On the X3 Live device there is a switch (above and left of the Master Volume knob) to set the Live Outputs to Line or Amp level. Make sure it is set to Amp level for your purposes. If the switch is set to the middle position (neither Line nor Amp) it acts as an overall Mute setting, which fits the symptom you describe.

If I recall the history of this it is the result of a design change and firmware update at a very late product development stage, perhaps in the beta test phase. An earlier design allowed presets with four flexible FX blocks and no FX Loop. Some of those presets are still in circulation. When loaded into the current firmware they still operate properly. However the current firmware no longer supports this format from an editing perspective so you can't edit a current preset to replace the FX Loop with a different FX block. In order to have 4 flexible FX blocks you need to find and use one of those early legacy presets like the Jeff Beck patch you mention.

The actual Gearbox-compatible tones that you have already downloaded cannot be transferred to newer equipment. However, you will be able to use Customtone to find other tones that are compatible with any newer Line 6 pedals.

Equipment for adding tones
silverhead replied to bmoney42's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Generally speaking you need a software editor program (not hardware/equipment) to load tones from your computer into a Line 6 device connected via USB. However, I don't see any software for the Floor Pod Plus available at the usual location - the Downloads section of this website. Accordingly I suggest you open a support ticket or call Line 6 directly (see Contact Us link below) to see if there's a piece of legacy software that they can make available to you.- 4 replies

Like codamedia said. In addition, set the Helix 1/4" outputs to Line level. Make sure you begin with the speaker volume controls at a very low level to avoid potential damage - the Helix output may be very loud if the speaker volume level is high.
-
Start with neutral (zero) EQ on the board but it depends a lot on the venue. Use your ears and turn the dials until it sounds right.
-
Depends on whether you use stereo FX and want your audience to hear the separation. Also depends on the capacity of your mixer/PA and whether it can spare two channels for a guitar.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'the native Helix editor'. If you mean the HX Edit program the IRs are loaded into the Helix LT device at the same time that you import them into the HX Edit program. All you need to do is Save the preset and the IR will be saved in the device. But there is also a product called Helix Native and I'm wondering if that's what you are referring to. If so, the easiest way to get the IRs into the LT device is by using the HX Edit program as described above instead of Helix Native.

Happy with POD HD PROX thinking of Helix Rack...should I?
silverhead replied to jcosta_sr's topic in Helix
I don't think you'll find much resistance to your proposed Helix purchase here. After all, this is a group of mostly satisfied Helix owners. No - there is no easy way to convert patches. Initially you will feel inclined to manually convert the patches by recreating all amps and FX blocks with all their settings. You can run HDProEdit with the HD Pro disconnected and simultaneously run HX Edit with the Helix device connected. That will certainly allow you to manually recreate the patch exactly for those presets where all the amps/FX exist in both HD Pro and Helix. However you will be surprised to discover that the patches really don't sound the same. That is because of the underlying differences in the modeling algorithms. So you will find that you have to tweak the tones anyway after recreating them. Eventually, as you get more comfortable with Helix, you will find that building presets from scratch is a better method of achieving the tones you want. Here's the thing: Helix is (imho) capable of producing superior tones than the Pod HD can deliver. Not to say the Pod HD tones aren't very good - just that Helix is capable of better. So you are doing yourself a disservice by buying Helix with the idea of recreating your POD HD tones. It's a reasonable place to start but you can do better once you get used to building your own tones in Helix. -
Except for those little accents, I guess...... :-)

Can I install and use Native Offline (Demo or full)?
silverhead replied to Thurston9's topic in Helix
OK, after a quick check and test ....... I am fully authorized for Helix Native on my Windows 10 computer/DAW. While connected to the Internet I have no problem working with Helix Native (using Cakewalk by Bandlab, not that this should matter). With DAW/Native running I disabled my internet connection. While disconnected I was able to use Helix Native with no issues - loaded a new setlist and assigned/edited different presets to the track. Playback worked normally. I then closed the DAW session and restarted it. Helix Native failed to work and issued the usual message about failing to launch the DSP engine. Conclusion: On Windows 10 using Cakewalk Helix Native requires an internet connection to start but then can operate without it. EDIT: A further test using Reaper showed the same results so the DAW doesn't seem to have anything to do with it. Seems to be either a general Win10 issue or a specific issue with my installation. The detailed error message is: "Failed to connect to DSP engine. (Device has not been initialized properly. code - 8201) " Can other Win10 users confirm this behaviour or are you able to launch Helix Native in a DAW without an internet connection?? -
No - Helix only uses English in its displays.

Can I install and use Native Offline (Demo or full)?

Maybe it's a Mac/Windows thing? I am on Windows 10 while soundog is on Mac. I'll check again later and report back but I'm pretty sure I am fully authorized. -

Curious. I have authorized my Helix Native but still seem to have to be connected to the Internet to use it. I don't think it should be this way - I think it should be as soundog and brue58ski say - online for authorization but OK offline after that.. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong (or not doing) though. I'm on Windows 10. -

My version of Helix Native (v1.70) does not work without an internet connection. -
Yes - that could work. It's possible that a firmware update could manage existing looper memory to store up to 4x15 sec. stereo loops as opposed to 1x120 sec. mono loop (or any compatible number of mono/stereo combinations of loops) with each looper occupying an available FX block in the selected path. Again - you could make a suggestion for this in Ideascale.
-
You could make this suggestion in Ideascale. The biggest challenge, I suspect, would be memory. Each additional active loop would require additional memory. There's virtually no chance that new memory will be added in the design and manufacture of the device, so that memory would have to be stolen from existing memory. What features or capabilities (presumably currently using that memory) would you be willing to give up?
-
I doubt that we'll ever see a Save option for the Looper in any Line 6 Multi-FX device. These devices include a basic looper for practice and preset audition purposes. It's not intended to be, or compete with, a fully functional looper pedal such as the Line 6 JM4 Looper or a similar 3rd party product.
-
That's the way it works. You can't save loops; you can hold one loop (plus overdubs) in memory at one time. As soon as you begin a new loop, or turn off the device, the loop is gone.
-
Yes. The simplest FX block to use is the Simple Pitch FX. It has a Mix control. It should work better for Bass guitar than a regular guitar because it (and all Helix Pitch Shift FX) is primarily a monophonic FX meaning it handles one note at a time much better than it handles, say, a chord.

Don't read anything into that. I don't know any more about this possibility than you do, but I do know that it seems possible. No idea if it's in the plans. Perhaps an Ideascale item?

You may have a defective unit. Since it's new rather than try to problem solve I would return it and get a replacement.
