If you are a Glenn Delaune supporter head to his site and get his new snapshots. The sound incredible and shows some of the power in more depth. It's going to take me awhile to figure this all out.
-
Ha ha ha! It is a game changer. So now my AX8 is going to sit for awhile. Sigh!
-
What an awesome new feature. I got Glenn Delaunes new Snapsots which are amazing demos of this feature Did someone say we need scenes?
-
I was nervous at first. Halfway through the update my screen turned to a jumbled mess but the updater was still running fine. I let it finish and all went well. It's working great. Did my resets too

He hit it on the head. If it were that easy everyone would be doing it all ready. I know the PC world tried dual processors in some high end computers. They had to have large power supplies and multiple fans. They still overheated easily. It kills me when people always bring up the Nova System and that it has spillover. The Nova System is just a multi effect board. There are no amp or cab models. It is a totally different animal. There is no way to add effects by firmware update. It can dedicate 100%bof it's available processing power to the effects. It also can not string as many effects together. And it only has two drives and they suck. I had one. It sounded great at home but sucked live. It was just a pain (could have been the amp we used it in). It actually led to the no amp rule at church. We can't compare apples to oranges when wanting things in the Helix. This all ties in with DI's post where he mentioned how people cherry pick their favorite features from other devices and demand they are needed in Helix. I think the bottom line is that to accomplish the current high quality modeling of amps and effects spillover isn't going to happen between patches. None of the top dogs do it. Your older units on some brands may have it in some form but they do not compare in tone or flexibility of the units we are comparing. I am sure in time this will change. Look how quick the technology has advanced to do what it does now. I am also sure Line 6 will eventually come up with some sort of workaround that will appease people on the Helix. It won't be exactly what you want but it will work. As for scenes, I love that feature on my AX8 and it would work, I am just not certain it is something that can just be added by firmware.

I believe there is spillover between scenes but not patches. I could be wrong since I am still learning the AX8.
-
I agree Peter. I actually own both now. There are pluses and minuses to both but when taken as a whole you can't go wrong with either. The Helix is my main unit because I find it so much easier to adjust on the fly. I am still learning the AX but it reminds me more of the HD series with Pod. By this I mean you have to work through layers on a small screen to make adjustments. But I like the AX edit better than the Helix software. I wish AX supported wav IRs but I own Redwirez so I got both formats with the Bigbox (I wanted a few Ownhammer but no idea how to convert). Helx is more flexible for rig setups for sure. AX8 has no headphone jack. At first that miffed me but after seeing so many people complain that their patch sounded great in headphones but not live I understand leaving it out. It still amazes me people think setting it to a 1 to 2 inch driver should sound the same as a stack of 12s amazes me. Lol. It is actually sort of amazing they get close at times. The one area AX8 may have Helix is in amp adjustability. I know people are going to get upset by this comment. The Helix amps sound fantastic and some have just the knobs the amp would while others have tons of tweaking. But every amp has layers of changes that you can do on the AX8. And the one area I like about the amp interface is all the amp knobs in the unit. You really have to play and look at the AX8 to understand what I mean, but to give you an idea you can experiment with different preamp tubes on some of the AX models

Am I the only one that uses volume pedals first in the chain? I have been doing this since my sound days going back to high school and college in the late 70s and early 89s.
-
+1. I have used the HD series at church for a few years. The Helix sounds so much better. I have heard the HD series sound ok, but never close to the Helix. And the Helix is 100x more user friendly.
-
After using the Helix the interface on the AX8 does seem more complicated. It isn't terribly hard, but not as easy. It is interesting to hear different sides. The Helx is more powerful also with its ability to use two Amps/cabs in a single patch. No headphone jack on AX8. One thing I like about the Line 6 board is that no one gets terribly upset if someone mentions Kemper or AX. That isn't the case on the AX forums. Some get offended if you even mention liking Helix or Kemper. I think overall Helix will prove to be the easiest and most flexible opinion out there. I think AX will always have an elitest fanbase attitude. Maybe I have been way off in my thoughts. It is very possible each has its own spot in the market. Which will do best in sales? Who knows.

I agree with all of that DI. And I also think Line 6 has done a great job addressing performance issues which should always be priority before more goodies ( not that there have been a lot). I am not slamming Line 6 at all. I am just saying they are competitors whether people want to call them that or not. Most will weigh the options and pick the one they want. A few, like myself, will opt for more than one of the devices. I will admit that I only did so because we needed a second unit at church and it presented me with the opportunity for both. The Church is slready looking at a Helix to leave at church for everyone to use.

Ya. The Gibson in here is nice for sure. And as for success I meant long term. It is dong well now without a doubt, but a lot of new technology starts out well. Like I said I really like my Helix. Just adding to the debate.
-
I made similar comments to the original poster in the past. And I stood by the fact that it needed more just to keep up with the competition. It was appropriately pointed out that there are a lot of features the others didn't have like connectivity options. Others said it was its own product and while it was similar to the others they were not really competing. The not competing part is completely wrong. I too love the Helix. It will remain my main unit for live work. I now also have an AX8. I do expect Line 6 to add stuff but if they don't I can live with it. But if they don't the product will not succeed. I firmly believe this after getting the AX8. Like I said, Helix will remain my live rig. It is simply the best and easiest in live situations. Not necessarily in amp sims, both do well there, but Helix is just easier to use and easier to interface with your existing setup. No matter what it is. I will say one thing to the original poster. One of the biggest issues Line 6 faces is what to add if they do. What you consider iconic amps and list above others will disagree with. I would say there are many I would prefer over those. So Line 6 has created idea scale to try to get what the majority want. The problem us no matter what they do some will be upset. For me I would want Dumble, early Gibson amps (for that old Rockabilly stuff) etc. Age enters in here. So I have come to realize that I just need to sit back and be happy when and if they add things. If I hope for this or that I will just be disappointed because they didn't add what I wanted.

Late to the party but +1 for the Mission. Just be sure to by the Mission with he Line 6 logo on it. They make various configurations.
-
I use Krokit 5 Speakers so the JBLs should be fine. They are ok for their purpose and get me pretty close to what I use live.
-
I do not use the bundle either. I have the original one saved and I don't think I have ever tried it since. I realize that it restores old stuff. DI explained it pretty well when it first came out. I am not sure why I tried it this time. But since it's there it should work.
-
I have everything backed up. I have been doing that since firmware 1.0 and actually have most of those backups as well. I generally do the 7 and 8 reset every firmware update and restore everything.
-
I have searched for this (I hate forums search functions) but can't find it.,I was messing with the editor and had an issue. Before report it I wanted to see if I just missed an issue here. Before starting to do my editing I decided to save my bundle. At about 9% I got an error saying there was unknown data in my preset and the process stopped, freezing the editor at that point and requiring me go into the task manager in Windows 10 and shut down thenHelix editor. I decided to reboot just in case and try it again. Same issue. All of my presets I made will save individually just fine so I am not sure if it was an issue with the procedure or if a factory preset was causing this. Everything else seemed to be working fine. All of my firmware etc. are the latest versions. I am going to experiment more today or tomorrow (time permitting as I have family stuff today and a medical treatment tomorrow). I think I will try a reset of Helix holding 7 and 8 and then try it again. I can't remember if I reset them when I did the last firmware update smi thought I might try that. I wondered if anyone else has encountered this? If so did you fix it? Or is this some kind of a bug ?
-
I understand the issues but it was only a problem for me the first few days. Now I seldom if ever do it (watch me start again after saying this). I actually like the thing like it is but I seem to be in the minority. It is no more difficulty than my PS4 controller. I have seen a couple cool ideas that might improve it with the current know though. Someone had this rubber thing they put on it that allowed everything but turning it. You could pull it off to turn it.

They do look nice but I already have a Studio Slips cover I had made that I am happy with.
-
Why would AX not add a headphone jack? Or is there one I missed. If their is not one than it almost reaks of snobbery on the developer side. Or maybe it sounded so different in headsets that it was best not to include it. I suppose that argument could be use on the Helix as well. If it was not there it would solve complaints about how different it sounds live. Personally I need it for silent practice and studio stuff.

I own all of his as well and will continue to grow them as he releases them. As the others said I tweak some a little and others I use as is. They are great and I am sure he spends a lot of time with tweaking to get what he wants. If we all had the exact same gear I am sure they would never need tweaked.
