  1. I do this with the Soldano Crunch model mostly....That model can get just clean enough and level is a little easier to keep in check in transition... Basically, you can use the expression pedal on the whole tone stack (Drive, Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence, and Channel Volume)...You can even put a noise gate on it and assign the gate threshold in tandem so the gate is effectively off clean and hits the threshold you want when you are saturated...vary the delay mix, whatever...I call these morphing tones and they are about as complicated as it gets to tweak...But pretty darn cool and not too bad after you get under the expression parameter assignment....basically, put the cursor on the amp Block or FX Block and double click move to access the assignment....Some folks prefer to do this thru the Edit application as it is a little easier to see it all...Crossfading two amps is a lot easier to level out, but takes a bit more DSP...lots of options
  2. Looks like you can get a clean input on your amp. It has a stereo Aux input 1/8 stereo mini....So all you would really need is an adapter so you could get stereo 1/4 outs of an HD to your amp and bypass the vox modeling...Whether or not an HD500 is right for you is hard to say. I really like mine and I use it with various amps, direct to PA systems and at home on cans...Seems like it might be worth a try if you have that option... Helix is coming pretty soon...but not sure that would really be what you are looking for....best of luck to you...
  3. Ah, you have an edirol...Been a while since I heard about one of those, but I think I "might" know what the issue might be. Something like this has happened before years ago with the Flextone III amps...Basically, as I recall edirols install with echo turned on....You have to turn echo off for a firmware update to work. On those amps, the symptom was the same...Edit would work, but could not flash the amp...Now as far as where that is in the driver I am not sure, I am not sure...
  4. The balance line is mic level...You need to set those strips to mic...
  5. If your tracks are recorded 16 bit, 44.1K rate and -12 db peaks so that you have a dynamic range of 84db and you are happy with that, then more power to you sir... :P
  6. Really hard to guess without anything but a description of "lower quality" audio... anyhoo, the only thing(s) I can think of would be maybe the recording setting(s) for bit depth is set to 16 bits and/or maybe the sample rate is dialed back to 44.1K...When you record USB and listen on your headphones, the playback should sound nearly the same as live if you are recording 24 bit @ 48K and assuming you are running decent levels....The difference between 44.1 and 48K is noticeable at 16 bits....I say check your recording settings and make sure you are set for 24 bit and 48K sample rate...
  7. I am little new to the M20 party as I just started using it. However, I have gotten the locked display a couple of times now. I am using my M20 for live track capture. My working theory is that when things are changed on the SD card like removing folders, files or swapping cards and the playlist items or recording target no longer exist. It seems that once I clear the playlist and/or setup the recording target to one that actually exists (not an old one). I have not isolated it further, but last night we had a sessions and I locked three times while tweaking...I went to the playlist and cleared 5 or 6 old items I had there that no longer existed and setup the recording target...It did not lock again and the session lasted about 3 more hours...
  8. I have a touchscreen running Windows 8 and now on 8.1....8.1 is ok for casual home use, but 8 was a POS and it took 3 years to get the OS stable....There is no question that Windows 8 was a horrible OS rollout...Taking the start menu was an amateur academic decision. Corporations did NOT adopt Windows 8 much in the same way they did NOT adopt Vista....That's why MS fired Sinofsky and asked Allen to step down...They blew it with 8...and 10 will be better for it.
  9. Windows 8 is Vista all over again....Basically Windows 8 dies and 7 goes to 10...Hence, Seven Ate Nine... :D
  10. Some great points duncann.... Number 1 in my book is getting pickups adjusted and balanced on the guitar...That's a setup thing for the guitar and benefits on any amp/modeler you would use....However, I find this to be as subjective as setting intonation on a guitar...Everyone touches different...yet people still pay for a setup that is nothing more than an educated guess in regards to the players technique...I will stop my rant there... In terms of compressing, I would suggest putting a comp first in your chain....tame the transients before they hit the amp...I like the Vintage Pre for this as I prefer subtle and that one has a nice color....
  11. you guys should get married already...
  12. Yea, I remember walking to school uphill both ways...
  13. just click the patch button again....that will recall the patch...No PC needed...there is no need to store the patch again... unless I am not understanding you post....you say the guitar cable drags across and moves some of the tone stack knobs changing the tone....If you are on patch A, then just click A and the patch is recalled....Is there something else I am missing here?
  14. First is what I posted before....Check for BIOS updates and chipset updates for your MB....Dell, would be the place to start on that...Next, you might try isolating the problem...Instead of recording to the USB drive, remove it and record to the local drive an see if you still have the problem...Windows 8 has had some USB issues, as have some of the newer chipsets... BAD_Pool_header is usually a HDD, flash drive or memory...I suspect the drive...maybe it just doesn't like the POD...hard to say...
  15. USB is works on interrupts. It is a serial bus and the meaning is that when you have more than one device on the bus, one may/will "interrupt" other device(s) on the bus. The "streaming" mode for USB does NOT guarantee that 100% of the data will make it across the bus...data streams is data like keyboard, mouse, audio, video....this more like real-time sorta playback stuff...Data like an HD patch file would be transferred in bulk mode which means the data will be 100% correct. with audio and video there is an acceptable frame loss built into the spec....With something like a hard drive, the data being written and read from the drive is transferred in bulk mode...bulk mode means that the 100% of the data will make it across without a byte being lost...but it could be interrupted by streams where the bulk session might stop and start back up again....the stream will just drop some frames...
  16. I suspect the drive....two bulk mode devices on the same USB root controller does not generally work all that well....If you use POD HD as an audio interface and control, you best off giving it a dedicated USB root controller....Likely, you workstation has two...You might need to play around with which ports they are using and stay away from the front ports as these are generally hubs and those do not work well for Bulk and Streaming mode devices like you HD and your harddrive... Also check your BIOS version, chipset drivers and possible USB firmware for your MB....
  17. The following is only my opinion and what I would suggest... 1. General Approach...If using a Single Amp Tone, turn off Input 2 (set to mic or Vax)....If using Dual Amp Tone, set to same....However, there are some amp models that can benefit from a little extra push from setting input 2 same on a single Amp tone....Park 75 most notably. 2. Since you are using a wah in between, set the impedance to 1M or 3M....higher impedance improves dynamics as well....However, lower impedance can be helpful for taming a really bright guitar...or wah pedal...This one is subjective....You might try lower settings for the strat as compared to the Les Paul... 3. No Global EQ in Edit as duncann indicated already.
  18. Ahh, So you need a midi relay box....You might look at the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher...Might not cost as much and is a bit more general purpose in terms of adding midi to different amps...
  19. Yes you can. Basically, setup a Dual-Amp tone and using the mixer pan controls, set pan A Left and pan B to the right....A will be your Left out and B will be right....You can also monitor that in the headphones...
  20. GH90 is more of a modeling speaker I think....Less color and smoother highs...I think the cab models work better on that speaker...V30 gives some analog. During some of the betas I loaded a 212 cab with a GH90 and V30 and that actually is a very decent combo... If I had to choose, I would go GH90....I do like the GH90 in the DT25 cab quite a lot....I think it actually sounds better in closed back than open, but that is generally true for most any speaker... The Jenson Jet Tornado is not mainstream at all, but it's my fav...I have tried a lot of speakers and the 16 ohm tornado was made for the DT50112 IMHO... http://www.jensentone.com/jet_series/tornado_12
  21. Maybe the icepick is a but of an exaggeration ... Basically, I find the V30 to be a bit brighter than I would like it to be....There's a "flavor" in the magic 2-3K region that just isn't what I like for myself....Weird thing is that I totally dig listening to guys that use them, just doesn't fit what I like for my own tone if that makes any sense...
  22. I have been gigging and recording my DT50 for nearl 5 years now I think it is...Direct out rocks...
  23. I use a DT50112 loaded with a 16 ohm Jenson Jet Tornado and a 212 cab loaded with two more....I run them all parallel on the 4 ohm tap...5.3 ohm load. The slightly high mismatch sounds pretty darn nice. I run my SV112 MK1 and MK2 the same way, only those are loaded with Madison Minstrels....I like them, but they are pretty heavy (rated @ 300 watts)...Jenson Jet Tornados (Neo) are my new fav....and at 4.5 lbs, it helps a bit with the weight too... I think the GH90 sounds decent enough for an OEM speaker....Not really a Celestion fan for myself as I lean towards EV12L vibe....Not a fan of the V30 at all...It's a great speaker for that "icepick in the forehead" vibe...
  24. haha! Flextone rig....Yes, a lot of outboard gear was needed to get that amp right....Here's a pic of my old Flextone III XL rig (around 2005 I think)....Worked great, just too much to drag around and a lot of midi programing between the SPXs and the MP-1...MP-1 was used as a programable EQ and tube buffer, not as a conventional preamp....just a model helper...
  25. Can you post the type of amplifier you are using? You might be able to do this with no added gear...
