  1. abonica is right,... Variax is still here. A new Variax comes out and is added to the selection,... then all the sudden the present model is going away. Gossip and rumors every time. Variax is all still here. I wish people wouldn't shoot their mouths off without knowing the facts first. As far as MFI goes, that is a post from 2016, out of date, and incorrect. Thank you abonica for setting that straight. Workbench and Helix,... are you using Workbench or Workbench HD? If using Workbench HD, that's for JTV and more recent models using Flash v2.00 or later. Older Variax data formats (300, 500, 600, 700 and basses) will not be compatible Workbench HD and the v2.00+ data format from a dozen years ago.
  2. #10 x 1-1/4" (x2) #10 x 1-1/2" (x2) Both black Zinc plating. There are 4 spacers that go with the 4 screws. No info on those.
  3. That's a bridge pick-up. http://www.fullcompass.com/category/Guitar-Parts2.html?brand_id=&rewrite_name=Guitar-Parts2&query=&categoryOrder=Bestselling&brand[]=LN6&view=&ipp=24 ... for Line 6 parts in general. There would be a neck pick-up in there as well.
  4. Switch is on the back of the unit. It's for selecting iOS device jack or the USB device jack.
  5. She's a long time friend and classmate from school. She's living elsewhere these days, so we don't hang much, so we stay in touch through social media. Her dad used to have some great stories about being a Fed. Yeah, Hill Street,... I've crossed paths with Bruce Weitz (Det Belker) and Michael Warren (Hill) at the super markets in my area every now and then. Love their work.
  6. "Patents are generally reviewed by the USPTO prior to granting, but numerous ridiculously non-inventive/obvious patents are granted every day"--- Probably. But, it has to have some functional change or function difference, enough to be considered for a Patent. Simply drawing a smiley face on the outside of a black box won't do it. Nice marketing gimmick maybe. But for a patent to be awarded, it has to be something relating to a functional innovation, no matter how small, or seemingly insignificant that innovation may appear to be. Example: You can't patent something in nature,... but what you do with it and how you use it, is patent-able. You can't patent an electron, but what you do with it and how you manipulate in a circuit, is. How you tweak an IR may be copyright-able, taking someone elses', then putting your own name on it is piracy, plagiarism, fraud and forgery. And if crossing state lines, could be a Federal beef. And if using the internet, it would be wire fraud using a Federally regulated utility. "I'd bet the same thing happens with commercial IRs on Fractal products"--- don't know how stringent they are about it. So please, be careful out there, stay out of trouble. *I know these things because I used to hang with the daughter of a Fed.
  7. Support Ticket is in. Someone in Support will be getting with you on that.
  8. Read the ticket, not something you can do yourself. Sounds like it needs to come back to me.
  9. Carefully pull up the knob and engage the Models without the knob on the shaft. Unplug it before putting the knob back on. If it lights up with the knob off the shaft, then it's a mechanical alignment issue. If it doesn't light up, then it can be be one of four things, and will need to be checked out and serviced by someone who knows the product, or come back to me for some TLC.
  10. Procedure for a global reset to factory default settings,... http://line6.com/support/manuals/m13 ... on page- 2.4 in the Advanced Manual.
  11. You were tied in using the VDI cable? If so, there is a "Force- On/Off" in the edit page to "Force" or "Don't Force" of the floor effects products. When enabled, it "forces" the Variax to use a preset in the the floor effects unit. http://line6.com/support/manuals/helix Owner's manual, p21-22.
  12. Did you download the drivers for the brand of MIDI interface that you are using? For instance, if using an M-Audio interface, then the compatible drivers for that version interface, for the computer OS, has to be used.
  13. Yeah crusinon2, just confirming and backing you on that one. Very good. There are still those out there that think climate affects on instruments only occurs with acoustic guitar and violins, and that electric solid body guitars are immune. Nice to know you and I know better. Thanks. Yeah, glad to set the guy in Florida straight on that one. Haven't had it back since. I think he gets it now. Great Lakes region, Florida Gulf Coast and Eastern Seaboard from the Potomac on north are the one that require more attention when doing a set-up from California.
  14. No assumptions, climate does have an affect. That's why some touring bands take gear with them for doing set-ups. There's even a company that makes portable set-up jigs just for this reason. It can be taken to a Line 6 authorized service center under warranty and dial it in. "... no one is storing their guitars outside"--- actually, there's a guy on the Florida Gulf Coast, on the beach, near Pensacola that did. It was a mess, and after I worked on it he took my advice and stowed it in a gig bag inside the house, instead of the front porch. "... when you take it out of the box, it'll take a couple of days to adjust to the environment... if you leave it on a stand and don't play a note, 3 days later something will have changed. There's no point in setting anything up until it gets where it's going"--- crusinon2, yes, less with some, more with others.
  15. Yes, 2016. Set-up is done at various points of location, including the main distribution hub. Without knowing the end user's destination ahead of time, a set-up across country would be difficult without knowing the climate of the location of the end user. The retailer would know the climate and be able to set-up for that. Some retailers have that.
  16. "I'll see if the Line 6 will allow the local Service Center to pull the processing board and ship that to them"--- Going through the service center and having them deal with it is an option. They can send the PCBA back for repair, then they can re-install and do the check outs and such. It's a way to do it.
  17. Set-up doesn't affect tone, but string gauge change often does. String gauge change, changes the tension,... and that affects the set-up. When set-up is affected, it may need to be dialed in. No correlation I'm aware of between tone and set-up. Tone and string gauge,... yes. String gauge, tension and set-up,... yes.
  18. There is a "Force Mode" in the Edit Pages in many of the floor effects products, where the floor effects determines the guitar Model brought up as a preset. There is a Force/Don't Force setting in those edit pages. I don't recall off-hand where that is in the Helix.
  19. Kevin Cadogan,... http://www.riffmagazine.com/qa/xeb-ex-3eb-adds-member/ Has an odd Model/Alt Tune configuration like that on his customized orange 69S (see the link). I've serviced it a few couple of times,... nice guitar! Makes use of the 5-Way toggle for quicker changes.
  20. Using the edit capabilities on the HD500. Carlos Rios does it that way, that is, controlling everything from the HD500/500X. He almost never uses the controls on his Variax's, it's all done from the 500/500X.
  21. Since you would not be able to do that thru the Variax, it would have to be done looping it thru the FX Send and Returns on HD500. Last time I saw him in concert, they were using the Meyers Holographic Sound with adaptive filtering. An colleague and I were acquainted with Dan Healy and would get invited t see their set-up after the shows. Dan liked showing the gear to those who understood it. Different set-up than the OBEL example. Both are interesting ways of getting some interesting effects.
  22. No. Line 6 wireless product operates in the 2.4GHz band. The ranges you mention are more for old style consumer cordless phone and other wireless communications not used anymore in the 630MHz and 650MHz band.
  23. "Start a support ticket to make Line 6 aware of the situation"--- already informed some people here. Logging a Support Ticket is a good idea.
