  1. Truss rod,... -Fall away between fret-8 and fret-9 is standard with most guitars. Best bet starting point. -Adjust in 1/8-turn increments. Hard turn one way, then the other is the quickest way to warp a neck. -After adjusting, give it the afternoon to settle in. This is not an immediate setting like string action or string distance from pick-ups. -Use the correct size hex head tool for this. If you strip it, you're done. Either you will have a boat oar, or the neck will have to be swapped out.
  2. Modifications are not Line 6 supported. And we don't have a custom shop to do that. It will sound different, tone color will sound different in a PRS body.
  3. From the link to BTPA,... "Variax Digital Input Cables Compatible with PODВ®xt Live, Bass PODВ® xt Live, and Vetta II's FBVв„ў foot controller. Quality made and tested in the U.S.A. with tactical dual jacketed ethernet cable"--- This cable will not connect to an FBV foot controller.
  4. The -4 board is for the 89F only,... there is an error there at that link. And you can't use that board on everything. You can't willy-nilly, mix-n-match hardware. And re-Flash the board with Line 6 Monkey won't help if it's the wrong guitar for board you have.
  5. "Go to a guitar show. There are numerous talented builders out there who would be able to accomplish this Herculean task in their sleep"--- True. Well, the four that I refer to are four that I know of. "I'm not claiming to be one of them, but they exist"--- Not sure if I am, but I've done my share of custom rebuilds repairs to a variety of kinds of guitars, and my share of JTV custom mods for specific projects for my bosses for special clients. Haven't had a complaint yet over the last four decades plus, so far. I do sometimes design and build stuff in my sleep, a kind of practice run before the main event.
  6. Four JTV's (59, 69, 89, 89F), the Standard and the Shuriken. There will be a hardware difference as well. Program board not correctly programmed for the correct switch configuration and either the Alt Tune select won't light up on the one you select, or half the Model won't show up. Hardware and programming have to be correctly matched up, otherwise you'll have to go into Workbench HD and custom load each Model to where you want it.
  7. Main Board,... ... the hardware is the same, but the programming for each of the six versions is different. If you were to choose the wrong one for your non Line 6 guitar, you would have a problem. There are maybe four people in US and Canada, who do custom work and have done this, that I know can do it without messing it up. And yes,... silverhaed is correct, if it gets messed up, there is no Line 6 warranty attached. It's at your own risk. It is unsupported modifications. I can't walk you through it, but I can warn you of what not to do. So, don't do this unless you know what you are doing, or know someone who knows Line 6 Variax enough to do this. I can tell you that Variax electronics will have a different tone color and sound in a different body.
  8. Gibson specs will be useless. These aren't Gibsons, and I don't know of any Gibsons that have piezos or active electronics. String height-to-pick ups have to be set so that warbling won't occur and get amplified by the piezos when in model mode. Have to cuddle this cat under the chin a little different than other cats. They are not entirely the same.
  9. In Ibwhite75's case, it's something else. And it's something that can affect the transformer. Needs to go to an authorized service center for a going over. You've had the amp since 2011, when was the last time the tubes were changed out?
  10. "Withholding set-up specs will not prevent idiots from damaging their guitars...it's nothing but wishful thinking"--- Maybe,... but the number of botched set-up jobs ending up on my bench, dropped like a greased bowling ball shortly after we stopped that.
  11. "... its odd that this spec is a well kept secret"--- Originally it wasn't. Too many people out there telling us they were guitar techs who knew what they were doing, ended up showing us that they didn't. So we ended that. You wouldn't believe the botched jobs that ended up on my bench. And there is the interaction between magnetics and piezos. Settings have to be balanced out, or things like warbling, hollowing and other artifacts occur in the audio output. There are some guitar techs out there who aren't Line 6 authorized and are really good, so they do a fine job doing set-ups on Line 6 guitars in their regions, even without the specs. The Line 6 authorized have access to service info,.. and me, if needed.
  12. Need to use the cable that is best suited for the frequency bandwidth being used. CAT5's, CAT6 and CAT7 are different in subtle ways regarding frequency bands being used. "Technically",... it's only better when the right cable is used for the right bandwidth region used being the application. Which is why speaker cable is not used for radio antennae. CAT6 and CAT7 are used for higher data rate frequencies that are not used at Line 6. I see this all the time. Better speed cable, isn't better, for lower speed data rates. It does matter. I had this discussion with Steve Lampen of Belden cable Co, earlier this year at the trade show, get some more info and clarity on this, since this has been a topic here on the forum. CAT5 for use with Line 6 product.
  13. 700 Acoustic, Standard and JTV-69S,... could be a jack plate connection or something going on with the main boards. If it's an issue with the cables and the Helix,... could be the in selector isn't selected for the VDI or Variax. Might be disabled on the edit page.
  14. If you change string gauges, a full set-up should be done,... by an authorized service center who know the product. Changing gauges, changes the tension and therefore changes the set-up. Have a full set-up done.
  15. CAT6 would be the wrong bandwidth for that data rate frequency. CAT5 is the one to use.
  16. Use the VDI with the Canon/Neutrik shell on both ends, for the cable to play through. The ones without the shells can jiggle, resulting in indeterminacy that can result in damaging transient volts on the supply line, or intermittent ground/commons.
  17. If the shorter VDI cables have the Canon shell on one side only, then they are not meant for playing through. They are for using with the interface device for connecting to Monkey and Workbench/Workbench HD. They should be CAT5 Ethercon. The VDI with Canon shells on both ends are CAT5 or CAT5e UTP, for playing through.
  18. "... some older VDI cables are cat5, JTV and Variax Standard need cat6"--- The determining characteristic regarding which cable to use, is the frequency band being used. The data rate frequency used is for CAT5 cable frequency bandwidths. Use CAT5 versions of the cable. Going to CAT6 or CAT7 is for higher data rates and frequencies outside of what is used in these products. There are stiffer and there more flexible CAT5 cables. There are those CAT5 cables with more shielding or less shielding. The determining factor is the frequency bandwidth, don't go outside of that range. For those who want to go further into this, Steve Lampen of Belden Cable writes books and gives talks on this stuff. Very knowledgeable guy who has been with Belden a long time. And I've talked with him about this earlier this year at AES and NAMM trade shows and have since messaged with him as well, since it's been a subject here on the Forums.
  19. Best to use the interface device. Old Workbench doesn't like to see other Line 6 devices running at the same time.
  20. abonica is right,... Variax is still here. A new Variax comes out and is added to the selection,... then all the sudden the present model is going away. Gossip and rumors every time. Variax is all still here. I wish people wouldn't shoot their mouths off without knowing the facts first. As far as MFI goes, that is a post from 2016, out of date, and incorrect. Thank you abonica for setting that straight. Workbench and Helix,... are you using Workbench or Workbench HD? If using Workbench HD, that's for JTV and more recent models using Flash v2.00 or later. Older Variax data formats (300, 500, 600, 700 and basses) will not be compatible Workbench HD and the v2.00+ data format from a dozen years ago.
  21. #10 x 1-1/4" (x2) #10 x 1-1/2" (x2) Both black Zinc plating. There are 4 spacers that go with the 4 screws. No info on those.
  22. That's a bridge pick-up. http://www.fullcompass.com/category/Guitar-Parts2.html?brand_id=&rewrite_name=Guitar-Parts2&query=&categoryOrder=Bestselling&brand[]=LN6&view=&ipp=24 ... for Line 6 parts in general. There would be a neck pick-up in there as well.
  23. Switch is on the back of the unit. It's for selecting iOS device jack or the USB device jack.
  24. She's a long time friend and classmate from school. She's living elsewhere these days, so we don't hang much, so we stay in touch through social media. Her dad used to have some great stories about being a Fed. Yeah, Hill Street,... I've crossed paths with Bruce Weitz (Det Belker) and Michael Warren (Hill) at the super markets in my area every now and then. Love their work.
