Please Tell Us If The Pod Hd Is Getting More Updates!
stumblinman replied to GuitarGuru83's topic in POD HD
Throw some free gear at guys, give them an expert tag, and you save yourself thousands. It's a smart practice. The experts here generally do an excellent job of posting the same stuff they've had to post for years for all the newer visitors unable or unwilling to search. It's a thankless job, but for some gear and beta testing opportunities, it's probably a lot more bearable. I have to commend many of the experts for their patience. I'm not a super frequent visitor, although I usually check in once a day or so, hoping for a surprise update, but even I can parrot back some stuff these days. I'd probably just build a word document with a bunch of phrases or walkthroughs to help the newer folks, and copy and paste to save myself time. Keep it open on my desktop and BAM! Seriously though, for a JTV59 I'll answer more questions. Think about it L6. -
Why above 50 watts? Are you not micing your amp? I think a search on musiciansfriend.com would yield results that you could whittle down based on reviews or then bring a short list here and ask for opinions. Tube or solid state? 1x12 or 2x12? Using just effects from Pod, or amp modeling too?
-
There have been quite a few posts about this in the past, but it's been a while. They react like an amp would when using pedals. They are not strictly a vehicle for Pods, they work very well with separate effects pedals, both in front and in the loop.

Anyone else notice if you turn the DT off with Pod attached, even in standby there is a "chunk" noise? Doesn't happen when using the DT by itself. Just an observation.

Line 6 Should Offer Low Cost/free Upgrade From Hd To Hd-x
stumblinman replied to DeAllen's topic in POD HD
Mcdonalds doesn't advertise their products will cause obesity or high blood pressure either. Why would they highlight the downside? I've knocked Line 6 for a lot of stupid decisions, but even I think it works fairly. But then again, I don't use dual amps since I can get what I want out of one. Actually, aren't there a couple factory presets that have 8 effects and 2 amps? I'm not at home, so I can't verify. But I thought I'd come across one when I first got mine. I know I've seen screenshots of it. -
Line 6 Should Offer Low Cost/free Upgrade From Hd To Hd-x
stumblinman replied to DeAllen's topic in POD HD
I guess I haven't read enough marketing materials from Line 6. Can someone point me to an ad that states "Dual amps and 8 effects simultaneously"? Because that seems to be the crux. If there is an ad that states that, then it is fraud. If not, then it's claims are likely true. I can use dual amps, and I can use up to 8 effects. Look like the Pod works as advertised to me. -
Pod Hd Bean Clearance At Sweetwater For $199, Jtv69 For $879
stumblinman replied to stumblinman's topic in POD HD
Yep. Saw the new ones for $899. Thought I'd put the lower price to draw folks in lol. $20 isn't big enough difference to buy used though, I agree. -
Just like the JTV I posted a while ago, looks like Sweetwater is blowing out L6 gear again. Just got the email from them. JTV69 from $879 and Bean for $199. Get to shopping!

Firmware reflash perhaps?

Line 6 Should Offer Low Cost/free Upgrade From Hd To Hd-x
stumblinman replied to DeAllen's topic in POD HD
I used to have a Variax 700. I think they should give me a JTV. -
Are you playing live through an amp or into your computer? Do other presets do this? Does a different effect in that slot cause the same thing?

Just Bought A 500x And Want To Put A Blood Red Jtv On Order....
stumblinman replied to milesargall's topic in POD HD
Only way to run stereo is using L6 Link and two DT25's or 50's or the overpriced Line 6 PA stuff. -
Haha sounds like my singer. Now we just let him play guitar when he wants. No expectations but let him have a solo now and then. He's also using synths now for some of our songs. That keeps him busy.

For direct tones I put a graphic EQ at the end of my patches to fill in the weird frequency loss. It works well to fatten it back up when running in studio/direct mode. You're setting up your direct tones on the same PA at gig volume, right? I think it's humorous you say the bluesy sounds are easier to tweak. I found the chainsaw chugga chugga stuff way easier to set up. Maybe build new tones from scratch for PA. Find a high gain amp you like, put EQ knobs at noon and flip through speaker cabs until you find one with the frequencies you want to accentuate. Then pick a mic that makes that cab/amp combo more articulate. Make sure your PA is set flat and your channel is too. Then begin to tweak your EQ on the pod until it's close to what you want. Add an EQ in the last effect block and tweak your overall tone there so you have a master EQ at the end depending on venue. Hope this helps! If not, maybe it will help someone else reading this topic.

If you plan on playing out, be careful with an m5. There is a well documented issue with them resetting and not working right due to improper grounding inside the chassis. There is an easy fix, but if you take the feet off and just use Velcro to attach it to your pedalboard it could be an issue even after the fix, as the feet allow some cushioning to prevent the board from touching and shorting when you step on it. I finally retired mine as I just can't trust it live.

Output mode has a large impact on the EQ into the front input. Which mode are you using?
-
Is your amp in bridged mode? Some have a separate output in bridged and some use #1 channel. Not being familiar with that power amp, and assuming you have the volume on the Pod turned up and the volume on the amp turned up, and that your cables are good, I would check bridged mode.

No problem. Sorry I can't be more help on the Floor Pod. Never had that one so I'm not familiar with it. Good luck!

A Whole New World At Higher Volume...and A Clean Question
stumblinman replied to grandinq's topic in DT50 / DT25
Have you ever replaced the tubes? Have you ran the HD500 through a PA to see if the dirt is from your modeler or the amp itself? Are you using preamp models or full? Using L6 Link or some other method of connection? You should be able to get great cleans well up past noon. -
I remembered! Like I said, it's designed for a DT amp, but with minor tweaking it should get you on the right track. I've actually just given you the link to my customtone list, as there are two files there. Marshall Dirt is the one I was talking about. The other one is my brown sound, but I've modified it since then. If you try both and kinda like the brown one too, I will upload my newer version. Hope it helps you! http://line6.com/customtone/profile/stumblinman/

Not sure on Floor Pod plus. I would recommend checking that forum rather than the Pod HD forums. May be some help there for you. Perhaps an Expert User may pop in and give guidance?

After all of his advice, I would advise reading a tube amp building manual, or just pick an amp with a sound you like, put a compressor in front with very low impact on compression, find the spot on the drive knob with the amount of breakup you want when you really dig in on the bridge pickup, eq with amp controls to taste, then add other effects, then add an eq at the end to slightly boost the low end. I used the Plexi Brt Pre for mine. I really will try to post it for you when I get home lol. GCKelloch, your posts make my brain hurt. Seriously, I think just about every one of them does lol. Great, great input and information, but too technical for this layman who just wants TONE! \m/

I'll try to remember to post my main go-to dirt tone. Depending on your pickups it can be clean on the neck and slightly gritty to crunchy depending on how you dig in on the bridge. I use it with a DT25 but when I don't feel like hauling my amp to practice I run it studio/direct into a Kustom 12" powered monitor and it still works fairly well. Backing the volume knob off slightly will clean it up on the bridge too. I use either my LP with 57 Classic/Classic+ or a different LP with SD Vintage Blues set (Vintage 59? I think they are called). It's a little dirtier with the 57s but cleaner with the 59s due to how hot the pickups are. Of course your mileage may vary. I will try to remember.

How Do You Use Your Expression Pedal Besides Volume And Wah?
stumblinman replied to stumblinman's topic in POD HD
I have a whammy setup on my brown sound preset since I use a Les Paul without a tremolo on it. Works well for that.
