and then again if you get 2 powered speakers and plug them in you'll get a nice stereo sound or be able to run 2 separate amp sims or just have a fatter sound or.. etc i run 2 speakers and love it's versatility

how many ir's in this new add on pack? (i have the previous one already) I'm just about out of slots but may rearrange things if i buy this 😉 that's a handy video on using the 3 band comp too btw thanks 😉ðŸ‘
-
update:- after using it a bit i'm liking the way it gives the notes across all the strings a more 'evening' roundness.. i guess in the way a nice overdrive will but maybe without so much colouring.
-
i use a mix of onboard cabs and ir's and i have no problem getting a sound to love. i could never see a need for external cab devices and have only seen that mentioned about once, that someone was doing that..
-
i'll see how it goes tomorrow when i get a chance to play at a good volume, so far i'm noticing it really thickens the sound nicely and tames the spikey transients, with strat and fender/supro style combinations.. if it works at loud volumes too i'll be happy, just playing at home it sounds pretty sweet .. be interested to see if anyone else finds this to be a nice tone sweetener edit- works really nice on the litigator too, just in front of the amp
-
i came from a pod xtl and it's a pretty big improvement i have to say but in saying that, you can improve things a bit with a nice overdrive/comp or tube preamp in front of the old pod.. as a cheap option
-
decided against the ep pedal purchase , with all the options in helix and my Bogner harlow boost/compression/eq pedal i think i have enough tonal options really :)
-
yes i've done this a bit too.. it's great for that 😉ðŸ‘
-
vintage style single coil.. the tone just seemed to change quite a bit on the upside of a 50% mix level..
-
i found if the mix was too high the tone kind of thinned out for some reason.. i put mine at about 30.. then i added about 3.0 boost just to drive the (fender) amp model a bit. the thickening effect was apparent even without boosting tho
-
yeah it will be great to know if the onboard does the same job.. tho some jobs i do i just use a smaller zoom ms50g pedal instead of the helix which may benefit from that sort of pedal in front of it (tho it is suprisingly ok for the price- the amps and fx aren't too shabby for a single pedal sized unit- for non critical jamming anyway)
-
i got home and tried the transistor tape with mix on 0 and it does seem to thicken the tone and take the spikey elements from my single coil pickups.. has anyone tried that ep pedal i mentioned tho.?
-
just looking at a pedal someone is selling locally- the xotic ep boost - which recreates the preamp stage that players used from the echoplex unit , it is supposed to be a nice tone enhancer that some big players favoured (evh page etc)- i'm wondering tho if that is modelled as part of the delay model version of the echoplex on helix.?
-
oh agreed also ðŸ‘
-
great info.. i'll try the driver with a plexi, i was trying it with more the fender type models and didn't suit to my tastes
-
but you seem to like everything Happy_Guy 😉😂
-
only one thing for me really.. the valve driver has anyone ever used it and been happy with it? i tried it a few times and it just seems to make everything sound harsh and bad
-
didn't they release details before the last main one, about all that bass stuff.. any way i hope and predict for the next one.. no bass stuff!
-
haha yep! truly the best solution PeterHamm 😉ðŸ‘
-
i'd just spend time getting to know the helix- program a few simple rigs first
-
yes it has to be on the same path between presets
-
try the pad on setting on the input too. even my strat with texas style pickups sounds a little sweeter ..
-
"guitar amp modelling will never come remotely close to the feel and sound of a tube amp" - said pretty much everyone in the early 2000's .. just to remind those that are saying certain things are impossible when it comes to amp modelling. 😉

An open apology (PeterHamm) and call to arms

i find my old variax 500 with a little compression and eq to taste, with the tone knob rolled right back, on the martin setting sounds quite lovely through some decent big speakers.. yes the light touch is better definitely, start to hit it hard and it's bye bye nice sound.
