  1. i cant imagine that being the case.. i dont think they'd say 7 fx and include old ones in that.. updates would be a separate announcement i'm pretty sure
  2. Fuzz is getting more attention 😂
  3. actually this is the first time i saw it mentioned in a while
  4. oh, not another Fizz post..... 😂😛
  5. just a quick Q relating to this- if i have an OD pedal in front of helix (mxr GT OD pedal to be specific) or a boost/comp unit (bogner harlow) how does this affect having a fuzz on and first in the chain, in the helix.. .. Just wondering 'cause while i mostly just use the helix, i'll sometimes run these pedals too- the bogner allows me to quickly compensate between guitars with its boost and tilt eq (and is a nice tone sweetner too) and the OD i find handy in jams to add OD quickly to any patch. How does all that sit tho with this issue of the Fuzz impedence/input and is there any difference if they are off or on ? thanks
  6. from reading here it seems having phantom power from a desk effects sound quality.? i thought i read elsewhere it can fry the helix, or that is not true?
  7. i still have a few pedals but just picked up a wattson electronics eyf-6 fuzz (shin-ei superfuzz clone) this afternoon at a local pawn shop for $45.00.. was having trouble finding the fuzztone i really loved on helix and this really seems to do the trick when i put it before the helix.. and sounds great thru most of the amp models i tried.
  8. keep the strings fresh.. old strings bring out the worst in the variax.. just my tip ;)
  9. what about before you used helix? did you have the same issue?
  10. definitely dial cabs down to 5khz or below .. use ribbon mics. raise bias for a slightly thicker tone before breakup.. try the trick of using the tape delay as a preamp, (just take delay/repeats off and boost the output level a little) put it before the amp.. it thickens the sound a bit on my strat and was apparantly used like this by 60's guitar greats.. also wind off tone on guitar just a little.. this should have the sum effect of beefing the tone.. oh and maybe minotour set with drive at minimum before the amp and delay
  11. you're better to go in the aux return for piezo/acoustic in my experience, the normal input really robbed from my tone here
  12. I have some smaller mackies i bought from a friend, who also was selling a pair of larger ones.. i find them a little bass heavy for guitar.. from accounts i've read it sounds like the alto ones are voiced better for guitars
  13. if you are going out to stereo, with 2 separate panned paths on the helix, then the looper will only be coming thru one speaker which will make it sound quieter
  14. why on earth would you buy 5 klon clones if the helix is just as good ?? you probably could have bought a helix Lt for that much , and loaded a dozen+ klons in series inside it 😂
  15. my understanding is that with helix they've modelled all the elements in the signal pathway so that they all interact as in the original hardware whereas with previous pods they were just going for an 'overall' sound modelling process.. i may be wrong tho.. whatever it is, there's a lot more detail and feel now
  16. if you just have an amp, going straight in, then helix is maybe overkill in a way (well an expensive option anyway) but i think if you got your hands on a frfr speaker (find a 2nd hand powered pa speaker maybe if funds are short) then you'll open up a whole range of nice tone options - running your amp with fx and another amp from helix into the frfr speaker using the dual chain option in helix you'll really get a great sounding stereo rig. 😉
  17. Axxxeman you're talking about putting a pod up against a tube amp and yes the pod did fall flat back in the day, but that is a 20 years old example... have you used a helix??
  18. haha one to send to that bass player who was hating on the helix.?
  19. i'd say, start saving! it's always good to have a back up guitar for a gig 😉
  20. i think if your patches are tweaked in at gig volume and the onstage monitoring is sorted ( dont just rely on the venues system) then the bass players worries will be allayed after a gig or two
  21. definitely a good idea to have some sort of decent monitor sitting behind you in place of an amp so you get some good stage fill
  22. there are a few videos/ photos of people who use them live.. i'd collect them all in an email and send them.. i wouldn't even bother writing anything.. the guy is just being a bit too lordy.. off the top of my head there was a guy from king crimson, guitarist from blue oyster cult , a good photo was posted here of a guest artist playing onstage with john mayer i think (shot from behind showing helix) haha not so good with remembering the names sorry.. you could also add a few people who use kempers/axe fx seeing as he takes aim at modellers in general
  23. this is the saddest thread 😭😂
  24. simple..that's all you need in a lot of cases.. as he said, he spent a time just going straight to his amp.. it's a testament to helix i think, that it does that simple amp sound so well and doesn't need lots of fx to sound good
