I know which I prefer. Some folks are just happy with what they already know - for instance there is a guy over in the main Helix forum who insists that his POD 500HD sounds better than the Helix - each to their own. LOL - regarding Neanderthals and musicians - the way I heard it was, “What do you call someone who hangs out with musicians?” Answer: “A drummer”.

Hi, It seems that you posted the same thing about 8 hours earlier than this one. See the the reply posted there. Hope this helps/makes sense.

UX2 Not working after Sonoma Update
datacommando replied to johnnyace1971's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Hi, It seems strange that GarageBand can detect your guitar via the TonePort, but not your mic. Did you use the Mac Audio MIDI Setup Utility to change the microphone input settings? -
Yeah, it sure is, but it was a much requested feature that comes at a cost. I guess some folks should be careful of what they wish for, although it seems to have pleased most of them. Still, there is the option to add a hardware version via the FX Loop - either with a genuine FreqOut pedal, a new HX One, or one of the other pseudo feedback pedals available.

Bluescreen on Update -> "Boot Failure, Entered Update Mode!"
datacommando replied to manyasone's topic in Helix
Hi, In your comment you have mentioned trying to reconnect using HX Edit. When you have a hardware unit in a “failed state” it will not reconnect to your device by using HX Edit. Follow this link, read it thoroughly, and follow the instructions given by @SaschaFranck. Take Note: this installation technique described within was for an earlier version of the Firmware. Any references to version numbers should be the very latest available for the new 3.70 Firmware. The method for “Offline” updating is identical. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, It’s not missing - it’s right there where it should be. It’s a MONO effect. “† The Feedbacker model utilizes DSP-intensive polyphonic pitch shifting and, therefore, is mono.” Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, I had a confirmation of this being a “bug”, earlier in this thread, then later in an email from Support. Also, over on TGP, Digital_Igloo responded to another person asking about this issue. His reply was:- “Yes, there’s a bug. Will be fixed in 3.71. No time frame, but it should be soon.” The Glitch Delay is not something that I use everyday, but it is incredibly irritating to discover that it now malfunctions for no apparent reason. I will just avoid using it until the fix, as it is too much hassle for me to roll back for something I don’t rely on. Hope for a quick fix.
-
Hi, The fancy icons don’t make it sound any better - you are only fooling yourself. It’s the audio that counts. Yes, I have a copy of POD Farm and Gear Box taking up space on one of my external drives. Much the same as my POD XT Live and POD HD500, which are gathering dust in the corner of the studio - no comparison to what the latest audio reproduction of Helix can produce. If you should decide to stick with a software technology from 2010, just because it looks pretty - that’s fine, but I will simply leave you with this quote from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: And we'll be saying a big hello to all intelligent life forms everywhere. And to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Helix Native - Tap Tempo Pitch / Global Settings
datacommando replied to elliotmoose's topic in Helix Native
Hi, The information regarding the editing of Tempo settings (including Tap) is covered in the Helix Native Pilot’s Guide 3.70 (Rev U) on page 36. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f1542654ead6ac7570/application/pdf/Helix Native Pilot's Guide 3.70 - English .pdf You can also choose the Pilot’s Guide from under the menu. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Happy to assist - and even though we are in 2023 not everyone has a bulletproof internet connection and online updates can still be troublesome. At least we have the option of a “local install”, and luckily we are not on dial up modems. Have fun with the new stuff.

Hi, That’s a rather curious question. It depends what the presets were designed to be used with? Helix, Rack and LT units have 2 DSPs and can handle more signal paths. The HX Stomp and XL devices are limited to a single DSP. Helix Native is a software plugin and only restricted by the processing power of your computer. As for “desktop software” - the only thing that runs from the computer as an application is HX Edit. You need to have your hardware connected via USB, then HX Edit will display the current presets onboard your HX unit. Any third party presets, or downloads from CustomTone can then be “drag and dropped” into available empty slots, or overwrite existing presets, in HX Edit. Any changes made in HX Edit are transferred to your hardware device. If the “Djent / Prog Rock” packs you mention were purchased from the Line 6 Marketplace, or even a third party vendor on the internet, you should have been informed as to which specific device they were created for. Hope this helps/makes sense.
