  1. @cruisin: It happens when I have my hands clear of the adjacent string. It seems to be a tone from the bridge as it can be heard even in the mags. @charlie: I'd read about the foam above the nut. Some folks used a hair scrunchie. I think I may restring and put electrical tape on the bridge where the ball-ends of the strings are secured. If that doesn't help then I may just pack it in. Too expensive to have to fix their issues.
  2. edstar, #2 seems like it would be the most effective. I changed the string and it's better, but still slightly there. I will do a full string change soon and do it to all of them and see if it helps. It's definitely related to the bridge.
  3. I think I may end up returning this 59 after all. There's a strange harmonic "ping" or "tang" sound on the low E string, especially on the frets from 5 down to open string. Very harsh and digital sounding. Extremely noticeable on the single coil tones, but even shows up on the humbucker models as well. You can actually hear it a little even with the mags, so I can only assume it's something with the piezo saddle and bridge. Sympathetic vibrations? Voodoo? Anyways, I can't imagine playing this thing live and having that sound assaulting the audience. Suggestions before I make the short drive to Guitar Center to return it would be great. Guitar plays like a dream with no fret buzz, but man, I can't take that sound. Even my wife can hear something is weird with it. I'm going to change the E string and see if that helps and look the saddle over while I have it apart, but if you guys have had this issue or heard of it, please shoot me some links or suggestions. I found a lot of issues with folks with the 69, but not much with the 59. Thanks.
  4. I own enough guitars to know that humbuckers are louder. So thanks for the insight other guys. The non-helpful posts aside, I agree that the levels are too far off to be correct. No other models on the guitar even push dirt and the Lester is full on crunch. Especially if it's modeling a 59 with PAF's, that's excessive. Some difference is expected, but even the other humbucker guitars are strat-volume level. Maybe slightly higher, but not much. They are still in a different world from the Lester. I think it's more a matter of the other models being voiced too quiet obviously, but how can a freshly flashed guitar be so far off? Maybe a reflash will help, as the #3 position acoustic sounds odd too. The guitar plays really well, but I still haven't fallen in love with the modeling aspect.
  5. Title says it all. Output from Lester is almost equivalent to the mags, but every other model in the guitar is much quieter. Significantly quieter. I see someone posted a volume-leveled bundle on that Variax page stickied up above. Anyone used it? If so, opinions? Worth installing to fix the variances? I'm sure I will be hooking the JTV up to the computer this weekend to fiddle with some models, but if that bundle saves me time it's worth it. I'm at work now, so planning my weekend while I can't play. Thanks guys. I'm on 2.0 firmware too also.
  6. Mine arrived today too. Best playing guitar I've ever owned. Flawless finish, perfect low action with no fret buzz, and amazing tones from mags and models. I take it all back lol.
  7. There are no hard and fast rules. 4 cable method is the most flexible, but nobody says you have to. Also, if you like studio/direct, use it. That's why the 500 is so handy: it's flexible, powerful, and as complex or simple as you make it.
  8. There's no power coming from the guitar if the battery is out and the 1/4" is used. How could there be any A/D conversion?
  9. Sweetwater would not match. I ended up ordering one through Guitar Center, but had it shipped to store so I could open it right there in front of them and make my decision. They had cherry in stock, but I wanted tobacco. I was deadset against buying one, but with a Les Paul scale at that price I had to complete my dream rig. I'm a hypocrite!
  10. That's how I do it, buy matched quad for quick swap should one fail during a show.
  11. You can match any topology with any amp model using DT edit. You can also change the topology of the hd500 model running into the DT by changing the switch on the amp while the Pod is connected. You can mix em up, which I do, as it gives me sounds I want, or leave them true to the models. It's great to have choices.
  12. It is 2 channel footswitchable, 8 channels available. You are both right.
  13. Glad to hear it. Amp stands are a must. Always wondered how I got by without one for so long lol.
  14. Time for a tube change. If you've had a fuse blow for no apparent reason and you are hearing humming, get those power tubes changed ASAP. I had the same issue.
  15. If it's recently started, I would lean towards eminent tube issues. Unless your amp has been subjected to abuse recently. Any difference between class a or a/b?
  16. It is super quiet. You're almost better off micing. I tried it a few times, but was much happier with the tone and volume throwing an sm57 in front of the speaker. It's fine to use it, but you may be happier with a mic.
  17. Be careful the magnet is not too large if you have a combo. I couldn't fit my Eminence Swamp Thang in the combo because it's a 150W speaker with a large magnet, which makes the metal supports stick out farther. Can't put the amp chassis back in, the front would hit the speaker frame before it was all the way in place. Just something to be aware of.
  18. I use the Pod HD500/DT25 combo in my band as well. I currently only use it with a single cab as I have the combo, not the head. I play both lead and rhythm and it's perfect for both. I did use a second cab for a while, but since we mic our amps anyways it was just extra stuff to haul, as the DT was plenty loud for hearing myself and adding to volume in the room. I've heard from others on the board that the extension cab fits the combo perfectly as far as stacking. It will be louder than single speaker because you are pushing more air. Can't say I noticed a tone difference between running multiple speakers or just a single. I'm sure there is some? The open backed cab is on the floor, so the lows lost are not as noticeable as they would be if they were the top speaker. There are multiple speaker jacks on the back, and the internal speaker is connected by a 1/4" plug into the 8 Ohm jack on the back. No harm if you choose to disconnect it and use a different cab. L6 link is great. Works well for a simple hookup. I own and run all our sound and light gear for my band, so my rig is so simple I do everything else first, lights, PA and cables, then when everything is set up, I open my pedalboard, plug in my power strip, hook up my L6 link cable, and power on my stuff. Set the mic in front of the amp, play a few riffs for sound check, and my rig is done. Simple as can be. Hope these answers help. Don't hesitate, buy it.
  19. I think it's a blend between FRFR and regular amp. So you can use it for acoustics, vocals, or guitars.
  20. A cocked wah works well. Assign one to a footswitch instead of the expression pedal, and adjust the sweep position until you get the "honk" you are looking for. I'd start with the crybaby.
  21. I had one too before I went through 2 other amps before the DT25. It fits his req's though. Rugged, reliable, and loud. Straight into the effects return it gives you just what you want: lots of clean volume.
  22. Buy a fender frontman 212. 100 watts, inexpensive, with an effects loop.
  23. If you aren't using the FX Loop on the Pod, then just go straight out of the 1/4" output. You need to add an effects block assigned as FX Loop if you intend to use the loop on the Pod. If you are doing 2 cable method, you don't even need the Pod's effects loop. Just go: Guitar>Pod HD input>Pod HD 1/4" out>Fx loop return on amp. Be sure to set output mode to "Line" if bypassing the front end of the amp and just going into the fx loop.
  24. It was meant sarcastically obviously. I have been lurking the forums long enough before actually joining to realize how much you guys do help. You have to be a certain type of person to do what you guys do. Kinda like being an umpire. You have no vested interest other than trying to do right by the guidelines you are given. You get your own opinions and your own judgment, but you are still bound by rules and regulations. Both sides may not be happy with you, and chances are the ones outside the field are gonna yell at you a lot, but you do it because you enjoy it. That said, tell us how long you've been beta testing the new "reinvention of the amp". ;)
