  1. Check Ideascale for this suggestion. If it already exists vote it up. If not, create it.
  2. Yes and no, I guess. It depends on what you are using the looper for, which dictates where you need to place it in the signal chain and hence whether or not the FX trails will apply. If you are using the looper to audition tones while using your hands for real-time editing you want to place the looper at the beginning of your signal chain. You then record a loop (which records the dry pre -FX guitar signal), start playback, put down your guitar, and start tweaking to hear the audio of your tone/preset changing in real time as you tweak. In this case your FX trails are audible after the loop playback is stopped, assuming of course that you have the trails turned ON in the specific FX, because the dry signal from the loop will still be processed by the following FX in the signal chain, However, If you are using the looper to record a backing track that you can practice soloing over then you need to place the looper at the end of the signal chain. In that case the processing of the FX in the signal chain is baked into the recording of the loop. The recorded audio (including FX trails) will stop immediately when you stop the loop playback. Hope this helps.
  3. No - HX Edit versions generally move in lock-step with Helix Firmware versions. You will not be able to use HX Edit v2,70 with a Helix device running firmware v2.50. However, it is simple and not risky to revert to HX Edit v2.50 (including associated driver and Line 6 Updater program) to replace an installed HX Edit v2.70.
  4. You should place the Looper block at the end of the signal chain in both presets to avoid this.
  5. I agree with datacommando - unless you have a specific reason for this I would upgrade both devices to the latest firmware, and keep them always up to date. However if you really do want to do this you can. When you run the Line 6 Updater program it lets you select earlier versions of firmware to install.
  6. You're welcome. Glad you got it all sorted out.
  7. ,Here's the surprising answer..... because they prefer it. So it seems do you. Why not get it and be happy?
  8. Okay - case closed. You win. Does that mean you'll go to Fractal now? Please?
  9. No - installing HX Edit does not update the firmware. However, the HX Edit installation package that you downloaded included a program called Line 6 Updater. You need to run that, with Helix connected via USB, to update the firmware.
  10. Q1: The answer depends on the type of Variax you have. Later model Variax guitars (JTV, Standard, and Shuriken) are fully controllable from Helix. In Helix presets you can store and recall Variax models, alternate tunings, Vol and Tone knob settings, and output mode (Mags or Model). You can also use the Variax Vol/Tone knobs as Helix FX parameter controllers. Earlier models of Variax (pre-JTV) are not supported in Helix although some control (e.g. model selection in a Helix preset) is generally possible in an unsupported fashion. Q2: No latency difference. Some users feel that the VDI connection vs. analog output has a different quality to it. Q3: No difference.
  11. You can't change the default parameters for an FX but you can save your preferred settings for that (and other) FX blocks in a separate preset. For instance, I have saved a few presets in the Templates setlist for this purpose. Each preset is not intended to be a useable preset; rather, it is just a repository for some of my favoriteFX blocks with my preferred default parameter settings. Whenever I want to add the FX block to a new preset I just copy and paste it from the template preset.
  12. Pod Farm v1.x is included (free) with a Pod X3 Pro. You would need to purchase a license to use Pod Farm v2.x. Also, Pod X3 and Pod Farm v1.x are fully compatible in terms of presets. You can easily transfer all presets from one environment to the other and they will work equally well in both environments. This is not true with Pod Farm v2.x which is not fully backwards compatible with Pod X3 devices.
  13. It's actually very fast and simple. Use the Presets button/knob on the device - not the editor. Rotate the knob one click left and immediately back a click right. The first rotation loads the adjacent preset, wiping out unsaved changes in the current preset. The second rotation reloads the original preset and changes are gone.
  14. True - but you'll still need an external looper if you want to use it for live performances. While the Helix LT looper has a longer recording time it still doesn't have the features that you need for live play. It's good for auditioning tones while editing and for practicing solos over a backing loop but not for live performances.
  15. Good news. Glad to hear that there's no damage to the building. Hope everyone is safe.
  16. On the X3 Live device there is a switch (above and left of the Master Volume knob) to set the Live Outputs to Line or Amp level. Make sure it is set to Amp level for your purposes. If the switch is set to the middle position (neither Line nor Amp) it acts as an overall Mute setting, which fits the symptom you describe.

  18. If I recall the history of this it is the result of a design change and firmware update at a very late product development stage, perhaps in the beta test phase. An earlier design allowed presets with four flexible FX blocks and no FX Loop. Some of those presets are still in circulation. When loaded into the current firmware they still operate properly. However the current firmware no longer supports this format from an editing perspective so you can't edit a current preset to replace the FX Loop with a different FX block. In order to have 4 flexible FX blocks you need to find and use one of those early legacy presets like the Jeff Beck patch you mention.
  19. The actual Gearbox-compatible tones that you have already downloaded cannot be transferred to newer equipment. However, you will be able to use Customtone to find other tones that are compatible with any newer Line 6 pedals.
  20. Generally speaking you need a software editor program (not hardware/equipment) to load tones from your computer into a Line 6 device connected via USB. However, I don't see any software for the Floor Pod Plus available at the usual location - the Downloads section of this website. Accordingly I suggest you open a support ticket or call Line 6 directly (see Contact Us link below) to see if there's a piece of legacy software that they can make available to you.
  21. Like codamedia said. In addition, set the Helix 1/4" outputs to Line level. Make sure you begin with the speaker volume controls at a very low level to avoid potential damage - the Helix output may be very loud if the speaker volume level is high.
  22. Start with neutral (zero) EQ on the board but it depends a lot on the venue. Use your ears and turn the dials until it sounds right.
  23. Depends on whether you use stereo FX and want your audience to hear the separation. Also depends on the capacity of your mixer/PA and whether it can spare two channels for a guitar.
  24. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'the native Helix editor'. If you mean the HX Edit program the IRs are loaded into the Helix LT device at the same time that you import them into the HX Edit program. All you need to do is Save the preset and the IR will be saved in the device. But there is also a product called Helix Native and I'm wondering if that's what you are referring to. If so, the easiest way to get the IRs into the LT device is by using the HX Edit program as described above instead of Helix Native.
