  1. Not sure but it's definitely on the FH itself. You have a setting somewhere where you can choose between Mono, Stereo and Wide Stereo
  2. Correct but there is also a setting in the FH that turns it into mono, even when receiving a stereo signal.
  3. I use it in mono, going in through the monitor in (left and right). I tried stereo first but got fase issues. Turned the FH to mono and was blown away! Haven't taken the time and effort to try with one cable but I guess it should work fine. I do like having the patches in stereo on the helix so I can use them that way at home through headphones. Hiss: Actually I have no problems with hiss except on one patch. I can't figure out what's going on. I have an external drive in the effects loop in front of a clean amp sim. At first I thought I had the culprit because the hiss stops when I bypass the effects loop. But then I found that the hiss also stops when I leave it on but bypass the amp sim. Huh? I don't think it's a FH problem since my other patches are dead silent and also use the same pedal in the loop and the same amp with the same settings. There is a difference in routing though. The one wit hiss has a seperate path with just the pre amp while the other path has the drives and effects. By doing this I get the really pronounced picking dynamics of the clean path mixed with the drive sound with a lot of sustain from the second path. Anyway: I love the FH with Helix this way. I've never had such a great, clear and defined sound that cuts like a knife before. And I can tell you that volume really is no issue. It's REALLY LOUD!! I'm pretty sure it uses the two coaxials and the 12" center speaker (could be wrong, don't know for sure). I don't think it's unseeing the horn though.
  4. Reaper is great, I've been using it for recording for quite a while now. I really don't like the standard theme though, I think it looks terrible and confusing. I recommend the AM_JANNE-2017 theme or Albert-C
  5. No that's being cruel to the new audience who probably doesn't deserve it. No, if there's any justice in th eUniverse, he became aware of his behaviour, curled up in a corner felling ashamed and came out after a few days and apologized to all of us.
  6. I'm so happy to see there are many Zappa fans on this forum. Up untill now his name barely ever got mentioned. I was alsmost convinced I was alone. Zappa has been my hero for alomost 35 Years and something Zappa related goes through my head every single day. Be it music or some quote or lyric. Thanks guys!
  7. Absolutely one ofe my top favorites!!!It genius from start to finish!
  8. The highlight in my musical "career" has been touring with Ike Willis twice!
  9. Mostly all of it for me but for you it kind of depends on the music you like already.
  10. It's the guy who invited Sting to the stage to sing the best rendition of Murder by Number ever played with some of the best musicians ever.
  11. Amen to that! Wow, you actually met the guy, I'm jealous but happy for you! Zappa has been my musical hero and example ever since I got introduced when i was around 16. I was a Hendrix fan at the time. A schoolfriend said "You like guitar, well listen to this " and put on Yo mama. I was completely blown away and that's when the journey started. Now I started a Zappa tribute band and we're rehearsing like hell to get ready for our first gig. We're really not that good but we have a lot of fun! Trying to play Zappa songs is a fantastic learning experience and when a song starts working it's just so great to do. We're called Absolutely Frank. Take a look at absolutelyfrank.com and tell me what you think. Don't hesitate to be critical either, I value your honest opinions.
  12. Actually he kept singing and playing almost all solo's till the end. Except of course with the Yellow Shark Project which was orchestral and had no singing or guitar solo's
  13. You're welcome! It's always nice to meet a fellow Zappa fan! There just ain't enough. "Music is my religion. It's the only one that delivers the goods" Frank Zappa
  14. Now that's another tone you won't match! But who cares? Just make a tone you really like and rock on! If you wan't to sound the same-ish (that's as close as you will ever get) make a close-ish tone and enjoy!
  15. I am using the Helix to process my vocal sound. I have the mice goin through it's own seperate path (path 1A) and the guitar is using 1B, 2A and 2B. The vocal signal is going through the mice pre amp first and then goes through a few effects when I want it to (phaser and/or pitch shifter). It works fine generally but I do have some feedback issues sometimes when using the effects.
  16. I started using the Helix with the stock cab IRs and loved what I was getting. After several months of reading posts of people saying they were terrible I decided to try a few 3rd party IRs. Every one I tried was terrible to my ears, couldn' use them. I think they were some RedWire, Ownhammer and others. So I stayed with stock. Then several months after that, after reading coment after coment about the "bad" stock cabs, I decided to try again. This time my first reaction to some Ownhammers was: WOW, this is really even better than the stock cab IRs. But after A-B ing for a while I found the OH IRs were quite a bit louder than the stock IRs. Knowing that often louder suddenly sounds a lot better, I compensated on the stock IRs (+3db!) and the magic of the OH seemed to melt away. They really just dind't sound better. Different but certainly not better. Actually I tended to like the stock IR's a bit more. This was all on headphones and I haven't tried the OH at rehearsals yet, although I have made patches to try. At the moment I still haven't found any reason to switch to 3rd party IRs but, who knows?
  17. I'm using the Archetype with stock cabs (WhoWatt 100 with 121 ribbon + Cali V30 with 160 ribbon). Sounds great to me. I've tried a few Ownhammer ir's but wasn't that impressed. Sounded good but didn't seem worth the trouble. Could very well be my 'wrong, I don;t know. The ir sounded much better at first but I found out it was quite a bit louder than the stock cabs. After compensating for that the magic went away imho.
  18. Also take a look at the new Archetype Clean
  19. Used my Helix first with my DT25 throgh Line6 Link. Did no topic switching with MIDI. Just turned off all modeling on the DT. Sounds great! Then decided to exchange my 3rd faulty Variax 89F for a Firebird1500 (same price) one word: WOW! Never had such a great, transparent, defined, detailed, room filling sound (OK, a few more words). Now wondering if I'll ever use the DT25 again. I was sceptical at first, was convinced nothing could beat real tubes but now I really believe FRFR is the best (not the only) way to go with modeling. Of course that's my opinion, any other opinion is just as valid to the person having it ;-)
  20. Not so sure if it's really a Windows 10 thing. Windows clearly supports these formats (and higher): but doesn't show them on the Helix driver: So maybe it's something for Line6 to resolve? Case maybe not so closed?
  21. I'm sure you can but I haven't tried anything like that. As far as I can tell, the Firehawk can amplify anything through the monitor in. And since it FRFR it should all sound great!
  22. I agree about the amp the pushing air Behind me. With the FireHawk I have that, even though its FRFR. Best of both worlds?
