Shocking Experience
psarkissian replied to MaxTravelor's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Both Brits one in Wales. Have to remember, they're on a 230VAC system over there in the UK. It's a bigger jolt. I was 19 or 20 when I got thrown across the garage. Thankful it was just 120VAC. -

Agreed. It can hurt. Got thrown airborne across a 20 x 20 garage once from a jolt, during band practice. Still don't know I survived that one. Maybe because it was a quick big one and didn't get a good grab of me. It smarted for some time after. -

Different outlet should isolate you from that, if it's about 20ft away or more that might help. Google search Bill Whitlock, he's expert on isolation, grounding and shielding. Anything he says on the subject is worth listening to. He and two other guys gave a lecture on this subject of churches and large venues at the October 2016 AES Convention in Los Angeles. -
How's the sustain on your 89F?
psarkissian replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Robert Sarzo of Queensryche has a pair of 89F guitars going into a HD500X and a DT50 amp. He gets some pretty good shred and metal out of it. -

JTV-89F -> Variax Cable -> POD HD 500X 500X is plugged into a power strip,... what about the Mixing Board and PA System, what power strip are they plugged into? And silverhead and robdog03 is asking as well. -
Check the License Manager and log a support ticket. Probably just an update configure thing. There also maybe a limit as to how far an X3 Live can upgrade to. Check with Custom Support to see at what point that might be, and what Mac OS requirements are with that.

No particular reason, I just like used instruments, a certain character about them, like an old Strad or Guarneri violin. And like I said previous, spend time with it, play it. Even my store bought guitars were floor models or exchanges. They felt right after playing them. Like I said earlier about guitars, paraphrasing the Bard,.... "If the play is the thing, then play the thing". "Or did you repair them before you bought them and haven't had any trouble since?"--- Thought I mentioned that here, or maybe on another similar post. Yeah, these four came across my bench, mostly for cosmetics, or a couple minor things.

If there's a problem with Modeling, it's dealt with at the hub or by me, here at corporate HQ. If something occurs at the retailer, they send it to me. I get floor demos back from retailers as well. A number of things can occur between point-A and point-B, and we try to nip them in the bud, as the saying goes. There are people at the hub, there are people at some of the retailers and I do the deep dive if needed.
-
The guitars get checked and a set-up done on them at the main distribution hub. They are then sent all over the country, and there may be some that might have fallen out of adjustment along the way, or the climate affected the set-up. So getting a chance to play it before buying it, is usually a good thing. And none of my guitar guitars were new out of the box. They had all been in someone else's hands before I got them. Never had a problem with any of them, including my 4 JTV's. And I know silverhead, he's one of the sharpest tools in the shed here. We've both been doing this a long time. We don't count in years, we count in decades. It's why he's an Uber Guru here.

I don't mean to sound picky, but, the use of the term "demodulate the ground",... might want to use a different terminology, since you can't demodulate a ground. There are ground ties and ground lifts, and re-establishing a ground plane. I sort of get where you're going with that. There are IEEE, AES, UL and ISO standards for grounding and connecting mixed signal devices. Unfortunately, not all companies comply to those standards. You also need to be certain that the correct cables are used for the correct applications, as short-cuts or cutting corners tend to create problems.
-
There is a grounding difference between devices, this is allowing the digital clock to demodulate into the audio band. This can occur with what is called a "mixed signal device". And you seem to be trying to use more than one in the same set-up, which complicates things further.

Find a place that has some one display as floor models, play them, get the feel of them, how they work, how they sound. The best skewed perspective is your own experience with it. That's the way it was with all 11 of my guitars (four are JTV's). Played them, got to know them, get the lay-of-the-land with them. But then again, I've also spent the last six years servicing JTV's. In the end, it's all about the playing of it.

2.00 is no more, unless there's a link to legacy version, 2.01 is as far back as it goes. 2.04 is the current version. http://line6.com/software/index.html

Secret? No. It's not a regular occurrence thing. I have had four JTV's for five to six years now, and haven't had that problem yet. There's a spacer thing we have to deal with it, that I put inside to help it. It's cut special for that. =========================== Rosie McDonald? Do you mean Rosie O'Donnell?

Cable length and impedance can be key when it comes to usage. You wouldn't use RG6 coax cable for speaker cable, it wouldn't function correctly at any length for that use, regardless of bandwidth. Playing guitar is a difference bandwidth than data rate bandwidth for updates and such. All I'm saying is, for optimum performance, use what's optimum for application.
-
There are two kinds of cable, the VDI/CAT5 for use with the guitar, one is for interfacing with a computer to use Workbench and do program updates. The 25ft VDI with the Canon XLR type shells on both ends is for playing the guitar through. It's best if you don't try to use the HD500 as an interface for updating or Workbench usage, that should be done using the interface device that came with the guitar.
-
Even better, it saves you a trip back.
-
Are you using the VDI cable that has the Cannon connector shell on both ends? Is the HD500 in "Force" or "Don't Force" mode for JTV patch changes? The knob manufacturing simple fix,... that doesn't on all guitars, all the time. We have a fix for that, if and when it occurs. And it's not paper wad. BTW,... CAT5e is not totally the same as regular CAT5. There are several grades of CAT5, depending on the application and frequency band you are operating in. So make certain that whatever CAT5 you use is for your application and frequency band, because not all CAT5 is made the same.

Return it, exchange it. It sound like something a service tech needs to get into, if it's doing that.

New to variax. Plan to get Shuriken. What software to download?
psarkissian replied to nippyjun's topic in Shuriken
It's a different animal. You have to cuttle it under the chin a little differently. If I can learn to do that, anyone can. Honored to be one of the few who have played both the Australian prototype and the one Stevic is playing in the video. Both nice guitars. -
Not privy to that on that level. And if I did, I wouldn't say, being proprietary and all. Hexaphonics,... maybe getting better, but not as cross-talk resistant as you might think, or they'd still be used to good affect in guitar synths, like they used to be. With Alt Tuning there is something commonly referred as "dual tone effect", where you hear the standard tuned pitch coming off the guitar, and the Alt Tuned pitch coming through the amp, simultaneously. Something to be aware of with guitars that have Alt Tuning capabilities.
