  1. I am always wondering if I should do the reset prior to actually applying the update or after. I read the stuff each time then still wonder.
  2. 85 db wouldn't even cut through our congregational singing...lol.
  3. Very nice Glenn. I watched it and thought "Wow! There is so much deep, stuff I do not know on the Helix"! What is cool is that you don't have to know it all. Simple setups can sound amazing. One reason I avoided modeling was all of the tweaking and patch process. I was always a stomp on the pedal and just turn a knob type of guy. My son has always been the tweaker. But Helix is good for both camps. I am going through your video in little sections to learn more myself. Someone on YouTube was all worked up because we buy your patches. But this is actually why some of us do. We would rather not spend hours tweaking. And yours sound awesome. I have your screen protector ( which you can't even see unless you are told and look for it) and your initial set of patches. I can't wait for artist patches. I know they take time but I check constantly to see it you have more. I guess my age is showing as I am lazy and it takes longer to learn.
  4. I did this twice. I realized on the second time that I was going to fast and had accidentally cleared all the block. I had hit a wrong button and because I was going so fast the corresponding button in the accidental screen was clear all blocks.
  5. Agree with the Global settings. Every time I do an update I forget about them.
  6. I still can't say enough about this Mono Bag. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/M80PedalTour I have never found a bag this sturdy before. Tons of padding. And there is enough room in it that I actually put my Studio Slips Cover over it in the bag just to take up the extra room. I didn't initially. The extra compartment is huge for cables and such and there is a little zippered mesh pocket inside that compartment for picks, capos, etc. I could probably get my expression pedal in with Helix but it would be pretty tight. I can't confirm that because I haven't tried it. I know it isn't cheap but the stitching is intense. It is just so we'll built. I am tempted to try their guitar bag but it's real pricey. The Line 6 bag looks well done in the pictures but base on their previous stuff I know it will be as sturdy as the Mono, though I do not intend that to mean it will be bad. I am sure it will be a great choice also. I just never ever use back packs. I hate them. I guess it brings back National Guard memories or those damned forced Boy Scout trips I hated as a kid (love the outdoors and hunt but never liked scouts)
  7. I also wanted to add I really am not against you guys. I do understand the frustration/anger you have. We do disagree on certain aspects. I do think it will need to be addressed at some point.
  8. Your points on Line 6 should be compatible with their iwn product is well taken and fur the most part I agree there. But it also isn't unusual for new lines to not have backwards compatibility. I guess I could possibly see the phantom powe issue on small 6 to 12 channel boards just having all on or off. I really was nit debating that issue. Like I said in a previous post on here I have been out of the pro audio field for many years and the smallest board we used was 18 channels with only a few exceptions. We did use small Shure single mixers that could be bussed fir 8 channels max but they had no phantom power. I believe everyone when they tell me about it though again, I would never have one like that no matter how any channels. I guess I need to research the next board we get as we use phantom in a couple for a number of different things and switch our setup often. That said I still stand by most of my thoughts. I do agree that it would be nice if Liine 6 at least acknowledged that they will investigate the issue but to admit an issue opens up all kinds of legal issues that they will not do unless they are positive there is a major issue. For me it is a non issue as there are easy fixes. I understand that may not be the case. To give you an idea how long ago my sound work was the last Major Act I did (lots of small for few years after) was Olivia Newton John is support of The Rumour album. It was actually more of a Christmas show as it was 88 or 89. I can't even remember the year. I was a free lance hiree for the show and mostly did monitor mix at the show.
  9. I feel for those with issues but I do not consider this a Line 6 issue. If they had known all that would be required would be a troubleshooting note stating that if you get excessive his through a mixing console using the helix car outs make sure phantom power is off or try switching the output of the helix to mic. Can this be addressed in future Helix units? Sure but production costs , designs and extra components for the output transformers will increase cost. They wouldn't make devices to block phantom power if this wasn't an issue that happens with other devices too. Try hooking an old ribbon mic up to s board with phantom power on. Not only will you hear hiss but you will probably fry the ribbon element. Issues like that are why I could not believe it when people said they couldn't turn off phantom power or could only turn it on or off every output. Not having outputs isolated from phantom power is totally unacceptable in professional , or any audio, for that matter. Especially in today's multimedia world. Our projector goes nuts if phantom power gets switched on it's channel. if enough people have issues I am sure future units will be modified. But only if it's a huge issue meaning 1000s of complaints. They will be spending R&D money for an issue that is not really theirs. If it has to be done I am sure it will be in time. I guess they could through an extra sheet of paper in the box with additional trouble shooting notes for now but I can't see that unless a lot more have issues. Keep in mind that even if 50 people complain about it on here that is probably an acceptable level for line 6 if they have 3000 units out there.
  10. I can almost guarantee there is nothing they can do,with software for that issue. It would take a circuit redesign to fix this issue . In years past I have seen this occur on things like high end Mocs, certain rack units like effects etc. so I doubt it can be addressed.Especially since it is not really their issue and is easily resolved by turning phantom power off for the channel. I have on,y heard recently of boards with no way to,turn off phantom power on individual channels or blocks of channels. I find that ludicrous and at first didn't believe it but multiple people have said this so I guess it is so. There are transformers you can buy to put on these board inputs that should do the trick but they probably are not real cheap. You could try the 1/4 inch outputs also. Another alternative though not a preferred work around would be to go into your channel insert but this also bypasses the channel preamp. This is not preferred but I do not think inserts carry phantom power. I truly hope there is a firmware fix but I highly doubt it.

    Christmas

I have been wondering if Line 6 might surprise us with a new amp or effect update her the holidays? While I think they are busy working on bugs and perfecting the user experience it would be a cool surprise. I am not going to be disappointed if it doesn't happen. I am just blessed to have my unit and that it works so well.
  12. +1 here. Plus Glenn is using different amps (sometimes multiple amps) in patches. It is like switching from a Fender Champ to a Hughes Ketner and expecting a seamless transition in volume and tone. It isn't going to happen. A normalization circuit would seriously suck any tone you had.
  13. You may have covered this but did you try setting the xlr outs of the Helix to Mic level? I believe they are line by default. Some board inputs do not handle line level well. Especially the preamps of some older analogue boards but I have heard of it with digital as well. We actually have to do this with our system. The first time I hooked up hiss was quite loud. I set xlr outs to mic, maxed Helix Volume and then adjusted the boards channel input gain. It is pristine now.
  14. I have yet to have this issue live. My son does a ton of switching when he uses it and it has yet to happen. We go direct to the board. Prior to the first update I did have this happen once. It was not the toe switch as I didn't use it then (still don't really as I have a mission engineering expression hooked up also) and I have no idea what I did prior. It didn't lock up as it did when I maxed out dsp once, it just had no sound. I suppose it is the same issue but it has not happens since and I went a little nuts trying to see if I could recreate the issue. I am going to keep trying this week to see if I can at least get a sequence that causes it. I dogma full reset and reload saved info each update. I did have my volume pedal quit working once live. At that time it was the onboard, not gone MI. It wouldn't do anything until I rebooted. It was just once lime the other issue but more recent. After the latest update in fact. I should also add we have only been using it for single short sets at church so far. I am not sure if that has anything to do with why we gave not had it happen.
  15. I have Glenn's installed as well. It works great. I couldmnevrbhave mad known look so nice. I forget it is even on there.
  16. That is why I buy from Sweetwater. They give everything a two year warranty. They do not cover drops and spills but everything else. I know Musicians Friend offers a big warranty but I have found their service horrible. I had a replacement in a bad monitor speaker from Sweerwater 24 hours after they received the defective one (I live one day shipping via Fed ex away. Another reason I like them). I am a person with no luck. If something will fail it eventually will happen to me. I had all kinds of issues with switches on the X3. Even though it was out of warranty Line 6 covered the switch costs as they said it was a known issue I had. So yes, they will take care of you.. These feel much nicer than the X3 switches.
  17. You have to love auto correct. 🙄
  18. Even with a Windows update Monkey will not work. All the new Line 6 product use the Line 6 Updater. From what they are saying monkey will no longer be used for any new products as they transition to the new Updater.
  19. Though no one is going to believe you until it actually is released.😀
  20. The problem there is that it may not apply to The Helix. It might but you would have to ask. A lot of times their coupons only apply to in store or in stock items. They always say some restrictions apply and use that excuse. It will be cool if they honor it on a Helix though.
  21. I have been out of pro sound too long. You guys are telling me they make boards with no on or off for phantom power on channels? That sounds absurd to me as there was always an odd device or two that didn't play well with phantom power. Back when I did sound for a living (granted it was 25 years ago) even a cheap 8 or 16 channel board with a single button for phantom power only engaged it on a couple channels. Not every one. I would never buy a board if it was like that.
  22. I got mine today. Real nice. I got the pocket also and they asked about the flap so I did it. Super nice quality. I probably could have skipped the pouch but it is a nice addition. I did extra padding as well. I have my Mono Case so I went with a padded cover in case something drops on it.
  23. I have heard a few side by sides with Axe and Kemper now. I do not want to say one sounds better than the other. In the right hands all three sound great. I went with Helix based on ease of use and not having to have a unit and a controller. And price wise it was the best. If it were solely studio use I would have probably went Kemper just because it will take a snapshot of anything and the user libraries are huge. Brit Floyd sold me on the whole technology. After seeing them use Axefx live I was amazed. But to my ear if I had to pick a winner from the tone it would be very hard. I think Kemper may be the very slight winner, but let's not forget Helix is a baby and continued improvement will naturally follow. As for the issues there have been a few but I think it is no more than one would expect to occur with a brand new product and technology. No matter how many testers you have there will be issues on release as there are so many different ways people use the products. Also, with no disrespect intended to anyone, an awful lot of the so called bugs are not really bugs but either improper settings or using the device unexpected manners. Again, it is impossible to test every set up idea in the static testing environment. Another issue has been comparability with other Line 6 devices . Despite the fact that Line 6 stated that the support was not there people, expected it to work perfect. I don't know if Line 6 didn't expect that to be a big issue or if it was something they intended to work on later. From following those threads it seems like Line 6 has worked on providing some support there and people, with the devices have started finding ways to make it work. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and will like the unit. I would say order for Sweetwater instead of Musicians Friiend but that is a personal issue I have with MF.
  24. I should add that if you have a way to make nice, straight, measured cuts, the Kindle Fire protector seemed to work. I don't and I am lazy so ordering Glenn's was a no brainier for me. If the Helix screen is plastic I would also have a little concern about the long term affect of the mild adhesive used on most tablet protectors.
