Nice. I was using a Kindle Fire protector I cut up. I didn't do a very good job with the scissors.

Ordered mine as well. Anxiously awaiting some Billy Gibbons presets now...lol.

Helix FW 1.04.1 (and Helix App 1.02) Now Available
BigRalphN replied to Digital_Igloo's topic in Helix
I have started downloading the update first then updating. This should prevent any Internet connection issues which could occur. Something I learned as a tech support guy many years ago with any version was to go into task manager and close any program I don't need.. If you see something you are unsure if leave it alone as you do not want to stop system files.. It's basically line doing it in safe mode then. To often things share resources and screw up updates.. More often than not we blame line 6 when it is another program that is the culprit. Just because it's closed doesn't mean it isn't in memory. I have started the task manager and had six Iexplorer running -
Nice update.. I guess they go with numbers in popularity or ease of updates with choices. I had really hoped for a couple phasers but I understandctheyccant hit everyone's wishes. Not sure why dual delay is needed when you can just add two delay blocks.

One more quick question for the L6 guys here.. Is there any reason to reset/ the stock presets in this version. Did theyvgetctweajed in any way. My upgrade went flawless without resetting them. -
I had no issues with my windows 7 system. Did you upgrade the Helix app and save your bundle prior to doing the firmware update? Maybe step is through the entire procedure you did. Then we can compare how we did it. It might give us ideas.

Is the purpose of the dual delay just to free up a block?? I am not totally getting the purpose otherwise. I have been using two delays since day one with the Helix with fantastic results. In fact I think it sounds better that way.. I am not complaining. I appreciate more options. I am just wondering the thought process and also what it is modeled after.. If course I didn't have a ton of time to play so I may nail it with tweaks.. I have been using the transistor delAy and elephant man combo with plate delay for my U2 stuff so far. -

I wonder if the switch to a blank preset before power down would be a work around in itself.. -
I have the same experience. It sounds great in every application. Have you taken it elsewhere to see how it sounds through different monitors or a house system?? I have read where people have issues with certain monitors orc system's and it was just a matter of finding the right settings with them. Before oversee it in it return for refund I would check it in multiple setting. If it sounds good in your headsets it doesn't sound like it's defective. I can't imagine 1/4 in and xlr outs both being bad and the headsets being fine.

Looks nice. I am old though. I dont understand this generations fascination with backpacks for everything. I hate wearing a backpack. It makes me feel like I am back in the military and I didn't like it then. But that is nothing against the product. It looks nice and should sell well. Good job Line 6.

Moving the joystick without rotating (split from "on the fly saving")
BigRalphN replied to mdmayfield's topic in Helix
Get used to interface design is no different than life events. I point to my old job. After I gave up full time sound work I ended up in a steel mill running overhead cranes. We had old lever systems to lidt, trolley and travel as well as brakes. When the plant changed ownership they updated all the cranes. Gone was our levers and in its place were two super sensitive joysticks. They were super sensitive and one stick replaced two to three levers in functions. It was very hard at first and we had people's lives in our hands. Old timers flipped. We lifted 3 ton coils right next to people. But within a couple months we realized that the new system was more precise. With practice we all became better. And while a few longed for their old trusty levers the high majority realized that what we had switched to was much better and safer in the long run. You mentioned a car pulling left. That is a malfunction. The Helix is a purposeful design. In a previous thread they mentioned all the testing they did Touchscreen and other things were eliminated and this is what people who tested liked. People are not giving this a fair shake. The Helix has not even been out long enough for anyone to fully get used to things. Much like the stupid screen in my car. Ha ha. One of my points above was that a lot of us like the current controls. Most people seem to want it exactly to their specs with no regard to others(not you as you are for an on or off type thing). That just isn't possoble. Everyone will need to make compromises on what they want. Like I said abice a simple on or off for knob rotation would be a simple compromise. It would not require circuit redesigns(which some of the above would require). At least I don't think it would. Then all the functionality is still there and accidental rotation would do nothing. Turn it on and it is as is. I suppose I don't have problems because though retired now, I used a similar joystick. I am not going to say I never had it turn on me. At first it did. I mess up all the time with the touch sensitive switches. I constantly bump one with my forearm goofing things up while tweaking. But I am getting better there too. -

Actually the term "get used to it" is perfectly valid. Being older than many of you, I can say without a doubt that there are a ton of changes in your life and in technology that you just have to get use to. More often than not not it turns out easier. But we live in an "entitled society" these days where everyone has to have it their exact eay, but that is a different subject and not directed at a particular petson. I find myself being the same at times. Back to the point I have said all along that the easiest way to do this is just have a joystick rotation disable feature..so if it's on it worked as is. Off and turning the joystick does not thing. All other joystick features would work. -

It isn't broke. There are just as many of us who have no issue once we get used to it. I do not want it played with and made sluggish. The joystick is my favorite part of the editor.. -
I got the G50. It arrived today. Super great build. It works great around the house. We will see on Sunday how it does live. I expect it to be fine though. I am not familiar with that particular Samson. I had an old Samson from awhile back that was useless. I believe it was the old HF style. It was super noisey. I gave it to Goodwill. Some kid will like it. It came with a nice case and all. It was probably top of the Samson line in its day. Just too out dated.

Thanks. I really appreciate the info. I was torn between the Line 6 and a Shure system. I wanted a pedal board type system. And being a church player WiFi does scare me a little. I ordered a the line 6 system today. Hopefully all will be well. I am sure are more up on things than I with your background. I have up the whole road game in 1990. i did local stuff until 1995 now iI just dabble from time to time and fill in if needed at church. Guitar has always been just a hobby and church thibg.

Sorry if that sounded rough. It wasn't meant to. That is one thing I hatw. It is easy to come across wrong in writing. I look at wireless along the lines of good versus bad cable. Some hear no difference between low loss hd cable ant Reverb $8.00 cables with thin shielding. If that is how a person is,then why spend big bucks just to say you have great cable. In a live situation it really is not that huge as the audience won't know a difference. But with wireless come other issues like inherited noise, interference that doesn't exist until hooked up to other devices, and even WiFi trouble. Often companies design things like a Helix and just assume there will be no issues in simple connections but reality can becdifferent
-
As a sound guy who used to do 100s of events a year I can tell you this is not the case. Especially with wireless. They can react differently with every system they are plugged into. Everything from noise, to interence. I realize wireless have gotten better since my road days but just recently I saw a new wireless brought in that could not be used with an HD400.It sounded fine into an amp but the 400 sucked every bit of tone out of it.

Sweet. I knew IRs could be made of other things but I didn't know they could actually be used in the Helix like that? I guess I do not fully understand the use with Helix.
-
No, you will not need a DI box. With Helix you can use cabinet IRs. So you could get an acoustic amp cabinet IR (someone posted a free one in a thread somewhere on hete) and possibly improve the sound. IRs are not snapshots line a Kemper Profile.
-
I was wondering if any of you are using any of the Line 6 Relay wireless systems with the Helix and how it is working out. Or even a Shure system? Do they play nice? Have there been issues? I am specifically interested in the Pedalboard systems.

Totally get the back thing at my age with health issues. I am trying to find a small workstation desk (my room is super small) that I can put the Helix under and reach/see it and sit my monitors and laptop on

What gets me is that it happens intermittently. One time it works, line all of last night, then there is now where I need to go to the phone as my iPad is flaky. It is only on the Line 6 forum. It is fine in other forums. I don't get it unless server load is somehow affecting only apple... Lol. No big deal. Just an annoyance. I did discover Opera Coast in all of this. A snappy little browser.
