  1. If it had patch spillover, it would be a non-issue for me, but I understand that this product wasn't designed for my use (even though its 98% of the way there) and good job on Line 6 for getting me to buy a $300 more expensive product!
  2. Are you using some real-time FX in your DAW on top of an already effected signal from the Helix?
  3. I get it, but the argument is semantics and not real world application. If you can load 16 blocks on one path in the Floor, logic would imply that a single processor version could handle an equal number of blocks, but that would require a larger (or at least more thought-out-to-accommodate UI), which was obviously not the idea of the product. It's a shame for my use case, because I gotta spend more money for something this product could theoretically do (if the software allowed for it).
  4. That's not really dynamic DSP like the bigger siblings. Well, with the massive hardware limit, even with the exact same DSP it would never do what the other ones do, but that obviously wasn't the intention of the product. I was jazzed on the Stomp as a backup, but half of my live patches NEED at least 8-10 blocks or gapless preset switching with spillover, so now its back to pinching pennies for an LT as a backup.
  5. I personally think its a little silly to not allow dynamic DSP just like the big Helix, but I don't think that as of now the display set-up is designed to scale for more block, or scroll for more block. They probably insulated themselves from a lot of "I can put 10 blocks in this patch, but only 6 in this other one, what gives?!" posts/support tickets by restricting it, though.
  6. They're just dropping hints about opening up the software for more updates and functionality, plus the HXFX/STOMP/LT are newer and using the same software, so I imagine they'll want to keep the platform going for awhile. Could see them working on something sort of like the Boss synth stuff, where a separate box has a few Helix FX, but mostly polyphonic synthesizer stuff that works with Variax and hopefully audio, but I doubt we'll see a real Helix replacement any time soon.
  7. That doesn't make any sense! I'd think swells with pads/synth sounds would be pretty standard.
  8. Probably the ease of use. I think he's mostly using it for FX.
  9. Something was adjusted in the range the tuner works in. I couldn't tune my 9-string guitars or my buddy's 5-string bass until 2.70 because it wouldn't accurately pick up A0, and it does now.
  10. So did you reinstall 2.70? This is definitely some odd behavior. Not that is should matter, or that you're not already doing this, but I usually download the FW file and do the update with that local file versus downloading it during updating.
  11. I really don't think that's a firmware "problem" unless something went wrong, which is what it sounds like by your inability to load set lists. I'm all updated and haven't seen any similar issues. The tuner reading a note when nothing is being played sounds like an interference issue. Did it happen when the pickup volume was off, too?
  12. And it will actually tune all the way down to A0!
  13. Defaults are usually the "natural" way the pedal reacts. If you grab your delay time and crank it really fast while notes are ringing, you'd get a similar effect.
  14. Noise rock and special FX. You can get pretty predictable glitches if you have a delay with some mods all set to specific tempos/divisions. Kind of a cool freakout effect if you want it.
  15. Still don't get why DI and Frank seem way more present over at TGP than on their own forums, but whatever, I guess.
  16. I've gotten to the point where if its this kind of show I just grab the XLR off the guitar cab and plug it into my Helix. If a sound guy is complaining about having to move mics, just bring your own mic cable to run back to the area he seems to think mic cables live, so its not a problem (and he's also probably a lollipop sound guy if that's an inconvenience enough for him to complain about). Unless he's kinda dumb he's gonna have to adjust the gain and EQ for someone throwing a different head on the backline cab or plugging in different pedals or whatever anyways, so again, unless the sound guy is a dolt, this shouldn't be an issue. I can't wait till these old dinosaurs retire so I don't have to pretend to be nice to people who SHOULD have an understanding of all this stuff given its freaking 2018 and going direct shouldn't be a problem for any sound guy. We just did a show with an older guy running a huge analog system for sound, and apparently he usually just does sound for his classic rock cover band, so when I started explaining to him that we have kick triggers, backing track DI, and that our guitars and bass were all DI he seemed a little apprehensive, but once we got all hooked up and he started dialing everything in he's grinning ear to ear, because he barely has to do anything to any of the channels we sent him besides EQ for the room and set levels. Told me after out set that he's gonna talk to his guys about going direct.
  17. But I really, really like beating this particular horse.
  18. I'm not buying model packs for my $1500 processor. Is there something specific you're waiting for or you just really need new toys in your old toy? Surprised someone who uses terms like "millennial insults" and "snowflake" has the capacity to even complete firmware updates anyways.
  19. What amp model/cab model/mic model are you using? There's nothing that Precision Drive can do that you can't do inside the Helix (it's basically a TS9 with a gate built in and and a sharper mid-range peak), so you should be able to get 99% of the way there without any additional pedals. Things to keep in mind when you're running with Mesa and a real guitar cab is to turn off cab modeling on the Helix and go into the FX return if you plan on using the amp models in the Helix (stacking preamps and speaker cabs is gonna be mud city) and with the power cab make sure its in Full-Range mode if you're using the cab models on the Helix, or make sure the cab models are OFF on the helix if you're using speaker modeling on the PowerCab. If the Mesa was getting you most of the way there on its own, maybe try running it in four-cable-method and using a boost/comp/OD before the amp and an EQ in the loop to sculpt it. I use EMGs and really hot Seymour duncan pickups on my guitars and the Input Pad can help, but I don't find it to be necessary for a tight tone.
  20. Yeah, I was pretty pumped when they announced it thinking I could probably just get a mini EXP pedal and have a decent backup rig for the big Helix without giving up the core sounds, but I either need more blocks, or faster patch switching with trails, so I'm still probably gonna have to grab an LT.
  21. I see you're trying to connect to HX Edit, but have you tried reconnecting to the Updater? I would download the FW separately and save it to your computer, then try running the Updater again and installing the FW from the hard drive instead of downloading it through the updater.
  22. Unless you already have the MIDI controller. If you building a whole new rig around the Stomp and need to start adding external hardware, it probably makes more sense to just get the LT. Make some friends at GC who can hook you up with the Friends and Family discount and its not that much more. I do think some of the "crippling" on the stomp isn't necessary. If someone does have a MIDI controller, why shouldn't they be able to access more snapshots. And why doesn't it use "dynamic DSP" like the helix where you can add blocks till it can't do it anymore? Seems silly to me. I was all stoked to grab one for a backup, then seeing the six block limit, the three snapshot limit, there is a still a patch gap even though the DSP is being limited....I'd rather just stick with my Firehawk FX.
  23. If you get a chance, mind running a DI helix preset into the front end with everything disabled and let me know how it sounds. For me to be comfortable using the 3.5mm jack I'd need some way of secure it at the input to the amp, and the adapters that connect to the 1/4" cables. If it works the way I want it in mono, I might just wait till the warranty expires and have a pro split the input into two 1/4" hardwired jacks, lol.
  24. Just set the high and low pass where it sounds good. There's almost nothing of use in a guitar signal over 8-9kHz and you've gotta be able to hear dog whistles to notice a difference with it set to 20kHz. For recording it's not unusual to cut the guitar off at 6-10kHz because pretty much everything above there is "air" and noise and is going to be eaten up in the air by cymbals.
  25. Did a quick search and didn't find anything on the subject. I haven't seriously used Spider amp for anything in a looooong time, but I remember the version I had at the time had the option to bypass all the processing and go straight from the input to amplifier. Does the Spider V 240 (combo) have this capability? I've been looking at 2x12 cabs to run my Helix into (long story about FRFR being awesome but sound guys and small rooms not being PA monitor as a guitar rig friendly) and realized for what I'm paying for a cab I could grab one of these combos. Tried one out at GC and it's LOUD and PUNCHY, which is exactly what I want it for, but I'd like to utilize it as an amp/cab for my Helix and I'm not real keen on using a 1/4" - 3.5mm adapter to run into the AUX input, plus I really only need mono for Live use anyways. TL;DR - is there a way to plug into the instrument input and bypass all the processing to use it as a makeshift PowerCab?
