  1. Downloads page selector -Product = Variax -Software = All -Whatever your platform and OS is. There is Flash 3.10, Monkey and Workbench. Workbench HD won't recognize the earlier Variax. HD is for JTV (Flash v2.00 or higher), Standard and Shuriken.
  2. If the tubes don't solve it, then it's more than likely what I suspect it is, and that requires an authorized service center who knows the product. Log a support ticket in your Line 6 account. If you replace the tubes, make certain they are the specified Electro-Harmonix versions. No JJ's, Mesas, Groove Tubes or Tung-Sols. These are hybrid (analog/digital) amps, and they are not forgiving of modifications. Use the specified Electro-Harmonix tubes. There should be something about that in the Knowledge Base.
  3. Either vacuum tube (valve) microphonics, or a problem with the processor board (which will require servicing by a Line 6 authorized service center) on the amp. How old are the tubes in the amp? That is assuming that your L6 Link (110-Ohm) cable is an L6 Link cable and not a (50-Ohm) mic cable.
  4. Correct. Thanks. So many times I've repaired these, because of one of the outputs going down for that reason.
  5. Slinky and piezos never did mix well. Signal tends to be thin and weak, and that's not good when in Alt Tune either. If the string tension is different, that will have an affect on the set-up, and aspects mentioned by crusinon2. Might want to have your set-up checked and if need be, adjusted.
  6. Don't go there. Something else is at play here. Leave it to a Line 6 authorized service center that knows the product, or you'll risk find yourself down a rabbit hole you can't get out of.
  7. Wondered that myself, but it only occurs with hummers. If it was the cable I would expect it pop and crackle on both hummer and single coil. Unless there's something odd with the cable ground, that it would only occur with the humbuckers.
  8. If it's not the tubes, then it can be one of two things. And that will have to be serviced by an Line 6 authorized service center.
  9. Certain that it's L6 Link AES/EBU 110-Ohm cable and not 50-Ohm mic cable?
  10. Hmmm,... maybe Ft Worth. They're pretty good at working on JTV's, but mod-ing a JTV,... hmmm.
  11. Unicorn is a nice myth, but still myth,.... One is north of me in San Luis Obispo, another does custom work in (I think it's) Chino, CA, and there's one of James Tyler's guys who heads up the American builds, and a guy couple guys in Canada (Ontari-ari-o,... as the Trent Severn song goes). Met most of these guys and traded notes. And there's a fellow in Northampton, UK (my opposite number as it were), who used to do guitars for us back when we had a location in Rugby, and now hung out his own shingle (he's really good). And then there's me. Done stock work and custom mods over the last four decades, plus. But here, only do the custom stuff for our product endorsers as favor for the boss, like the two jobs I did for lefty player Carlos Rios (Chick Corea, Stevie NIcks and others). "If wishes were horses, I'd have a stable full of Unicorns"--- "Send me your tired, your modified Variaxes, yearning for some TLC, and to be functional again"---
  12. Not just a Pacifica. It got passed around and we players put our two sense into the design. So it's a different kind of Pacifica/Variax. It has Variax electronics in it.
  13. Getting under the pick-guard won't be an easy fix, especially if it's been modified. Not something to try yourself. Sounds like someone messed it up good, not one of the four or five people in the Americas I trust to do a mod and not mess it up. Sounds like it needs some of my TLC. Get with customer support on this one.
  14. I don't see any in 3rd party sources (like Full Compass), or in our web store. Make sure your guitar is registered in your account, then log a support ticket, see what the options are.
  15. Since you're in the UK, you might want to give Mark Wright Music a ring. See if there's some he can source from somewhere. I'll check for cannibals here. The 700 and 700 Acoustic were at the latter end of their phasing out when I came on here almost ten years ago. So it's been going thru whatever parts are left. Have a set of cricket pitches here in the San Fernando Valley, quite the ex-pat community, so I've been learning about cricket. We'll have to strike up a pick-up game next time I'm across The Pond. Love to try out what I've learned. Go Chelsea.
  16. Click on the product and it's there with the price and availability info. Cable length, ground lead length, curvature of the plate matching the curvature of the body of the guitar,.... number of things to consider. Which is why getting the correct match is important. When it comes to substitutions, don't do it unless,... you are really, really good at this, and know and have lots and lots of experience with these products.
  17. There is a minor difference. Full Compass notes on the jack plates typically say what they go to. Use it with whatever is specified in their parts notes, substitutions tend to lead to unforeseen bad surprises down the road.
  18. Use the specified valves from EH. That's what these amps are designed for. These amps are not like the all analog amps of the 1960's and 70's. They are not forgiving of modifications, or even of valves. The difference in the characteristic curve between valve brands can cause problems. This is not an all analog amp, the digital and analog sections have expectations of one another. Mess with that and problems occur. Use the specified EH valves.
