u182155
Hi all, I have just ordered a lake placid blue JTV69 plus a HD500X and a DT50 - the dream rig. I can't wait to get it. I can't find anywhere online that shows what comes with the JTV69, does it have the cable to connect to the HD500x? I also believe I need a link cable between the HD500x and the DT50 and not sure if this is supplied with either of these also. Don't want them to turn up and then have to go and order these cables, want to use straight away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Dave
Goooner1
The Variax comes with a cable and an interface thingy to connect it to a computer, neither of the others come with the cables to connect to each other. I'm using the cable that came with the Variax to connect to my HD500X (minus the interface box of course) although as far as I can tell any normal Ethernet cable will work. For the Pod to the DT any DMX or AES/EBU cable will work. Congratulations on the Dream Rig, completed mine last weekend and I'm loving it :)
radatats
Search the forums, there are multiple threads about VDI cables and L6 link cables. I and others have found the Line 6 stock cable unflexible and unusable in other than a fixed home environment. The best place I have found for these cables and probably any cable you will ever need is Best-tronics. US made to order in their ISO certified factory with top quality components, good service and fast shipping all at reasonable prices. Variax VDI - http://btpa.com/Line-6-Variax/ L6 Link AES/EBU - http://btpa.com/AES-EBU/ Line 6 Wireless - http://btpa.com/Line-6-X2/ Gutar cables - http://btpa.com/Guitar-Line-Level-c-33/ Midi cables - http://btpa.com/Midi-Footswitch/ Snakes - http://btpa.com/Snakes/ - I have no affiliation with these guys whatsoever, just found them to be the absolute best... Charlie_Watt
I got my VDI cable from Best-tronics also and it is very well made and much like a standard guitar cable in flexibility. I would recommend getting a good VDI cable rather then using the one that comes with the JTV.
TheRealZap
As other suggest a good VDI cable, and I'd also get a good AES/EBU cable and i highly recommend you pickup an M-Audio UNO midi interface, since you'll want to update the amp. cruisinon2
Its been said like 4 times already, but its worth repeating. Just order yourself any of the VDI cables suggested above now...I've worked with drywall thats more flexable than the stock cable.
Hey_Joe
Welcome Dave - WARNING about the VDI Cable: Just trying to through out a heads up here. It's very important to use a VDI cable with the Neutrik shell on both ends of the cable to prevent any damage to the pins in the JTV or the POD. Yes - - a standard etherCON RJ45 will fit and work but the possibility of stepping on the cord or unintentionally damaging the non protected cable will cause big time grief and repair costs. Not using the Neutrik is trouble in the making. The cable that comes with the JTV and the USB interface is only intended for use while updating the guitar's firmware for those that don't have the HD500X/HD500 and connecting to Workbench (until Line 6 updates WB to work with the PODHD500(X) like the Variax always has in the past with the 500, X3L and XTL).
sandman69
I bought the cable from Dunkin_Dal. Really nice cables IMO. I like braided guitar cables and the ends are good. Not to mention I ordered it on Sunday and got it on Wed. http://line6.com/support/topic/958-added-new-colors-cool-vdi-cable/
snhirsch
I've worked with drywall thats more flexable than the stock cable. Heh. I've often described it as having all suppleness of a garden hose.

I got two last year, and they seem fine to me. They are more flexible than the old one I had, for sure. I think they're getting them from a different vendor now. I have one of those too, and it's OK, not great, but OK...I meant the one that came with the guitar that only has the metal collar at one end. That thing is next to useless, unless you only play sitting in a chair.
TheRealZap
thats NOT a "VDI cable"... its only for use with the workbench interface... not supposed to be useful for anything else! a real VDI cable has both metal ends. Which is why I replaced it. But since I wanted to power and control the guitar with the 500X, that's the only choice I had right out of the box...if there's supposed to be a "real VDI" included, I never got it. TheRealZap
no, never included... always an additional purchase. Well that's the only thing that came with the guitar...if there's supposed to be something else included, I never got it.
silverhead
It's worth repeating (see Hey-Joe and Zap's posts above): the cable that comes with the guitar is only meant to be used with the Workbench hardware interface. Using it for regular playing purposes is inviting physical damage to the jack at the unprotected end, requiring subsequent repair.
Goooner1
I've taken heed of these warnings and ordered a cable with Neutrik on both ends now, I shall retire my cable the came with the Variax and just keep it for Variax updates :)
Islandman2020
Soon to be new Variax JTV-69 and HD500X owner here. Ordered, and on the way.....yahoooooo! I realize this is an old thread. but it still seems the best place to post my question(s): 1) Do you use two cables with this setup (both HZ, and VDI cable) to be able to use both the magnetics, and DSP sounds? I have done a lot of searching online, but cannot find the answer to that question. 2) On the Line 6 support page (http://line6.com/software/) there are many, many options for downloads for the HD500X; monkey, 500x edit, updater, farm, etc., etc. Do I need to download all these when I get my gear? I'm sure when I get the manual it will answer all this, but I am just in anticipation and wanted to go ahead and find out. Thanks, Devlon
