  1. I have not had an issue with Helix, or any other device like my Ax8, with the Surface Pro 4 I5 processor
  2. I get to show my age and sort of go back to an earlier comment. First let me say snapshots are great. They are possibly better implemented than scenes on my AX8, though that is a discussion for another topic. The complaints have to be players that want to switch to huge complex patches within songs. The P&W scene that I am mostly involved in these days are using huge amounts of effects but with snapshots I have never had an issue accomplishing what I wanted within a song. If you talking between songs that should not ever be an issue. That is what a frontman is for. A little quick chatter while changes are made. What I see here are people wanting the unit to do things not currently possible with any technology. At least at quality levels Helix, or AX8 provide. I have not researched so this is a guess but I imagine bands like Brit Floyd that use AXFX for huge shows most likely use multiple units with midi switching similar to how we switched things in the huge racks back in the day. I would think the Helix rack would do the same but I have not had need to investigate. But how many of us can afford a pair of rack units and a controller (three if you want a backup). All of that would still be cheaper, or at least easier, than the huge racks of gear used in tube 70s and 80s.. I remember when I did the Beach Boys back in 88 that I thought we would have an easier setup, but it wasn't. They had multiple amps and fairly large delay and reverb racks . We could easily do what they did with one patch and scenes on the Helix.

    QSC K10.2

I was going to get one of those. They are nice. I opted for an EV ZLX12p. Not quite as many bells and whistles but many similar settings. like others stated monitor vs pole/stand settings make a huge difference so make sure you set accordingly.
  4. ;) I thought that was a bone.

    Tuner

I am not saying mine is as accurate as a Peterson. Obviously tuning first with the Peterson any tuber should read dead on after tuning. And as I stated there was adjustment needed after tuning first with the Helix. But it was close enough that unless you have perfect pitch you would not hear it. I should have stated that both of my Petersons do not jump around but the do spin left or right and seldom stop completely. The instructions even say it may only pause briefly. Once you get the hang it is noticeable. All I was staying was that mine tunes alright and is accurate. My son had a Helix also and had no tuning problems. I will see if o can get him to film me tuning. I can not hold the phone and tune at the same time. It is very possible there is quality control issues and some do not work. That would be no different why some have other issues we do not. The only way it would ever be looked at is if every single person with the issue fills out a support ticket. They need to see a certain percentage or became yo recreate the issue (comments from line 6 guys either can't reproduce or refuse to acknowledge issues). I guess I should not have posted this in either forum without video proof. I can't promise (my son is 28n married and has s busy job) but next time he stops by I will see if we can try to film something.
  6. I set the Timmy model up for clean a clean boost. it works fantastic. I actually used to do same thing when I had a real Tim.
  7. The converter seems too be removed which is probably because of legal implications as mentioned 3Sigma has some awesome acoustic IRs in use a tube preamp and compression and a Gibson 3Sigma acoustic IR with my Carvun AE185 and its Piezzo. it sounds very good

    Tuner

I haven't been around awhile. I'm surprised this is still going on. I posted this on another board but I did a test with the tuner about two months ago. I took a Peterson HD, Peterson headstock tuner, a Korg Pitchblack headstock tuner and 4 different guitars. First I tuned. Each guitar with the Peterson HD and then tested it with headstock tuners. Iii was just a double check to make sure I tuned correctly. Then. I tried all four guitars on the. Helix. The Helix was dead on. In fact only the g and b string jumped but sharp. Then I seriously detuned the guitars and tuned with the Helix. It actually reacts very similar to the Peterson. I tuned everything with the Helix then checked with the PETERSON. It was pretty darned close. I was a little off on a few strings but nt enough that my ears detected it. I used the same method on both tuners. Hit a string and let it ring then tune. I only hit the string again if it took to long and incident get it quick enough. Now, before people split themselves in half, all this proved to me was that the Helix tuner is accurate. It doesn't jump any more than a strobe. In fqct if you just tune by the big bar alone you re probably close enough.. it does not jump. I think that is what is messing people up so bad. You could sit there all day if you expect a Peterson to stop dead on every note. In the beginning people snapped saying it wasn't precise enough so line 6 came up with this to give people a little more control. My AX8 is much quicker but it tunes like the Korg. Accurate it is, though I noticed a couple strings need tweaked every time when checking with the Peterson. I don't think there is a fix that Line 6 can do that will please everyone. All of our guitarists in our band (rotating lineup) tune with the Helix and after a learning curve all like it. But if you are coming from a headstock or stomp box tuner you may not like it if you do not take time with it . While I like it I get the gripe.
  9. It is a Fret-King Green Label (now called STVDIO series also) Ventura 60 in Laguna Blue. The Green labels are limited run hand crafted in Trev Wilkinsons shop in the UK. Fantastic quality. They are actually cheaper than most custom shop guitars. The only company that may be cheaper are Carbon, but they are only cheaper if you do not get custom woods and tops. This color has been gone on this model (in the Green line) for awhile. This is the actual guitar pictured in the brochures when the line was first brought to the US. I helped at a shop that was one of the first Fret King/Vintage (Vintage is the brand name..sort of Fret Kings Squire but much better quality) US dealers. Maybe the first. The rep had two green labels from the brochure (the only ones in the US at that time)and the shop owner took both. This was the owners personal guitar. I was there for the unboxing. He played it twice then packed it away hoping it would become collectible. A couple years ago he had to close the shop. He asked me if there was anything I wanted to purchase before he put what was left in storage. I got this one for a steal. He gave me going out of business and friend pricing. I know. TMI
  10. This topic comes up far too often for my liking. It is no one's business if I or anyone else prefer to buy or make patches to sell. Reasons have been stated many times why people do and do not buy them. In my opinion most people who comain about it want the patches and do not want to pay for them. It has nothing to do with Community at all. The thought that people are actually upset by what others spend their money on is almost laughable and posts like these do far more to harm the community than someone selling patches does. I normally avoid confrontation in forums but this topic is old and disturbing. I thank people willing to take time to make patches to sell for those that are not able, or in my case, too lazy to spend that much time. A large number of owners are not pros and would not even know where to start in making impulse responses or have the equipment available to do so. A hobbiest will make a couple patches but could never make the quality patches. Can I do it? Yes. But why can't others buy if they want. I am sorry but these are mostly "sour grapes" post by people who do not want to pay. I have said my peace and will not respond further or even read replies. I have nothing against anyone and do respect most posts and topics but this is a non productive post that constantly comes up and quite frankly has no place on the forums
  11. I had s lot of training in my youth as well and I agree with you. I agree with the OP that everyone has a different ear. But I also think an awful lot if it is perception and often what we think we hear just is not the case. In a live situation no one is going to notice a difference in cable or wireless unless it is done cheap noisy cable or unit. Studio can be a different story. If one truly has a great ear and great equipment they can hear the difference. And for recording you want it perfect. The average person still can't truly hear the difference. If someone tells them it should be so they will perceive that they hear it when the really do not. We proved this in some of my classes years ago. There were 10 people in a class I was in and only one person in the class got it right each time. I picked out one or two but others I did not. I was actually pissed because I thought I could hear anything. I am not saying the OP doesn't notice. He ma very well be one that can hear it or this might be one area he hears. Most of us won't hear it though. I have a G50. I am fine with the tone with my Helix but we are having other issues. On three occasions it dropped in our our set and quick frequency changes did not bring it back. Luckily we had cables with in reach to do a quick fix. I really do not know what is up. It may end up a support ticket but I can't do a ticket if I can't figure it out. I can't duplicate when I try. I don't know if something is interfering like the wifi in the building or what it is. We also have a security team in radios so maybe when they key up it's knocking us off. If it is a faulty unit I would think I could duplicate it in practice. It's frustrating me because our in ears are wired so I am already tethered which I hate.
  12. Agreed. I find this whole thread hilarious. I know people get pissed when us o,d guys talk about the old days but come on people. First, the tuner in the Helix was never designed to be a bench tuner for luthiers. Look at the price of a Peterson and then figure out how much it would add to the price. I always laugh at shops that pop a guitar on the strobe and tune it up then throw it in a case. Chances are at least me if the pegs is bumped slightly so it won't be perfect when it comes out anyway. I do understand taking care of customers. The initial Helix tuner, even before the update, was accurate enough for live use. Here us we're the old days comments come in. How many of you have worked on a crew and tuned the guitars? I can not count the number of times we tuned all of the guitars to the rack unit. Then it comes to swap guitars, you hand it to the musician, he strums once or twice then starts adjusting the tuning! To many of cavy tuning just doesn't sound right. For smaller bar bands do you use the same tuners? How close are your guitars? I bet if you check most bar bands with a strobe after setup you would find that none are tuned exactly the same yet it sounds fine to the ear when blended. Very rarely someone might notice. How many times have you seen a guitarist fiddle with tuning after a song? Did you hear anything wrong? I look at the Helix tuner as a live only tuner. With the latest update it is sufficient for studio also but I bet most still use a software or rack tuner. Technology has advanced to a point where people are over picky about things like tuning. Do not get me wrong. Tuning is important but it does not need to be as accurate as a strobe. I still remember a certain guitar p,any that insisted everything be tuned slightly sharp as it was the only way it sounded right to his ear. No one listening ever noticed.
  13. I did a search (I swear forum searches are useless) but could not find n issue I am having. Is anyone getting clipping from the Vintage Digital Delay? I plan on doing a support ticket but wanted to make sure I am not doing it somehow. The Vintage Digital was one of my favorites but after the .01 patch it clips for me on the delays. I tried various adjustments and no issue. I thought about a reflash of the firmware but I sort of figure an update will appear soon as it has been awhile so I thought I would wait until then. If it is an issue need to get it reported.
  14. I still stand behind the Mono bag mentioned way back in the beginning. Sometimes you can get a deal on Amazon fir it and it offers a lot more protection than the Gator and other bags mentioned (have not looked at the Helix backpack but I hate backpacks).

    Helix Vs. AX8

I was looking at old posts out of curiosity. I would be interested in hearing the results of the original poster if this comparison was done today. The own both units. I actually find the line 6 amp models to now be on par with the AX8. In some cases better, some not so much. I have also found a number of people that hear them have a preconceived notion that AX is king and will not hear otherwise (I am sure it goes the other way at times but more prevalent for AX). It does take more time and tweaking on the Helix, but with time it's all there. I do think fractals stock IRS are a bit better, though Line 6 has decent ones. Ease of use there is no comparison for me Helix has it hands down. I can make a Helix patch that works in a few minutes. AX8 takes longer. It is fussier with memory and clips easy. It takes extra steps to adjust inputs and outputs or add a filter that prevent clipping. Do get me wrong. It isn't necessarily hard to do, just not as easy as the Helix. One plus to the AX8 are the clipping meters. It shows you where it is coming from. When you do clip the Helix it can be more difficult to track down. All in all, as the OP stated, you can't go wrong with either unit. With the updates on the Helix it should now be as easy live as well so it's all going to come down to preference.
  16. Some may disagree here (heck Thibault might disagree) but I look at these more as amazing templates. Obviously some of the second setlist are meant to be ready to fly presets, but most of the others are just amazing sounding templates that you can plug stuff in like delays, extra dirt etc. I actually think his ear is amazing and can't imagine people tweaking the eq as that is what makes his stuff great to me but to each their own. We all have different tastes, and rigs that make a difference. I highly recommend these to all new Helix users. I get the people that say to make your own but these are a great way to learn the building blocks of the unit.
  17. These are amazing. And yes, I can and do make some of my own patches. This saves me hours though. There are so many great patches that I can add an effect to tweak just a hair to suit my needs. There are a bunch I will use as is. Great stuff and well worth it
  18. Same here. I actually bought these in Church between Sunday School and the service. I probably won't start loading them until tomorrow (or maybe late tonight) since I am busy all day.
  19. My first Helix smoked the preamp the second I turned phantom power on for a mic. I won't say which mic because people always think it doesn't use phantom. It does.
  20. I can not understand how they can be muffled. I could see too brittle or too boomy (Should not be issues there either but that would be more common with various setup differences) but muffled makes no sense to me. I am sure Gkenn will get you fixed up. He is really willing to help people. Try other guitars as mentioned. Try a different speaker. If it is be same setup you used with the HD than it most likely has do with the rig.
  21. I do need to improve my IR process. I didn't worry for a long time. I just had a few presets I made that used a few. I am starting to get more that I use though and I will get Glenn Delaunes new Artist stuff the day they come out so I need to fix it up. It is starting to be a pain . Drag and drop was something I hadn't tried.
  22. I got mine almost right away. The IRS alone make It well worth it. Thanks again.
  23. Sorry about all the typos. Not even sure what I was saying in some of it. WTH
