not sure why the amps are repeated in the amp list
stumblinman replied to lipsucnt's topic in POD HD
If you look closely, you will see the second set labeled as "pre". These are preamp only models and don't contain the power amp modeling parameters such as bias excursion, sag, hum etc because they don't affect the preamp. Some of the pre models actually sound very nice. Try them out and see what you think. -
I gig "seriously" and edit my HD500(x) on the floor all the time. I'm picky about my tone since it's not buried in distortion and I want the mix to sound it's best out front. Amplifi is a toy for bedroom/casual players to compete with Fender's Mustang line, including the mustang floor. Jack up the price a little by adding the Bluetooth connectivity and full range "stereo" speaker setup and let the cash roll in. I'd buy the 150 for playing music through, but that's about it.

For some folks. I wasn't happy at all with JTV after using it for a week or so. Still sounded phony and honky to me. But I'm a heavier-handed player so the piezos honked on me a lot even when I "lightened up" my pick attack. I don't play heavy music, but I do dig into my strings when I play.

How did the repair go? Was it as straightforward as it seemed? -
Brand-new HD500X ... huge volume differences between presets
stumblinman replied to bobwilken's topic in POD HD
This is how I level my patches too, much to the chagrin of my wife, kids, dog, neighbors, photos on the walls, stuff on my garage shelves... It really is the only way to get it right though. My wife sure gets tired of hearing me play the same riffs over and over to compare them lol. -
Don't use it at all. But I think it should stick around.

Amp Wish List For The Next Update (whenever That Is)

It IS an investment: Time, money, and effort are all invested in it to accomplish what you want. No wrist slap needed. It's like everything else, you get out what you put in. If I didn't have one and was looking at what's out there, I would have bought it again. Price/performance it's unbeatable.

New features for the Pod HD lol.... that's a good one!

Some things just don't play nice together. I would quit agonizing over it and move on.

Sorry to hear of your frustration. Your post will get past the mods, obviously, because I was able to read it. They only censor for abuse of other members here pretty much, so venting and criticism of quality or compatibility is definitely ok. If you want support and suggestions for solutions to your issues, your best bet is to break it up into a list of specific issues and create "question" threads, and the folks here will help you suss them out. Welcome aboard, and I hope we can make your gear work better for you.

There's actually several posts on this board about switch issues on the 500x. How many are attributed to board issues and how many are strictly switch issues has not been quantified.

1. Maybe 2. If they will let you use 2 inputs then go for it. 3. Depends on your amp and reverb choices. 4. There is no question 4. 5. See answer to number 3. It's a great unit, but not right out of the box. It will take some time to get proficient with it, but the rewards are great if you invest the time. There's a ton of worship patches available on customtone. Download a few and try them out. You can also view them in the edit program before you ever buy a Pod just to see what people typically use for worship. Good luck!

If you haven't pulled the chassis out to bias the tubes when you changed them, then I'm not too surprised you've had the second set fail prematurely. It's not that difficult to pull the chassis out. There's a little glue that generally makes it a little tough to remove, but if all the screws are removed it should wiggle loose.

I think I have an Orange emulation I was working on that uses full model instead of just preamp. I've done it a few times actually. I think I have a clean Marshall set up that way too. I just do what sounds best and if it takes a full model instead if a pre, so be it.

Which of the PODHD overdrives do you use for glassy transparent drive?
stumblinman replied to GazzaBloom's topic in POD HD
I use it before the Pod. It's great for a little extra kick into the amp models. Usually run volume around 11:30, tone around noon and drive around 9. I actually bought 2 to use differently, but my singer wanted to borrow one about 2 months ago or so and I haven't seen it since lol. -
Mine is the same on all patches: FS1 distortion/OD FS2 lead/solo boost FS3 mod FS4 delay

I just replaced my PI in my DT25. First time in 3 years or so. Was starting to crackle and hiss. I have a crappy unlabeled 12ax7 in there now while I wait for my JJ's to arrive. Then I'll pop one in and feel more secure.

If you search 4cm on this board there are a billion posts. One or two are particularly useful and they are easy to track down. You will have to adjust the volume levels to make it play nice, but once done it is "set and forget". Make a blank template with the fx loop levels set up right and then you can create all the 4cm setups you want.

I've actually had my best result "in-pod" with the screamer. Gain at 10, bass, tone and treble at max, output at 70-90 depending on what I'm going for. That said, I use my EHX Soul Food pedal almost exclusively. But what I stated above works very well for me pushing an almost clean amp into that touch sensitive dirty zone, and can push the SLO overdrive channel to sound brown. You can back the bass and treble off a little if need be, but something about maxing that tone knob and pushing the output really sounds great live. -
My JJ's died quickly and catastrophically too. I learned my lesson and stick with EH in my DT25. JJ's work great in every other amp I've owned. Don't know why, but seems to happen that way.
-
Too bad it doesn't work with the DT25 this way. If it does I can't figure out how. I'll have to use the volume pedal trick to make it work I think.

I'm not dismissive. I just don't play strat so I can't help with the tone. But after watching the video, I was grinding my teeth trying to ignore that goofyass look on his face. So that's what I commented on. I can appreciate the tone for what it is, but sadly cannot help. I think my comments were almost as dismissive as you talking about blues and drop tuners. Touché!

I don't know about his tone, but the look on his face makes me want to punch him lol.

Not to hijack this thread, but how's the balance on it? Not a lot of wood for the body, so wondering if it does the SG-style neck/headstock dive.
