  1. have a look at a video i just posted.. the current guitarist in king crimson, Jakko Jakszik is giving a run through on how he loves and uses helix, it may sway you 😉
  2. just saw this and thought i'd share-
  3. if wizard is a close copy of the original amp i say what is the point, if it has it's own flavour maybe it's worth persuing
  4. i'm not able to test atm.. but can you have delay or reverb tails between patches? i remember my old korg kaoss pad would put a delay fx on when you changed sounds and it just filled the gap.. it's one way to do it i guess
  5. i dont think there are any digital artifacts as such.. probably you just need to filter the highs a bit to recreate the sound you expect
  6. at least less competition from those little brats 😂.. have you seen what some of them can do.?? the ones that put aside their phone long enough to practice some, and then pick it up again to load their clip to youtube 😅
  7. if you are trying the presets into any amps yes it is probably going to sound bad indeed. Did you actually try it into a frfr speaker.?I'm a player of 30 years and i have to say my experience with helix is that it is addictively good, once you've set it up for the system/environment in which you are using it
  8. just no dedicated ukulele focused update for the next one thanks, it's the guitars turn again! 😉😜
  9. i'm guessing the sense of space and depth on the strymon
  10. someone mentioned running the particle and cave reverbs in parallel, it might not be the same but it's quite nice.
  11. hearing digital distortion.? try putting on the input pad in the settings if you're using fairly hot pickups.. run the output vol knob up at a reasonable level for a good signal to your speakers .. lower the master vol on some amps if it is on 10 and play with the bias (you can raise channel volume without effecting the amp tone, depending what is after the amp).. this can sweeten distortions where amps are concerned anyway.. and that delay, i think there is a headroom setting to adjust too nb- sorry i misread, i thought you meant vintage delay.. sunday morning blearry eyes haha
  12. i realize too that the modelling process is probably a lot more labour/time intensive on helix, it being a modeller and the kemper a profiler.. that delay list above would take an extreme amount of resources if it was on helix
  13. ahh maybe i am, they seem committed but at the same time i remember reading that there is just one guy that does the majority of the modeling work , i might be wrong so correct me if so please :) I mean, if that's the case, if the guy left for any reason, things would really slow down.. i was just thinking a lot of peoples issues would be sorted if they assigned a few more people to the modelling/update team.. assuming it is mostly just one guy doing this work.. i'm happy to be corrected tho :)
  14. i find if i'm playing at home or solo performance the ribbon sounds great but yes, with a busy band it's too thick
  15. i'd be inclined to go with what you know for this gig.. stick to the boss, to save any stress ..but keep chipping away at that helix for the future- you'll appreciate the extra detail and response when you get there .. maybe your band mates were'nt looking at you about the sound, dont be too O.C about the sound, if you're fumbling and tweaking around trying to get the exact sound at rehearsal or playing in a distracted way, that is really going to annoy your bandmates.. just find an approximate sound and put your whole self into your playing, you might be surprised.
  16. i guess kemper have a fairly matured /well respected product and they can keep the same model in production and popular by giving great firmware updates. I only hope line 6 follow a similar course, maybe committing more resources to updates rather than having everyone working on the next 'big thing' product..
  17. you could get a frfr speaker , split the signal after your guitar (or in the helix) and then have the luxury of having your existing amp and any amp in helix as a stereo setup, i'm sure it would sound awesome
  18. the 57 probably is ideal if it is a busy mix and you want to cut thru 😉
  19. as an australian, that aussie oi oi oi thing is so cringeworthy i gotta say.. but glad you like the country, i just hope not for the 2 listed reasons alone haha 😊
  20. have you followed advice here on hi/lo cuts?- that can make a big difference up at volume.. added a compressor? tried the transistor tape delay before the amp with delay and fb set to minimum.? (it evens out the strings balance a bit , thickens the sound) .. also you need to set up your sounds/tweak at something approaching gig/rehearsal volume to allow for the fletcher munson effect. If you are just used to the convenience of using someone elses presets and not doing it yourself you probably have some more work to do.
  21. if at first it doesn't sound good with the above advice do a hi cut down to somewhere between 3.5 and 6 khz and a lo cut at about 80-120 on the cab model and things should tighten up and sound a bit sweeter..
  22. have you tried a good acoustic preamp, maybe better results than a multi fx unit
  23. haha but guitarists in the 30's did not have so many options- and until recently, the average joe had nowhere near this level of amp/cab/fx options so it can take a bit of a struggle to tame it all into a sound that a guitarist will be happy with
  24. i'm pretty sure i had an Akai distortion pedal at one stage.. sounded pretty bad 😊
  25. i'm not sure why you'd need one...?
