  1. Check tube v6, as I believe that's the effects loop return tube. Throw a spare in and see if it goes away.
  2. With a master volume and 4cm it can be quiet enough or loud enough. I'm just giving an idea that will allow him to stay within budget and fit any need he might have for future rock gigs. That's a lot of tube watts for not a lot of money.
  3. I'm quite sure that's the case. The X series show an obvious slant in that direction with the Live versions coming out (I believe) simultaneously but still maintained studio roots. The HD series debuted without a desktop model available. Pretty clear sign. Besides, who cares what an artist records with in the studio? You gain more credibility on the live side. How many people ran out and bought an old Fender Champ so they could capture that overdriven studio tone famous on many rock albums? Some, but very few. It originally sold as a cheap starter amp until someone cranked it up and heard the beast within. It's a great amp for that purpose. The big advertising exposure and market credibility comes when an artist is photographed onstage with that Line 6 logo on the floor or behind them on their amp or even on the venue's PA. That's more of what Line 6 seems interested in.
  4. Are you playing out at shows, or just at home? Spend $400 on a regular pod hd500 and spend the rest on a decent low wattage tube amp such as Bugera V55 since it has an fx loop, is less than $500 and has enough wattage to play out if you need to. It also has a pentode/triode switch to drop wattage for quieter playing. There are plenty of other amps to choose from, this is just one suggestion. Unless you are crafting elaborate studio tones, you don't NEED the extra DSP. I'd save the $100 and maybe buy some pedals with it. Good luck!
  5. I haven't had this issue, but I consistently hook up and boot up the same way every time: 1: connect L6 link to amp 2: connect L6 link to HD500 3: power on HD500 4: power on DT amp All my knobs on DT are set to 0 except channel A reverb which I keep at about 9 o'clock. Volume knob set according to venue. Not sure what is considered "proper procedure" by Line 6, but this order has never failed me. I have a DT25.
  6. With the next firmware, I expect us to be able to hook our Pod HD's up to our car and read error codes.
  7. Really? They'd charge you for it after you beta tested them? Wow..
  8. http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2057
  9. Install line 6 monkey and connect your pod with a USB cable. Should be easy to find the procedure on this site. I'll look around and maybe someone will beat me to it, but I'll post it when I find it.
  10. How about a Dumble or Bad Cat or Victoria? Any model would be fine. I wouldn't mind a 5150, but there's enough high gain amps already there. If they are working on effects updates, they sure aren't going to give them away for free. I'm guessing we will see a new multifx pedal before we see new fx in the HD line.
  11. Just curious: Did you do a flash memory update after you bought it? Or has it been updated at all? What version firmware are you running? I had a weird issue with mine a few years ago after an update that sounded about the same. Something might have been corrupted during the install. I had a lot of high frequency fizz/artifacts even on clean tones and low gain models. I reflashed and it went away. Just a thought. Back up your tones if you want to make sure they are safe before reflashing. Good luck!
  12. Nope, still the same poor lollipop design. L6 engineers are a strange lot. They seem very intelligent about modeling and effects, then do dumb stuff like the power plug design on the HD500 and the poor circuit board layout on the M5 that causes it to short out and reboot if you step on both buttons. Documented grounding issue, dig around the M series forums and they give a simple fix. In my line of work, I work with engineers almost daily, and most of them have this "it works on paper" attitude. Implementation is what matters. But then again, if they make a little extra coin on accessories when this stuff breaks...
  13. If you decide to sell it, hit me up. I'd like a backup to leave at our practice space.
  14. When I'm stuck in the "no mans land" that is the L6 information cycle, I will take a small morsel of a carrot over nothing. I also don't really care, as my 500 does everything I need for my gigs. A few vids of my tone can be seen at www.youtube.com/user/JDandtheHangovers I'm quite happy with my tone and new amps would just make me start over lol. If you watch them, forgive my drunken singing please. I'm the guy with the red LP.
  15. I'm not one to run to the rescue of the Experts here, but even I see that as splitting hairs. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) all he was trying to say is that it is a show of continued support for the HD line. He also dangled the carrot that there are updates on the way. At least that's what I read from it. YMMV.
  16. This is coming from a L6 Expert, so he probably already knows what's coming. Assault him with multiple questions! ;)
  17. I kinda figured. Beauty of a setup though!
  18. I'm just busting your chops. He's just got a terrible ear for tweaking his tone. I've set it up for him twice and he loves it until he starts making adjustments and loses it.
  19. That's funny. My other guitarist uses a Nova into an Egnater Renegade and he complains my tones with my HD500 and DT25 beat his by a mile. Got any pointers for him?
  20. Everything you say is correct Dean. I am a gigging musician that needs a ton of sounds that I can integrate with other pedals I own without needing to spend extra for a MIDI pedal to make it work. I looked at the Eleven Rack and still continue to do so, but I'm not a computer rock star. I play live, though amps and mic'ed through PA, so for MY needs, my HD500 and DT25 fit the bill perfectly.
  21. +1 I bought mine knowing full well the limitations and benefits. For $500 nothing could touch the HD500 in terms of practicality AND tone. It's a sturdy (generally speaking, power plug and USB excluded), feature-filled tone box with a ton of flexibility. I'm not butthurt that they came out with an updated (slightly) version for the same coin. If I had bought it a month ago I'd be bummed, but I'd talk to my music retailer to return it. If you've had yours for years, you have no reason to gripe. I don't hear iPhone users complaining when a new one comes out. Either they keep what they have, or they shut up and buy the newest toy if it matters that much. Get over it.
  22. Do you play out live with this rig? If so, you should find a way to protect that power plug for the HD at the top of your rig. Just a word of advice from a gigging musician that's already replaced one. Nice kit though!
