This is what I ran into. They said they had the part but wouldn't sell it to me because their margin is higher on labor than on parts. $75 bench fee plus $75/hr labor to install an $8 part.

You live in Portland Oregon? Shops here are ridiculous too. Can't help though. Good luck!

Amp master volume controls how hard you push the power tubes. Channel/Pod master volume controls the volume of the preamp section. When playing out I turn DT master up and pod master down for best tone. For practice I do the opposite to keep from pushing tubes too hard. May not matter in the long run, but it's what I do.

Did you switch the in/out cables? Just a thought. Sometimes they end up backwards.

Playing Live... Using Amp Modeling When Playing With A Guitar Amp?
stumblinman replied to theguitarzan's topic in POD HD
This sort of scenario is exactly why I quit playing on my worship team.. It's not a "performance". You are supposed to be invisible and aiming the congregation towards God. When these churches turn it into a 'performance" and are not accommodating, as a Christian organization should be, they put off an aura of "we just need butts in the seats". If the sound crew at a megachurch can't plug a freaking XLR direct out of a Pod into the board instead of some cockamamie scheme through 1/4" adapters, then they are obviously inexperienced, lazy, or just stupid. Being "on the charts" simply means you are using God's name for profit. I'm quite sick of the worship community profiting from writing songs and claiming it is purely their heart for God. If it takes you years to get in, then that's quite exclusive for a church as well. Come as you are, you will be loved. Now that my rant is over, let me clarify: Going direct from XLR to FOH is simple. Your sound person actually may appreciate that more than dealing with amps Second: I use a DT25 for performance and at my house for solo practice with my HD500. My sounds actually translate very well when doing Studio/Direct. This differs with other amps as they have different preamps, but you can definitely get some very useable tones into your Mesa. Plug it directly into input of effects loop and see what comes of it. Good luck! -
Not necessary, but is worth it in my opinion just for those times you want to play somewhere and not bring an extension cord for your Pod and all that jazz. Load the amps you want into the DT and grab and go. Heck, buy a cable at guitar center, update it and pick your 8 amps, and then return the cable.

I don't get this with my HD500, but I have gotten it previously with other gear.
-
That's a good starting place. Set your output settings in the Pod menu to combo-front so you have some extra EQ tweaking available and start testing amps. It's a great product, and you will find a ton of helpful guys around here to help you along while you learn. Rock on!

The single effect family limit on the 400 is what drives most people to the 500. It may be worth the extra cash to get what you want. I almost pulled the trigger on a 400 until I read about that very same issue so I went 500. Worth considering.

There are two fuses. One below the power plug and a smaller round fixture labeled tube protection fuse. Have you checked both? I'm guessing the smaller round fuse blew. This is generally a sign of a bad power tube.
-
Glad it helped. I don't think I have mine set the same in any 2 patches. It's all to taste. I also usually put it before any dirt boxes instead of after.

I like the update. Set my DT master volume where I want it and adjust overall volume with master on HD500. Very useful feature for a live player like me that hates having to run to his amp to make an adjustment that he can't hear because he's directly in front of his amp instead of out where the stage sweet spot is. Great update, and I appreciate it.

My personal favorite wah-wah is any adult in the Charlie Brown cartoons. That said, I usually use the Vetta wah, toe position 75ish, heel 20ish, mix 83ish. Can't remember exactly, as I change it a little depending on the amp and effects in the chain. Usually gives a good vocal sweep without too harsh or too muffled extremes.

I've only used the LCD interface for tones, besides saving set lists etc. I've never done tweaking using HD Edit. My gear isn't normally near my computer, so the idea of hauling my Pod and DT25 into another room to make sounds is folly. Looks like I will have to hook it up again to my computer for the new firmware though. A set list backup wouldn't be a bad idea as well.
-
I will have to download the new firmware for my 500. I like the idea of the Pod master volume being adjustable now. Thanks L6!

So where do you allocate the manpower? The new product or the old one? What's the ratio of dedication? How much do you spend before you write off the old one and completely concentrate on the new? That team working on updating the old one? They could be getting your new product to the market faster. Which path has the greatest payoff?

And watch your current revenue drop to zero during your capital-intensive development stage? Not a chance. Suicide by honesty.

I find I like the treadplate with topology III. I think my plexi uses IV. You can really make the models stand out by changing cabs and topologies. Completely changes the EQ voicing. Great post!

If your new tubes test out at a lower voltage, they should last just fine. It's when they test higher than spec that you would see early failure. I had to put in 2 mismatched tubes to get by a month or so ago, so my voltage on one tube was 19 and the other was 28 just to get them close enough without individual bias pots. Sounded fine, but I pulled them as soon as my matched tubes arrived.
-
Buy a matched quartet, install one pair and bias. Take the other pair and keep them with you at gigs so you can swap without hassle should a problem arise. Keep your original tubes as emergency backups to your backups.

Can A Blown Power Tube Or Tubes Cause Damage To My Dt50 Head?

His disposition and exposition is missed. -

looks like you got both in the picture. The other is a 5A 250V slo blo below the plug. That's the one that blew when one of my power tubes went south. -

The fuse ratings are on the back of the amp near the fuse holders. There is potential for a failed tube to damage an amp, but you really just have to trust that the fuse will blow before damage can occur. -
12oclock from what I've been told.

Meambobbo's tones aren't tweaked for playing live through an amp. His are designed for frfr playback or direct recording.
