Did you Try the Factory Reset I posted above....The Master Volume is NOT an analog control...I would urge you to Try the Factory Reset...IF your firmware is actually an older version that was before the Factory Reset was a feature, you simply update the firmware to reset... Really stinks you have all those issues....

chain might be too hot....turn down the channel volume....The FX model distortion the same way if you ran too much signal thru the real one....If you are tinkering with the 5150, I would suggest you drop the Master DEP down to around 28-30% and channel volume around 50-60%....Turning the RES parameter down on the cab model helps with this also....If you turn the master DEP down and what you are not liking goes away, that is modeled crossover distortion...I think the master DEP is too high on the 5150....at least for my taste...

It's an "Old School" looper....and it takes some practice to get under this one....If you don't have good meter AND good foot coordination to start AND set the loopback point, you will likely get frustrated with overdubbing...If you mess up, you basically have to start all over again...at least I do...and I only used it for my own practice an entertainment now and then....I do use it to tweak patches... There isn't any quantizing as you have to set the exact start and end...If you want to change tones, you have use the looper post...if you want to tweak, you have to use the looper pre....I have never overdubbed in pre...never saw any point to doing that....

I played with my looper(in post full volume) last night and I am not having any sort of leveling issue at all (HD Bean on 2.62)...However, I only use single amp tones and my input configuration has the second input disabled....I do not think the post looper works very well for dual tones at all....It is a utility looper that is great as a PRE looper for tweaking tones and volume leveling and the post looper is ok for some personal practice....It's not a live-performance level looper IMHO....just a nice little utility...

That actually might be true....come to think of it, I have never measured the plate voltage in LVM mode....duh....That would be a pretty easy way tp find out if the plates are getting starved in LVM....If they are, then I tend to think the tubes would last a bit longer....

Do you have a tremolo on your guitar? I have had the springs cause some reverb on hotter patches with my S540 and my strat....A little silk hanky on the springs can help that if that is a cause....You can isolate that by using a New Tone patch with no amp or FX and see what your dry guitar sounds like....this is just a guess and nothing more.... Only other thing I could think of checking might be your DT settings in the 500....you made sure both reverbs were dead? and you are using the Link?
-
I never said that was the only difference....just that it's the primary difference....THe OP never mentioned a 500, so I figured his trouble is with the amp itself and scoped my response in regards to the amplifier itself.. tubes being used some?....That's a better way to put it as you initially said the tubes were NOT used, which is what was the reason for my post ...Believe it or not, there are some folks that think the DT changes into a solid-state power amp in LVM mode.... The speakers are 100% powered by the power tubes in either mode....In LVM the tubes are running cold and the FULL model helps out with that by restoring some power section vibe...The FULL model also helps the direct out since the direct switches to 100% modeled instead of the hybrid output that comes from the output transformer when LVM is off...

You did not ask, but here it is anyway...enjoy while you are looking things over and I hope you narrow it down! :D The following is what will happen if you add a BBE to your rig... "Just a word of warning. Maximizers are the guitar gear equivalent of crack. The experience one goes through is identical: 1. The first hit: You hook it up and initially think "Oh MY GOD this the greatest thing EVER DOOOOOD!!!!!111!!!!1! I've found THE tone!" 2. You start using on a regular basis: Buy some model BBE, hook to rig, engage it 100% of the time. Rewrite all your patches. 3. You try to get your friends hooked: Dude, check out my rig, this thing takes it over the top!!!. 4. You go into addiction/denial: Friends think your tone has gone to sh*t but you think it is totally awesome. You start talking msinformed BS about different sound frequencies traveling at different velocities (hint: violation of Newtonian physics). 5. There is an intervention: Friend let's you A/B his non-maximizer rig versus yours in live setting, Yours sounds like over-processed dung, his rocks. He tells you, as a Bro, the BBE must go. You realize the BBE is a band aid for guitar tone and not even a good one at that. 6. You go into rehab: Another "like new" BBE xx2 unit hits eBay. 7. Regret: I wasted a sh*tload of time futzing with my rig, patches, etc, and my tone isn't any better and I'm back to square one. I Wonder what GE-7 pedals are going for these days. Maybe you should avoid the whole thing. If you must post-process your modelling tone I would strongly suggest an EQ. It's much more versatile and will be long usable after the BBE is gone." - kdog circa 2005-6 I think...my favorite post ever about BBEs...

Give the factory reset a shot... DT Amplifier Factory Reset As mentioned in the above sections, when customizing any settings via MIDI, your changes remain “saved†internally on the DT amplifier. This includes changes made to the preamp and power amp per Voicing switch value, Reverb and more. To return all settings back their factory default state, you’ll need to perform a “Reset†of the DT amp. To perform the Reset, start with the DT amplifier powered “Off,†then simultaneously hold the Voicing toggle switch DOWN and the Pentode/Triode toggle switch UP while powering the amp “On.†Continue to hold these toggle switches in this position until you see the Voicing “I†indicator light up (this takes about 15 seconds). The DT factory default settings are then fully restored and your DT amp is ready to play.

That is NOT correct...>The tube power section is used in both modes....The primary difference is that the amp models change from PRE with LVM off to FULL with LVM on because the power amp does not color as much with LVM mode on...

There are a couple. The primary reason is that the TRS Jack holds the plug more firmly than a TS...The other is a wiring convenience...I am a bit anal about how I wire a passive guitar as I like to make sure the ground is utilized and always paired with the hot path...the pairs are twisted (foil shielded where it's feasible to do it)...mainly it's the primary output wires to the jack that are 5 inches or longer depending on the guitar and I used twisted pair shielded to the jack since the output wires are usually leaving the shielded cavity for a bit...It just gives me two terminals for connecting the shield drain wire and the ground wire...no need to short the ring to the sleeve since the plug sleeve on the guitar lead does that...

Even with the MK2 disconnected this still happens? IF so, I would think the pro needs service...If only with the MK2 connected, I would tend to suspect the tap button on the pedalboard...either way, it seems like this might be hardware...

Well, the looper is one way but that can be a little difficult without using a single source (speaker)....Here is a decent article on the subject...You just have to apply a few of the principals and you can get some decent results....But you generally have to make some compromises to get it good...But there are great benefits to doing it...generally this applies more to recording, but the guidelines can be useful here because the issue with the looper is stereo to mono translation... http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-achieve-good-translation-in-your-mixes--audio-1139

Thank you...I should clarify...My bean was showing USB FW: 0.00 after I had updated firmware with USB connected, but before I reset the global vars...I reset global vars and it then reported correct...USB connected the whole time...

Yes indeed...Select the Amp Button on the patch and turn it off...The Channel Volume turns into the Bypass Volume...This is a Per Patch Setting...

are you sure that the lead wasn't partially out of your guitar? I have had older strat TS jacks go bad and do something like that...That is why I use TRS jacks now....or a cable go bad....or perhaps pulled partway out....I would check all the cables first...make sure all the contact surfaces are nice an clean...

My HD Desktop has been running 2.62 just fine...

It has been a while since I spun up a bank of patches to use for looping...But I have done it and I could get the patches close on a post looper....The main thing I found was that putting the pans up center and the mixer or channel vol until I could get the levels to match live vs loop for each patch I want to use...It's a little counter intuitive, but I found running the volume level of the chain a bit lower that I normally would to drive an amp helped a bit as I recall....Also make sure that the looper is set to full volume...Basically, you have to make sure that your stereo patches translate to mono pretty well...some stereo effects can result in cancellation when it is summed mono in the looper and cancellation reduces the recorded volume....I would not even attempt using the looper with dual-tone patches... I do have a Desktop, so it might be that the 500 is a bit different.

Cherry Picking Amps and/or FX is a fantastic idea and believe me that Line 6 has long known about that idea and I am sure that will not soon forget it... My opinion is that the problem at this time is that the embedded HD hardware just can't support it...I don't know specifics, but I have been a software/firmware engineer for many years and my suspicion is that is simply a matter of processing power vs the dev time to do it on lesser hardware...If you get down to a granular level like that and the security code required to do it elegantly, it is most likely that the hardware capacity jsut isn't there to pull it off in a way that would be on par with their expectations of the product or it would drive the price point too high to put the dev time into doing it....I am only guessing....Still a great idea....

You cannot get away with not doing a global reset on this update....On the bean, one indication of you can see that will indicate that you need to will be if you see USB FW: V0.00 on Setup Page 1 with USB connected....I would also recommend that you backup your patches with Edit and totally wipe and restore you patches afterwards...Model Packs seems to be a bigger change...I have been using the update and so far so good...I double checked my Monkey View just now and it looks like all is available.

In that case....Gas should be free too...After all, I just spent $40K on it....
-
There are a couple of things that can cause it....The primary thing is that the looper is mono...It's not really a performance level looper IMHO....Basically a utility looper that is useful for practice, perhaps an informal jam and tweaking a patch....Patch tweaking is probably the most useful aspect....In that capacity, set the looper to the front of the chains so it records the dry guitar....then playback and tweak....

Connecting HD500 to Mixer XLR with Global Phantom power
spaceatl replied to stevevnicks's topic in POD HD
nothing to worry about...only that you should always mute when connecting/disconnecting as phantom on tends to cause all XLRs to pop if the channel is live on connect/disconnect... -
Are your headphones plugged in all the way? You can get behavior like that with headphones plugged in partway....If you have an adapter make sure everything is snug....Next isolate the issue...Try another set of headphones... You might be hearing bypass volume...you want to be sure that this is turned all the way down....Select the amp model, double click enter to get to the amp tone stack UI...click enter to disable the amp...should change to bypass volume interface....If you toggle dual amp models, you gotta kill that bypass volume...
