  1. So does this mean then that reamping with helix doesn't work? I mean listening to playback while tuning the helix.... Unless I guess you're foced to do it via front panel than via editor?
  2. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, unisntalled, registry cleared, REINSTALLED WINDOWS and reinstalled only surface book all to no avail. Line 6 said "oh we've noticed problems with surface products" so I switched to the Mac. Same issues. I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times on it as well. Everything is running right revs. I did NOT install the Mac specific drivers because it appeared they were only for a specific use case that didn't apply to me.
  3. Would that cause my computer to fail to recognize the helix all together???
  4. How does that explain 3 different computers and line 6 instructions to not use a hub. I have NEVER had this much trouble with ANY USB device.
  5. See my post here if you really want to help http://line6.com/support/topic/30402-at-the-end-of-my-rope-helix-usb-issues/?do=findComment&comment=234104 I've tried everything.
  6. I'm at the end of my rope here and starting to think the problem is me. I've had 2 different Helix floor units with the same frustrating USB issues. My setup is as follows: Helix connected to USB of MacBook pro. Guitar connected to Helix Powered PA Speaker Connected to Helix VIA XLR. Helix Edit running on computer Chrome Browser running on computer Listening to audio via chrome browser through helix into my powered speaker so I can practice along with said audio while also using helix edit to build my patches. This setup is core to my workflow for the type of playing that I do and has changed my life in terms of speed and time having to be spent rehearsing. I have the following problems Helix edit randomly fails to recognize helix but computer audio continues to play Helix will stay connected to computer but now computer audio fails to play through the helix. Helix edit still works Computer will randomly drop connection to the helix all together and stop recognizing it at all Reboots/restarts of both computer and helix, unplugging and replugging the helix will not get the problem to go away. It's like I have to restart the computer or helix the magical number of times to get to work again. I'll be honest, some times it feels like the demons come out whenever I touch the helix or put my foot on it. It's happened enough times at that exact moments to make me doubt it's coincidence. Unfortunately, I have the Helix 2nd hand so I have no original purchase receipt and line 6 will not accept a return without one. I've tried 3 different computers (New Surface Book on Win10, Late 2011 MacBook pro on Yosemite, the most reliable, and Older HP on win8 just for giggles) and get the same results. I've tried new and different USB cables and it all seems to turn out the same. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the helix edit and the line 6 updater. I've tried wiping and reflashing the firmware on the helix. I've tried downgrading to 2.15. I've tried downgrading to 2.20. Nothing works. Does ANYONE have any suggestions? I love the helix. I love the sound. I love how easy it is to get great tones. But I'll be honest with you, I'm ready to throw it out the window. I haven't yet because I know the alternative is an AxeFX or something like that that is not quite as stupid easy to configure and program. Please.... help.
  7. Honestly if the new update just made my helix stay connected to my computer via USB for more than 5 minutes at a time, that's all I really want.....
  8. I've had major connectivity issues with 2 Helix floor units with both windows and mac computers. It's pretty much unbearable. I'm about ready to sell this damn thing and buy an AX8 because this uSB nonsense is a deal breaker.
  9. The supplied USB cable is sometimes faulty?! Holy smokes....
  10. I see a lot of anti social responses here that. I think won't get you very far. Yes your bass player seems to be coming from a place of ignorance but I think the approach is to try to make this all work. I play live with my helix every week and have created a few converts myself who are hard core amp guys. I think the approach here is to work with him. If his issue is not hearing you on stage, invest in some form of powered cabinet to give that stage volume. If the issue is how it sounds in the practice space, work together to make it sound good. I think you gently challenge his assumptions about modeling but also firmly assert that "this is my rig and this is what I'm going to play. I am willing to work together to make sure it works for everyone because I have no doubt it can"
  11. I've had lots of usb connectivity issues with the helix floor.
  12. I agree with this. I play in a similar context and I tend to have a different patch for each song. If I change guitars I have a patch setup for that song with that guitar that I made specifically for it. Then, inside that patch I utilize snapshots for the different sections of the song.
  13. This is exactly what I do. The first block on 100% of my patches is a looper.
  14. The amplifi should work fine. Or you can get any number of powered PA speakers. Studio monitors are a good option as well. I like the powered pa speaker personally because when I play live it's going through a PA and mixing at home with a similar type of device I feel gets me closest.
  15. Maybe it's intermittent. I don't know. My surface book worked great for a year as well no problems. Then one day it stopped and never worked again. Reformatted windows, updated OS, new USB drivers, new surface firmware, new cables etc etc. Then line 6 told me the news. Switched to the MacBook, no issues.
  16. I used my surface book successfully for a while and then one day it decided not to work anymore. The USB problems came out of nowhere and once they came it was impossible to get it to work again. I went so far as to reinstall windows to make sure it wasn't a bad driver issue. Buyer beware
  17. Fyi to all of you here, I had some very frustrating and mysterious issues related to USB connectivity and after much weeping and gnashing of teeth discovered the problem is with the Surface. Line 6 support initially told me the following "We have see a few different Surface Books that have had connection issues with USB. It's not something that we can fix, since its hardware related. The best thing I can recommend for you is to try it on another computer. The Surface Book is really a hit or miss, its not guaranteed to work. It's not supported. Sorry for any inconvenience." Originally I was incredulous but after a long journey that I won't bore you with they are absolutely correct. So I know there have been discuss a on here about using the Helix edit with a tablet and people recommending the Surface. I would tell you to steer clear.... I'm now having to use an old MacBook at home just to run my helix.
  18. 4cm to me is if you want to use your guitar amp and get the sound of your guitar amp. You can always patch in amp Sims into the fx return and get amp modeling that way too but it can be iffy in my opinion. If you want to use the helix for all the amp modeling, then the power amp is the way to go. Just know that you're kind of going to be "stuck" with the cab sound of your cab because running an IR or cab Sim into a guitar cab will pro ably not sound nice. Believe it or not I ran a Behringer v-amp into a peavey 50 tube power amp and a 2x12 Mesa half back cab for years in an original rock band. I got Tons Of complements on my tone. If it sounds good it is good right?
  19. In my experience the best way to use the helix, or any modeler for that matter as a "traditional" amp and cab is to run the helix into a clean tube power amp and into a cab. I've gotten the best results over the years this way
  20. I have but it's just not there. I just want something that sounds like a JHS PANTHER CUB. The Timeline I had was close but not quite. The Adriatic is further still.
  21. Bloom and cloud verb are two different delay machines in the big sky. You can't blend them but they are similar. If you're someone who's used those effects and wishes you could get it in the helix, then what I've listed above does a pretty decent job. If you don't know what I'm talking about and have no reference point then what I'm saying probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense
  22. I know it's been beat to death but I hate the tuner. Also I hate the fact that several of the delays have really low limits on the delay time. Being primarily a guy that plays at church, we play a lot of songs around 68-75 bpm and use a lot of 1/4, dotted 1/8th and 1/8th note delays and many of the delays are not options because of those limitations. I love the sound of the analog delays but can't ever use then. On my old timeline it at least had a range setting where I could half or double the range to get great bucket brigade delays. Don't know why line 6 can't do that.
  23. Put the cave on path 1a and particle on path 1b. Put the splits on either side of the cave reverb so that the 2 reverb are running parallel to each other. If you put cave then particle on the same path that's in series.
  24. So I discovered a very easy way to dial in a tone for a particular part or song when building a patch to help improve the process and speed things up a bit. What I've started doing is dropping a looper block as the FIRST Block in the chain. I build out my basic signal path after that, record a loop of the main lick or riff of the song or part I'm wanting to dial in and just let it loop. From there, I can take my hands off the guitar and just live on the editor or on the helix interface while I can tweak and dial away to my heart's content without having to do the whole "play, stop, tweak, play stop tweak" nonsense over and over again. I can run through several IRs, A/B amps, adjust eq, high and low cuts, delay times, rates, mix, etc etc all on the fly. Its basically reamping without a DAW, which I don't have. This has greatly allowed me to run through multiple settings on the fly and really sped up my work flow for dialing in patches. Hopefully this helps some of you guys!
  25. One thing you didn't mention is 3rd part IR. I found the difference to be night and day between the built in cab Sims and and the ownhammer IR pack I bought. Being able to use the studio mixes with a blend of dynamic, ribbon and room mics made the whole sound come a live to me.
