Drag the tone file from your computer folder to any preset slot in Helix Native.

Yes. Connect your electric guitar to the Helix Floor Guitar Input and connect your acoustic's DI box to the Mic Input. Then prepare your presets to use one input or the other and select the appropriate preset for the instrument you are playing at any time. You would no longer need your Fender Supersonic amp if you connect the Helix outputs direct to PA/mixer, unless you want to use it as a stage monitor. But I would recommend a standard stage monitor connected to the PA for that purpose.

Where is the Workbench software download?
silverhead replied to jbernard54's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
I can see it in the Downloads section of this website. There are two Workbench software products that you can select in the All Software (middle) field of the selection area. The original Workbench product is called Variax Workbench. The more recent product is called Workbench HD. -
Maybe time to try a different cable?

Maybe this snip from the manual will help. See Global Settings -> EXP x Pedal Position: Determines whether the Helix expression pedal positions are recalled per snapshot, per preset, or applied globally. If you want a Volume Pedal or Wah to maintain its position when switching presets, set this to "Global."

Helix playing DAW sounds I dont want
silverhead replied to 5mafre5br's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
When you connect the Helix it automatically sets your computer's soundcard to Helix. That's why you're hearing the PC playback through Helix. You need to manually reassign that after connecting Helix. Go to your PC sound settings and select the Focusrite as your audio interface for playback and recording. -
I am in the habit of doing this by Exporting and then Importing an empty setlist. Ensuring that you have this empty setlist on hand is best managed at the time of a firmware update. Prior to updating, backup all your setlists individually (as well as doing a full backup if you wish, which includes IRs and Global Settings). After updating the firmware I then: - perform a factory reset to install the new factory setlists which may include new or modified presets and definitely includes the empty User setlists. - Export the factory setlists individually, including one of the empty User setlists, so that I will be able to replace these if desired at any time without having to perform a factory reset - Import my previously Exported custom setlists. Having done all this as a routine practice I can now Import any useful setlist (including an empty setlist) at any time.

Helix playing DAW sounds I dont want
silverhead replied to 5mafre5br's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Aas fffbrgst said, the statement that you 'have XLRs coming out of Helix into the DAW' is confusing to us. Typically the term DAW refers to a software recording program that runs on your computer. Being a piece of software, it cannot have XLRs running into it. The DAW communicates with an external piece of hardware called an audio interface ( connecting Helix to your computer via USB allows Helix to play this role). Please clarify your hardware setup. What, exactly, is physically connected to what? Note: Thee are DAWs that operate as a separate, standalone device that includes both the hardware and software components. In this case you don't use your computer at all for recording; your Helix could be physically connected to your DAW. If this is your setup please clarify. -
Here's another hint that may help. I discovered this after about 30 mins one day when the X3 Live outputs suddenly went silent. I was going crazy. What had suddenly changed, and how do I get the sound back?? After wracking my brain I remembered I had vacuumed the dust off the top of the X3 Live the day before this happened. Sure enough, there's a little physical switch that toggles the output mode between Amp and Line levels (or something like that). Apparently it acts as an overall Mute button when positioned exactly in between those left/right toggle positions. That's where my vacuum cleaner left it!! This is handy for muting your speakers rather than disconnecting them.

It depends on what you are doing. For instance, if you are recording vocals you want to hear the backing tracks in your headphones but you don't want to hear the sound through your speakers because that will also be picked up by the microphone and mixed in the background with your vocal. Also, you don't want to hear the playback of your voice. I haven't done that with the X3 Live in a few years but if my memory serves me correctly I would disconnect my speakers while recording the vocal. At the same time, in my recording program I would turn OFF the software monitoring of the vocal track being recorded. I think (not 100% sure) I would then hear only the backing tracks through my headphones - not my voice. I'm not sure about other apps. For instance, in group-gaming you want others to hear you via your mic but you don't want to hear yourself in the headphones. Similarly, look for a software monitoring feature in your gaming app and turn it off.

You're on the right track. In your PC set the X3 Live as both your playback and recording device. This directs your computer to use the X3 for all audio purposes (including playback from gaming, browsing, etc.), which means everything audio-related should be connected to your X3. This includes your speakers, headphones, microphone, and guitars or other recording instruments. Your computer will send and receive all audio over the USB connection to the X3. And you're right about the need for phantom power - your X3 does not provide it so you need to connect your condenser mic to the phantom power device first then to the X3.

What exactly do you mean by 'to work the M20d'?

Did you need to enter the code the very first time you connected? If so things are working properly; anyone else would also need to enter the code the first time. But after the first security check the connection is automatic, same as any wireless network connection. "Home is where the wi-fi connects automatically."

Like ffbrgst said, the Pod Farm FX are only active while the Pod Farm program/app is running. Once you close it the FX are gone, leaving you with the dry sound. There is no 'fix' for that.

I'm desperate for this feature. It already ruined a couple of gigs
silverhead replied to vinny199's topic in Helix
From the manual page 55: When set to "Presets" or "Snapshots," FS1 (BANK ) and FS7 (BANK ) change to PRESET / or SNAPSHOT / , where pressing either switch instantly selects the next/previous preset or snapshot, without a bank queue. This is useful if you've programmed a xed set list for your show, and just want to increment through all your presets or snapshots. You can also cycle through all three switch types by pressing and holding both the FS1 and FS7 switches for two seconds. At any time, press and hold both FS1 and FS7 to cycle through BANK / , PRESET / , and SNAPSHOT / . -

silverhead replied to vinny199's topic in Helix
First, the official place to make a feature suggestion to Line 6 is Ideascale.com Second, something that might alleviate your issue a bit is to set the Up/Down switches to 'Snapshot' rather than Bank or Preset (see Global Settings). This will mean that when you mistakenly hit the Up/Down switch the display will blink while showing all Snapshots in the current preset, allowing you to select the one you want. This seems to be at least less potentially disruptive for your purposes. -
Your screen capture confirms that the Helix device is running firmware v 2.71. Check the version number of HX Edit to make sure that it is also v2.71 - it will be under the Help submenu, probably an item called About..... I now know what you meant by the 'Helix sidebar thing'. It looks like you are running a really old and now obsolete version of the Helix editor - a program simply called Helix. What you want is a program called HX Edit, not Helix. HX Edit is the full Helix editor program, providing much more than just the 'sidebar thing' used for preset importing and exporting.

No instrument input UX1
silverhead replied to Caspertjie's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Make sure the Pod Farm mixer page has the Guitar (not Mic) input selected. -
As the instructions state, there is no need to download the Helix firmware file (.hxf) nor the Updater program, nor the driver separately. The only thing you need to download is the Hx Edit installation program/package. Run the HX Edit installer program - it will install the HX Edit program, the Line 6 Updater program, and the driver. After installation is complete (and after optionally making a Helx system backup using HX Edit) run theLine 6 Updater program with Helix connected and follow the instructions to update the firmware. Note: the driver is likely only required for Windows systems. On Mac systems the Core Audio system is used.

From the symptoms I'd say you are using incompatible versions of the relevant software. The latest versions are: - Helix firmware v2.71 - HX Edit v2.71 (I presume that's what you mean by 'the Helix sidebar thing'?) - Line 6 driver v1.91 - Line 6 Updater v1.16 If you need to update any software do so follow the instructions here: Once you have compatible software installed you should be able to drag/drop any *.hlx file from a folder on your computer into any preset slot in the HX Edit window.

recording Recording Helix Rack Send 1 & 2 or 3 &4 to an external recorder
silverhead replied to prashbez's topic in Helix
I believe your tests will show that the Helix is every bit as good as your Apogee as an audio interface in terms of sound quality. However, the Apogee has many more audio inputs and can be used for recording more instruments simultaneously. If that's important to you then keep it. Otherwise, time to think of what you will buy with the proceeds from selling your Apogee. EDIT: Upon looking into the Apogee device a bit more I see that there are only 4 standard analog audio inputs. The remaining inputs are digital and require additional specialized input devices. (Helix, for instance, has an S/PDIF output that could be used for this.) Helix is more than adequate to support 4 simultaneous analog audio inputs, making it at least as capable as the Apogee in the analog realm. But I don't know enough about how the Apogee operates in the digital realm to support my earlier statement so I have crossed it out. Unless you are using Apogee's digital I/O capabilities you can sell it.
