i think the way around this physics problem of needing a microphone, is just to get someone with great ears to recreate his idea of how an amp sounds sitting in front of him/her self. It would be quite subjective i know but i am willing to try something by someone (say the chap who made the litigator amp ;) ) that is his idea of a raw amp minus mic modelling. just a nice versatile immediate sounding amp model- Call it " the bedroom amp" for just sitting at home noodling around.. we all do it after all! ;)

do you go in the guitar input or one of the returns? I found going into the regular input to be rather unkind to the acoustc guitar tone. In fact i tend to throw my zoom acoustic preamp in my bag for acoustic duties. I just cant seem to be happy with the helix for acoustic. Do you gig with the setup? is it solo or in a band situation?

i had a play with it again and couldnt resist adding an IR cab as a dual path.. a friedman 2x12" edge of cone - to beef things up a bit.. haha the joy of tinkering ;)

great! thankyou.. and thanks for reminding me about this preset, i've been off trying other things lol

Harsh, or disappear? How much high-cut is too much?

try an edge of cone ir and then add some high frequency to taste.. a lot smoother to my ears -
if you have an ios device, try midi guitar and thumbjam together - works suprisingly well. it's not in helix but you could plug it in 😉

and maybe back right off the gain on the od pedal.. just boost the level
-
try a fuzz but wind the volume on your guitar back .. even to half

i just picked up a micro cube very cheap.. going into the aux input on the amp sounds pretty good. i have a crate busking amp (30w) running them in stereo sounds pretty good at home

Hide the physical amps characteristics when using Helix?
shanecgriffo replied to in2bluz's topic in Helix
you can always buy a little frfr speaker and split the signal, running your marshal next to any amp you like in helix for some stereo rig goodness 😉 -
tried it on the fender twin model - sounds good for a clean fender sound 👌

hi, made a cool preset the other day and really enjoying it. it's kind of pretty raw 70's rock style and to my ears quite sounds like a real amp sitting there in front of me. sadly having some computer probs and couldn't up load the patch but it's pretty simple with just a minotaur, brit plexi jump preamp, soupro amp, 63 spring reverb and then dual cab block with 2x12 interstate and 1x12 lead 80 cabs.. i think it sounds really cool anyway so i wrote down the settings .. you may have tweak to taste of course - i'm running thru a mackie p.a monitor and a crate 30w busking amp .. so a bit unusual.. minotaur- gain-1.2 tone-3.8 level-7.5 Preamp-brit plexi jump- brt drive-6.3 nrm drive-4.4 bass-6.4 mid-6.2 treble-3.3 ch vol-4.9 master -8.4 sag-3.0 hum-4.9 Amp-soup pro- drive 7.8 bass 5.0 tone 9.6 treble 4.8 presence 4.1 ch vol 9.5 master 8.1 sag 6.0 hum 5.0 ripple 5.0 bias 7.0 bias x-5.0 63 spring reverb (just a touch) dual cabs - 1. 2x12 interstate 421 dynamic distance 1.5" low cut 58hz hi cut 4.3 early ref 9% level 0.0 2. 1x12 lead 80 160 ribbon distance 2.5" lo cut- 83 hi-4.9 early ref 9% level 0.00 anyway someone might like this.. i'm using a strat and rolling the volume off just a little mostly and it's all just one signal path , no splits etc oh and i have the pad on..so it may be more drive than intended with the input pad off

Intermittent popping/crackling noise through amp or direct to PA
shanecgriffo replied to leadtooth's topic in Helix
make sure your phone isn't near your guitar too, a long shot that it would be the problem but mine does some weird stuff when it is near my guitar sometimes -
multibands are useful on a full mix sometimes.. it might be ok to tighten a guitar sound but i think it would be much more useful if it had a bit of visual metering.. i mean you'd rarely ever have hardware or plug in comps that have no metering display. It would be nice to have gain reduction meter on all the comps

i remember using something like this when the line 6 xtlive came out, someone had posted it in a forum, but it was the sort of thing i used for a while but then prefered the crispness of an unaltered signal. sadly something is wrong with my internet here and the video wont currently play so i can't check whether it was the same processing idea but sounds similar.

yes i would have thought the reverbs and pitch stuff might have got some priority by now .. and maybe a bit more mic control on the cabs.. more useful to more people than a bunch of bass stuff in my opinion (but that's just my opinion ;) )

not updating just yet and wondering what this is..? so it's not triggered by guitar, can you plug in a midi keyboard or it's all just droney and screen driven.?
-
from what i've heard it as not as nice as the strymon for reverb at least. If i was going into an amp 100% of the time i'd just use pedals but i go into a p.a 90% of the time so helix is great.
-
hmmm i think a better guitar might get the juices flowing and wanting you to play more, same with helix.. thereby making you possibly a better player :p
-
if all you want is fx tho i'd say there are a lot cheaper options. It's kind of very overkill if you are just going into the front of an amp and not using any of the amp modelling

It's always good to read peoples ideas.. after reading this i just went and dragged my fender deluxe 900 from out of the spare room where it was gathering dust.. it's a 90w solid state amp that i remembered had a pretty loud clean channel as well as a power amp return. I've been using a pair of mackie 10" frfr speakers that sound pretty good with the helix since i got it.. Well i found that running one of the mackies and the fender side by side sounds pretty darn good. The fender has more bite and the mackie supplies a bit more of the bass. Nice! Of course i had to make a preset with 2 paths.. one with a cab for the mackie and one without for the fender amp.

did you try the trick with the pitch shifter- using the control pedal to control the volume of the pitch shifting (set to an octave or 5th), it can sound like feedback when you bring up the level when you hit a note.. that's where i'd start.. you might be able to take it further, somehow getting it to sustain
