Odd reoccurring problem. I'll be playing along with this one preset I developed. Everything is fine then I switch to solo boost with amazing tone. Tap foot-switch to go back and zero sound. The Helix is the floor model, I have the latest App & F/W, and every other preset is not showing any signs of problematic behavior, As a test I copied it to another preset location in the same setlist but several areas above. Worked a few times then back to zero volume. I don't save and tap another preset then it works fine. Also, this preset is extremely DSP loaded. So, I am not sure if I have hit some alien DSP zone where I actually got the system to let me go to max DSP +1n and it realizes I tricked it into being overloaded at some point or if there is some real issue. Anyone here experience anything close to similar? Thanks Dennis

watch4king +1 Just when I thought I'd take a break from my practice, Helix configuration, weekend gigs, and work to spend time with my wife & family ... Wow, so I used the video as a foundation and am off and running. The one thing that stands out for me is how full the preset sounds I have created using this idea. I bought a few of Glenn's presets and am in the middle of adjusting my latest ones and his to fit this A/B switching amp concept. Thanks to the OP for the question and all for their answers. Oh yea, I will be taking some of the family to the movies tomorrow evening ... just saying! ;) Dennis

I strongly advise you contact Line 6 support first to make sure they can walk you though the correct way to find, download, & install the 1.01.2 apps/driver/etc. then access the Helix via your Mac. You can ask them if that will work. Digital Igloo would know if you may be able to try is to install the Line6 Updater from the archives if it is available and use that to backup your patches via the USB interface with the system up. Hopefully it would work like the "no screen" iPhone and still connect so you can backup your custom songs/presets/setlists before you try the F/W and App update. Hopefully DI will read this and reply or someone who has had this happen before. Dennis

The issue I have with the tap tempo is that, while it worked in 1.10, it is almost unusable for me in 1.12. It will not sync and sometimes I can tap the tempo to match the band and sometimes it will not respond at all. I know about the FX having its own parameter limits & note settings since I used the M13 for many years as well as read all of DIs posts concerning proper settings. That is not the problem for me. I know how it is to work. It just seems to have a mind of its own. In short it did not display this behavior in 1.10. In fact it worked better then the two F/W versions I used before that. Hopefully the update will be soon and will work as good if not better than it did in 1.10. The drag is that 1.12 has several fixes I like so I try not to use many FX models that respond to tap tempo in my pre-sets. Dennis

Silverhead +1 I can read and read and read and then after diving in for awhile I come back and someone says something that makes what I read somewhere else segue into a solid combined idea. Of course I'll have to backup the template as a preset for those times I upgrade F/W, Apps, etc. still ... Thanks Silverhead [& DI]. Dennis

Found it ... http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Guitar-in-Impedance-and-input-pad-per-patch/800290-23508 I don't know if it matters unless Line 6 does not compile the same ideas into a singular panel. If not then I strongly suggest looking for the idea and up voting the one with the highest points ... what I did since I found three other requests for the same thing. Dennis

Final Update: Last night was great! The other guitarist finally said, "Wow ... now we have complimentary tones. Nice!" And many musicians in the audience commented on how well my playing sounded. Dennis

Is there an IdeaScale submission concerning setting the ohm values per pre-set? I realized last night two of my guitars don't really like the 22ohm or 32ohm value the rest of my line-up does. If there is I will up-vote it. If not I will create it. I just don't want to have the DI and his crew going through 8 ideas that are really all the same. Thanks Dennis

DC Cable? However, is this just for one patch or for all patches? Have the Sound Engineer pad the channel then you can check by starting Helix and switch to another preset. Run through three or four presets of various styles (clean, dirty, crunchy, crisp). If that doesn't local the initial problem then finding the root cause can be troublesome, so some troubleshooting; 1) Plugged into PA via 1/4 inch or XLR? a) If 1/4 inch go to 2 b) if XLR is Phantom power on at the board for your channel 2) Are you using multiple inputs or have you selected just the guitar input signal you want? a) if multiple try selecting just the input signal you use b) if just the one you use pad input 3) Try limiter on input signal 4) Place volume pedal at end of chain and set EXP to global so when the pedal is zeroed it starts that way then see if the sound is gone upon powerup. There are more items to check and there are wiser users in the forum than I. Hope this starts you n the path to solving your problem. Otherwise, it could be a job for Line 6 Support. Dennis

I have found that using this device with headphones has already helped me build better technique. While I have always taken an honest approach to my level of skill ... play slow & clear while building accuracy to play faster & clear ... I can hear even more of my downfalls and take corrective action. As DI has pointed out it isn't about one modeler versus another. And my only experience path has been FloorPod Plus --> HD500X --> Helix. I'm just saying the clarity and quality of the Helix has made it easier for me to hear the mistakes in technique and better adjust (and hopefully improve) my skill as I practice. Oh yea, and the metronome I use is necessary! Dennis

Simply amazing. Wonderful videos giving us a peek into the pit. Dennis

Can you describe the strange noise? <Hiss, buzz, hum, popping, ...>?? Or even quasar alien sounds? Just trying to get a feel for the type of noise. Can you record it with your phone or some other device and post it? Dennis

OK, Santa, how about a few more effects. My M13 is still available if I need it but I am also playing venues that have a small footprint as well as some with large footprints. I hope I've been a good boy and maybe there will be a few (say 5 or 6) more effects coming? At the end of the day the auto-vol and the BOSS SG-1 http://line6.ideasca...-1/818934-23508 ? In reality this Helix is all I want to use due to how great it sounds, how versatile it is, and how quickly it can be brought up and brought down. But that is just me, Dennis PS: OK, no more whining :o

The sweet sound of my guitars. In fact that is how I determine what I want to buy ... play the thing unplugged and feel the wood. I have learned from installing pickups and various types of capacitors that the electronics should only be used to bring the true sound of the guitar tone to the forefront for the rhythmic sonic presence. For solos I like to use the effects to get that spitting sax sound. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_pickhas some comparative charts on this very thought about thickness. However, the pick noise I was hearing has been next to eliminated unless i chose to have it there. Maybe that was my real problem. I couldn't NOT have it there when I wanted. Turns out the frequency of my personal favorite speaker and changing the mics I use have been the answer all along. I rehearsed with the group tonight going direct though our PA and it was the best tone I (and they said they) have heard since leaving the Mesas at home. While I still like my Mesas due to my loyalty to the Mesa company and the tube mojo they can achieve, my back likes the Helix and using my Mesas and the EVM12L specs as my yardstick has been amazing. And don't get me wrong, this Helix by Line 6 has been amazing in how close if not exact I am getting in achieving a modeled tube mojo ... REALLY!! I am still learning so the amp settings like Sag, Bias, Xbias, Hum, etc, may be my next big learning curve. Thank you all again, And thank you Line 6 Dennis

Hmmm, for me I would more be inclined to ask Santa D Igloo for some more and different effect blocks and may some minor improvements on a few echoes and reverbs ... I say minor because from what I have been able to do with the current effect blocks they sound pretty darn good. And most pretty darn great. With the number of amps already and what I have been able to do using the all the ideas for chains in this forum ... yea a few more amps may be good but more effects better (hopefully that didn't come across like Cookie Monster) Dennis PS: I want to thank the Line 6 staff for the full cut and paste "whole presets" in the editor. Major nice!

After some google searches I found that my Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 ohm Headphones have a frequency range of 5Hz to 35,000Hz. My old EVM12L speakers circa 1975-1980 have a frequency range of 80Hz to 5,000Hz. And I do have one of the new EVM12L Classic speakers I used to replace a broken one in my Mesa .50 Cal (older EL84 tube model) which show a range of 80Hz to 7,000Hz. Short tale ... if I set the high cut to 9,000Hz or even 12,000Hz I get what I ask for. Moral of the story is the Helix will give me what I ask for, the Beyerdynamic DT990 will let me hear what I ask for. Hmmm, kind of like I got what I asked for but it wasn't what I wanted. OK, so I foresee an all day Friday workout with resetting my presets. Cool thing is that I save all my presets individually AND with different versioning so I can revert back to any version of a particular preset if necessary. From what you ALL have mentioned; 1) Check frequency range of speakers I like in the real world with hi/lo cut frequency of model cabs 2) Use EQ models for fine tuning out sharpness 3) Determine best mic for me 4) Set mic between 2 to 4 inches and hear what sounds best 5) Read much more about speaker freq range as well as amp types in Helix 6) Ask more questions in this forum And I am sure I'll have more questions soon Thanks again, Dennis

Intriguing idea. I upvoted it as well. Dennis

The Mesa has the old EVM12 100W speaker. Your thoughts on the high cut just hit me like a train. Except for my Mesa Heartbreaker all my other 12" cab tube amps use the EVM12 old speaker. Don't know if that was just the luck of the draw when I would buy my amps or some subtle Freudian impulse in the depths of my mind. Hmm, time for some googling! Dennis

I just sat in my two car size garage with carpet on the whole floor and fairly well insulated (no echo in the box so to speak). I used my no mark early Mark III with just the lead/rhythm foot switch. The I used the Helix set clean and then crunchy. I think I have a youtube video bookmarked using a similar technique. Thanks. I'll keep looking and adjusting. I find that if I play too long with the headphones I get ear fatigue so I stop and rest my ears from about 30 minutes before going back. All, So far great feedback and suggestions. I have been putting all the mics at 1" but now think usually on stage my Mesa was mic'd using a Sennheiser e906 flat on the grill and 1 1/2" off center of the cone. Would that make it 0" or 2" from the speaker". I'll see if I can determine the mic in the Helix closest to the e906 Dennis

I have always used round picking when playing. I use a 1.14mm pick. So I A/B'd my Mesa versus the Helix in my headphones. Not sure why but in the headphones when using the Helix I hear my pick which I assume must be heard in the front of the house and or monitor. While this may be due to how the electronics work (which I know little about) I am wondering if anyone has tips or solutions to this in the way of microphone placement to the speakers as much as tone settings on the amp models themselves. I am not a sound engineer, just a guitarist, however, I am doing my best to learn about the engineering aspect as it appears everyone in this forum who is well versed with the Helix has a foundational knowledge of sound engineering. So I thought I'd ask the following; 1) Which choice of microphone best works for live sound 2) Which choice of microphone best works for recorded sound (or is it the same mic for both live and recording) 3) How far from the speaker should the distance in the Helix be for the various modeled microphones (1", 2", 3", or beyond) Any other help would be greatly appreciated Thanks for any direction Dennis

I'm at about 75% hardware and 25% software. Hardware for most tone setting patches. I use the software to load a base patch in two or three locations to play with for fine tuning. Then I may use the software to replace a pitch shift with a wah and save & export then import into another spot so I have two similar patches ... one with wah and one with a pitch shift. Then I use the software to rename them. And yes I have been maxing out the dual DSPs with many of the tricks I have learned in this forum (thus the wah in one and pitch shift in another system). Thank you all for that. Dennis

Yes it is more sensitive. Also I noticed the tuner icon in the lower left. Kind of cool. Where the -50 cents and +50 cents there before as well? Man I have to look more closely at the various features. Haha ... or Just Keep On Keepin' On and find my mojo tone! :D I did note that the XLR out showing line but being set to Mic when resetting to factory is an important bug to be aware of in this version. Hopefully it will get fixed soon. On that note ... it is very nice to have Line 6 let us know the issues as these upgrades are released. I really appreciate complete transparency in a company. Gives me a good feeling about the engineers' and managers' moral compass and ethics. Thank you LINE 6 Dennis

Did I miss something in 1.11 or is the tuner improved? I noticed cents, offsets, a tuner, a few other items. Or was I just blind to these features before? :o Dennis
