That's actually what I DIDN'T like about the Kemper when I tried it. You're very limited to what you can do with EQ/gain adjustments on a profile before the sound is changed negatively. So if you find a profile of an amp you like, but you want lower gain, you have to find a profile of that gain structure instead of just turning down the gain.

Helix acting as soundcard but not set as soundcard
gunpointmetal replied to Phil_GMC's topic in Helix
Everything worked before on sheer luck, lol. ASIO4All is good for some things, not recommended for use with professional/prosumer audio gear that has dedicated drivers, though, as its more or less a "skin" for regular old windows drivers to work with ASIO hardware. If you disable the Helix in Reaper and use the Scarlet as your soundcard, most of your problems should go away, and you can use the Scarlet mix software to route audio however your like. I totally understand not having time to sort all this stuff out, but sometimes you really do just have to RTFM and watch a few hours of YouTube tutorials to get started so you don't end up wasting time down the line. First thing I would do is to make sure you have the Focusrite drivers and select those from the Setup menu in Reaper, then use the the Scarlet software to handle your mixing/levels at the hardware level. -

Throw away ASIO4All. The dedicated drivers for either device are going to infinitely more stable. Or at least DISABLE HELIX in the Asio4All menu. You only want the Scarlet as your soundcard, and Helix will talk to Edit without being used as the soundcard. -
Helix acting as soundcard but not set as soundcard

All the problems would go away with ONE interface connected at a time. I can't see the benefit of having both connected unless you absolutely NEED to run Edit while you're recording, but that seems like an extra time sink for productivity to me, anyways. -

When you can, screenshot the Reaper control panel. -
Helix acting as soundcard but not set as soundcard
gunpointmetal replied to Phil_GMC's topic in Helix
And the Helix is your default Communications device, which means anything from a browser or media player is going to come out of that anyways unless you disconnect it, and for whatever reason (probably drivers) its taking over in Reaper (from your first post anyways), so you should probably just use one interface at a time for recording. -

You're going to have to go into the WINDOWS audio menu and select the Scarlett as your audio playback device. For whatever reason your computers are both defaulting to the Helix as the playback device when everything is connected.l would honestly use one or the other for tracking stuff. Or unplug the Helix from USB when you're tracking through the Scarlet. You won't be able to use Edit, but at least you won't be fighting with hardware. The Focusrite software shouldn't have anything to do with how audio is routed to the Helix, either. -
Helix 2.8 is confirmed. No release date. Not until after NAMM Jan 24-27

I don't even check there any more. Couple of mods are basically "fun police" who ban/block people for whatever they see fit, even if it falls well within forum rules. That and I can't help but poke the bear when a certain speaker designer posts his condescending lollipopry, lol. Not sure why the L6 guys don't post over here more often. -
Why does this company does not stand up to their faults?
gunpointmetal replied to dkrawk's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
It's an obviously poor design that's been plagued with drop-out/battery hatch issues since release, but they work well enough for the price that people will find a work around, or just keep buying spare hatch pieces from Full Compass, and people keep buying them even though most online reviews show the battery door problem. Given that, there's really no reason for L6 to actually address the problem at a production level. Just get an XVIVE system or whatever. -

Well, I appreciate you sharing that information since L6 doesn't like to post here often for whatever reason, and I can't do TGP anymore...too many old farts that can't take a joke and report even the slightest thing to mods. What was his personal pet feature again? Was it the coffee maker or was it polyphonic pitch stuff? -
G30 Battery Door Suddenly Broken?
gunpointmetal replied to elguapo64's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
The G30 just has a poor design for the battery door. Pretty much EVERYONE I know that's owned the unit either has the door break, or the batteries lose contact and cut out even if everything is still intact. I solved the issue for myself with a velcro cable wrap around the transmitter tightened down around the battery door. I'll probably go to Shure for a replacement soon, though, since three people in my band are using Line 6 digital wireless and we're always crossing into each-other's signals even if were far apart in channels (Bassist on 1, me on 6 vocalist on 3-4) in some rooms. Super annoying when you're sound checking and the vocals are coming out of my guitar rig. -
If you are playing something through a delay set to tap, and you tap the tempo in while its still repeating, you'll get some weird glitch/hiccup noises from the delay trails because you're adjusting them as they are playing so speeding up/slowing down will change pitch and introduce other artifacts.

Helix acting as soundcard but not set as soundcard
gunpointmetal replied to Phil_GMC's topic in Helix
If you're using your Helix as an interface for recording (or the Scarlet) your computer is treating that as it's soundcard (as it is right now, anyways) and the output level of the master volume control will raise or lower the level over EVERYTHING playing back through the Helix, including the playback from Reaper. The scarlet would function the same way without changing any settings (and that's how most soundcards work). If you have the analog outputs of the Helix connected to the Scarlet, turning up the guitar master volume will change the level going into Reaper, and may clip your inputs on the Scarlet. All of this is expected behavior. I'm not familiar with the Focusrite Software, but I would assume you can route/setup monitor mixes just like you would with a normal mixer, so you'd have to go into that software, and adjust the Helix levels to whichever output its is connected to. I would agree with Zolko, though. Pick one interface at a time to use, and make sure you have the proper settings in Reaper assigned. -
Exactly, so why buy DRM IRs that only work on Helix if L6 isn't doing something to make them "Helix Specific" other than not letting you use them on another loader?
-
I think that's pretty common knowledge. What we're saying is, why buy DRM IRs that can only be used on Helix if they don't have a feature set that makes them unique to Helix. Either in that they are options not available anywhere else, or they offer some form of advanced functionality that makes them more useful than a standard collection of IRs from the Ownhammer store, where you can buy IRs that you can load in ANY IR loader, or use in different devices if you decide something else suits your needs better in the future.
-
If they have the same/similar IRs on their website, I'd buy there. Helix-only IR files are super lame, IMO, if they don't do something in the Helix that standard IR files do. If they gave you like a "blended" IR that let your adjust mic position or something, I could see it being worth it, but as it is, it's basically DLC from L6 if you buy from them. If you decide to move to something from Helix, you lose your IR files.
-
Did you have to do much work in Ubuntu to get that to work, or was it plug and play?
-
I just don't get the proprietary format unless there's some proprietary use.
-
That's fine, but if there's no "Helix Only" functionality with them, I'm not gonna spend money on IRs that I can't drop into any IR loader with any amp sim.
-
Are the cab models on? The "bee farting in a bottle" thing sounds like maybe you're not running it through a cabinet model. Not gonna lie, my Helix is head and shoulders above the sound I can get out of my Firehawk, but the Firehawk is far from sounding BAD in any capacity.
-
So L6 is now selling IRs that ONLY work on Helix? Lame sauce, unless they offer some level of adjustment you can't do with a normal IR.
-
Any way to upload a clip recorded via USB? Honestly it sounds like you got a faulty unit (which happens in large-scale manufacturing occasionally) and if that's the case, L6 will take care of you (given it was purchased new, recently, anyways). But muddy is not the default sound of these units, that's for sure.
-
Not 100% sure how that works in the Stomp, but I'd think so.
-
Nope, you have to do it with two different channels, or use one amp and assign the gain to the pedal.
-
I don't see why you couldn't do that. I've heard some cool stuff with a tremolo and a gate, too. I have a momentary "freak out" switch in a couple of my patches that is just a 2 octave pitch jump when the switch is pressed and off when I let go. It's a lot of fun.
