  1. I appreciate the response by Line 6. It took 4 months to exact a fix, which happens to be the second attempt. The first was done over a year ago and seems to have cut down on the problem. I hope this one cures it. That said, I do believe we have more in store for the Pod HD series. If they haven't announced "no further updates" then I will continue to hope. Thanks again for fixing what can be a painful and equipment-damaging bug.
  2. Do you want folks to do multiple takes with different settings to make sure they find a sweet spot for your ears? How much distortion do you want? Saturation, crunchy, or mild? Which cabinet/speaker combo are you a fan of? Any particular mic you would like? Preamp or full amp model? Bias settings you prefer? Cab DEP's? It's a slippery slope you are treading. Hit YouTube and you can probably hear enough clips to help you decide.
  3. I constantly tweak too, Brazzy. Now, in response to OP: I am not a fan of the 800, but that doesn't mean it can't sound great in someone else's hands. Everyone has different guitars, fingers, cables etc. If I'm going for a more overdriven British tone, I simply use the Soldano models with an EQ in front because I find them easier to work with and they have a more pleasant tone to me. I won't make you a JCM800 sound clip, because A: I don't have a soundcloud account B: I play music in front of people, not in front of my computer, so any patches I make WILL sound terrible if I go direct and C: you didn't say the magic word. Buy a Pod, try it, return if you don't like. Better do it fast before Guitar Center goes under!
  4. Everything above, plus the upgrade uses the included USB cable, not midi, so that's a fairly simple process. Don't fret.
  5. I believe the video shows a guy cleaning an x3 live, but switches are identical. I had to do it to my fs1 a couple months ago.
  6. Sounds like a sticky switch. There is a good video on YouTube about how to clean the switches.
  7. I have used a few suggestions from this post since I started it. There are some very imaginative guys on this forum.
  8. Yes, there has been a lot of discussion about this in the past. It seems like some days I hear it and other days I don't. A few firmware upgrades ago, I did a reflash and it went away. I've had it show up these days on my newer patches, but not on older ones I've built before the latest update. I blame it on the digital nature of modeling. When playing alone I can hear it some, but with the band it's unnoticeable.
  9. You may want to download the update onto your computer instead of letting monkey download it during the update. Also, try a different USB port. These are usually two things to try first.
  10. To use the amp reverb, just select the reverb model you want by using the DT edit program for channel A, then turn the reverb knob up on the amp until you get the amount you want.
  11. Yes. This happens quite a bit actually. If you've ever read meambobbo's guide on the HD, he talks about that very scenario, and I believe he uses it to his benefit. You are not crazy, my friend.
  12. No, it only works properly with an expression pedal with a 10k pot in it. There are a few out there that will work, but the exp2 jack is not an audio input and cannot be manipulated by a standard wah/volume pedal.
  13. I guess it depends on where you would have it in a normal effects chain. If you need it after your dirt, which you are getting from an effect in the pod, then you'd use the fx loop for it. If you run it first in your chain normally, then in front of the pod is fine. The mix parameter and adjusting the max/min of the wahs can actually make them quite usable. I prefer the Vetta wah myself, with min of 20ish, max of 75ish and a mix of about 70 or so. At work now, so I can't look at my Pod obviously. But that sounds familiar.
  14. There was another thread about this a while ago. It was concluded that that's the way the models are. I am at work and don't have time to search, but it was a fairly recent thread in here.
  15. My favorite part of the new firmware is choosing the reverb I want and assigning it to the amp to free up the fx slot and DSP from the Pod.
  16. Congratulations on your new purchase, but I can't believe you'd choose a DT over a Shiva. May your new gear serve you well!
  17. Probably longer than the Pod it's installed in. For the record, I leave mine on. It's far less distracting than most stage lighting.
  18. I'd say get the 25. It's plenty loud and has newer engineering to fix some niggles folks had with the 50. If you are running a Shiva and quality pedals and guitars, you may be "satisfied" with the dream rig, but you won't be "impressed". I would honestly stick with your current gear unless you are looking for something to allow you to keep your quality gear at home. Then just get the Pod and DT and avoid the Variax portion.
  19. I have an old midi/usb cable lying around. Maybe I should try this to see if it works the wrong way instead of the right way. Such a weird thing, but makes sense at the same time. I work in industrial instrumentation and process control, and I've always thought it was odd that we had analog input cards that actually read an output from a transmitter, and analog output cards that send a signal to an input on a valve positioner. It's all a matter of perspective....

    No Sound

Sounds like a bad flash. Try to update the flash memory again and see if that fixes it.
  21. Same here. I've used both, but the extra time it takes to stomp the channel up/down button and THEN find my patch button is too long live.
  22. Yep, I grabbed two during the last blowout. One is in my FX loop on my Pod for an acoustic simulator and the other I use in front for whatever I need. It's currently set up as tremolo. I'm very happy with them both for $80 total.
  23. I have had more issues with shipping from Sweetwater than with any other online music retailer. I live in Washington, and we are one of a few states that it's required to collect sales tax on online purchases. MF and a few others charge the sales tax, but Sweetwater doesn't for some reason. I will only buy from them now on a big-ticket item because their shipping has screwed me several times. Plus, the turnover rate of sales engineers is irritating. I think I'm on my 4th one. They are like GameStop employees but sell music gear instead. On the plus side, my kids love to see their packages on the porch because it means CANDY!
  24. Exactly what happened to mine. Don't trust JJ's in my DT anymore.
  25. As noted in the title. I have an Electro-Harmonix 12ax7 lying around, and wondered if anyone had messed with the phase inverter tube much and noticed a difference in tone. Thanks.
