Yes. To be completely sure that this does not affect your Helix device I would leave it disconnected while you download and reinstall the editor. No need for another device global reset. When downloading the editor I would reinstall the latest versions of the driver and Line 6 Updater too. No harm done there. Before doing anything I would confirm the firmware version that is installed on your device. Again, disconnected from the PC, hit the Menu button on the Helix device and select Global Settings. In the top right hand corner of the display you should see Firmware Version 2.10.0 followed by a series of alphanumerics that might be different for the floor and rack versions - don't worry about that. If you see v1.10.0 then proceed with the Edit download and installation. If you don't see that then something went wrong in the firmware update and you may be running incompatible versions of firmware and editor. Reinstall the firmware using Line 6 Updater after doing the above.

Hmmm... I suggest you open a support ticket to work directly with Line 6 tech support. I know you also had significant difficulty with the update though I believe you were able to get it installed eventually. Together these things suggest there might be something in your PC environment that is causing USB or other conflicts. Meantime you might try disabling all other USB devices on your computer and trying the Helix editor as the only device connected. If that works OK then begin adding back the other devices until you find the conflicting device. I would do full restart on both your computer and Helix before starting this process.
-
Aaah - yes. Hadn't considered that setup.
-
Yeah - I completely understand how time consuming it can be. I do encourage you to open a support ticket about this if you haven't done so already. This problem has all the signs of a tricky bug somewhere deep in the weeds. The more info Line 6 gets about it the more likely they are to be able to find and fix it.

That's strange. It installed Updater v1.10 for me (Windows 10).

And I think that makes sense from a 'real world' perspective too. Each of the DSP paths has one split parallel path, so you can have paths 1A and 1B as well as 2A and 2B. In order to have three amps in one DSP path you would have to have two of the amps in a serial rather than parallel configuration. I don't think you get a good sound in the real world by connecting the output of one amp to the input of another. I think one of the main objectives of the 4CM is to avoid doing that.

So, back to the original post/poster........ After rectifying any issues with IRs and global settings, are you still experiencing problems with the update? If so, please give details and perhaps we can help.

I think the comparison is fair. I'm not talking about religion itself here, just musicians who play religious music. I think death metal players and P&W players might have about equal influence and consequences within their respective audiences. Neither are fraudsters because of the type of music they play, nor are they any more or less musicians because of it. Both types of players have legitimate 'jobs' in the music business whether or not any particular individual likes the musical style.
-
I don't see the need to back up IRs. They are already individual files on your computer. That's the only way they got into Helix in the first place.
-
Does the display say 'Rebuilding Presets'? This takes some time and is normal. Don't forget to complete the process by resetting the globals as per instructions.
-
It sounds like you are installing the driver as a separate piece. Try following the installation procedures, which involve downloading the Helix app installer as indicated above. Running that installer installs compatible versions of the app, the driver, and the Line 6 Updater program all at once.
-
Did you install the driver? Start by downloading the Helix app (not firmware). Select Helix in the Software (not Products) filed on the Downloads page. After downloading, run the installer file to install the app, driver, and Line 6 Updater. Follow the instructions you find on the Helix app download page.

I've edited your post from a different perspective to answer your 'Why' question.
-
I never back up the whole bundle either. Setlists and presets only.
-
Wow. Sometimes you can sound so reasonable. And then you repeatedly say things like this. A little winky face doesn't excuse a very personal insult disguised as a joke. Even if you yourself are not religious you should respect the fact that others are.
-
Well, not quite everyone..... ;) You're about 6 weeks late for us Canadians. We're well over and done with Thanksgiving. But, indeed, Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends.
-
Is this a repeatable event? Did you begin with a New Preset in the latest firmware/editor combo and create a preset that does not export/import successfully? If so, can you please provide detailed step-by-step instructions so others can try to recreate this problem? That would be extremely helpful to demonstrate that this is a general issue, not just particular to your PC environment, and also very useful for Line 6 debugging purposes.
-
I would encourage everyone who is noticing problems with patch export/import to log a support ticket with Line 6. They can use whatever info you provide to investigate any potential bugs.
-
The Guitar-In-Z parameter can be found on the Input block of each preset - it's not a global setting. This setting should be retained during the preset export/import process. You shouldn't need to consider it after a firmware update. The Guitar In Pad (which can also greatly affect overall tone) is a global setting.

M20d - Mix Output Options
silverhead replied to StuMur's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Yeah it would be nice to be able to do a virtual mapping but using the monitor outputs will require some setup and experimentation. Don't forget the more direct solution offered by SiWatts69 in post #2 above re: using the THRU/OUT jacks on your PA speakers if they exist.- 10 replies

There are a few things you can do to try and correct the tonal differences. A couple of these have been mentioned above but I'll repeat them:- make sure you perform the global reset after updating as described in the instructions - if you use IRs make sure you load them back into the same slots as before. The global reset removes all IRs. - make sure you manually restore all your global settings to their previous state. This can include on/off states of things like Global EQ. It also affects the global/preset application of Variax parameters.

Looking at an M13 for live use, couple of questions.
silverhead replied to RevCain's topic in M5 / M9 / M13
1) The M13 is a Stompbox (FX) modeler. It does not include amp models (e.g. the Plexi) but it does include a wide range of FX models similar to what you find in Pod Farm. 2) No. If you want to have amp and FX modeling in the same unit you should look at the Line 6 products in the Effects section under the Products tab above. If you're new to this and like mobile devices I think something like the AMPLIFi line or the Firehawk FX is good. If you want to go deeper and like editing on PCs look at the POD HD500X. While the flagship Helix is an excellent product it's quite expensive and a rather complex starting point - but the sounds and features are stellar. One caveat. If you want to continue using your physical Peavy amp it can get complicated using amp modeling. You'll have to learn how to avoid using both the physical amp and the modeled amp simultaneously. That rarely sounds good. Do some research in this forum on something called the 4CM (4 cable method). If that sounds too complicated you might want just an FX modeler like the M13 and stick with your Peavy. -
M20d - Mix Output Options
silverhead replied to StuMur's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I wasn't very clear. You don't virtually assign the monitor sends to the Mains on the M20d. You have to set up a pair of stereo monitors as stage icons on the M20d. Then you feed the house system separately via a pair of XLR cables coming from the M20d Monitor outputs (A & B or whatever two you want). In the M20d Monitors page you setup two monitor stage icons and make them a stereo pair. Then you set them to Linked mode so that they reflect any changes to the individual Channel levels. Between the Monitor Send levels on the M20d and the house system you set the overall house volume level, balancing it with your M20d Main outs/PA level. You may need to independently assign any Global FX to the monitors, or they may inherit any Channel Global FX assignments - I don't know. I haven't personally experimented with this setup but I'm sure that the manual Section 5, along with page 3-12, and your own experimentation should get you there without too much trouble. Let us know how it goes.- 10 replies

If you have two spare monitor feeds from the M20d you can use those set to the main mix.- 10 replies

As another test, reinstall/update the firmware again and complete the installation with the global reset as documented. Then try rebuilding the problem presets from scratch again BEFORE you import anything. If that works OK then do not import the problem presets.
