  1. Probably not. There are any four ways for that failure to occur. It needs to be properly troubleshooted by a tech to determine which one. Return it to Sweetwater, either they will deal with it, or they will send it to me. Not a common issue.
  2. Unless you have experience dealing with valve amps, keep you fingers out of the insides. Touch a line the wrong way and you get zapped,... even if it's unplugged. One good capacitor discharge into you and you're done. And if you're prone to heart conditions, it's worse. It hurts when you get zapped by a capacitor. Leave it to the techs with the experience.
  3. Have it checked by a Line 6 authorized service center near you,... http://line6.com/find/service_center/ Keep your fingers out of the innards of the amp, shock hazard is significant, and that hurts.
  4. "Surely a dummy coil would affect tone... "--- yes, it would. Bulk resistance of pick-ups between 6k to 8k Ohms, or there will be problems. Can't treat this like a passive guitar circuit. Line 6 doesn't support mods to its products, or support re-repair or mods. So if you error, it's at the end user's risk, s be careful.
  5. Right, it's something that's been part of Variax series for sometime. Page-13 and -14 in the Shuriken manual for Custom Alt Tuning.
  6. It's either on the Alt Tune selector (1/2 Down) or Workbench HD. If you're looking to create it in the Custom patch, Workbench HD is it.
  7. Stay clear of florescent lights. In your case, it's probably 50Hz.
  8. Stay clear of florescent lights. In your case, it's probably 50Hz?
  9. Loose ground lead, dual tone artifact because of intonation or some other aspect of the guitar set-up. Should be troubleshooted by an Line 6 authorized tech who knows the insides. Too many variables and reasons for it to fail that way.
  10. http://line6.com/find/service_center/ Should be three in the Sydney area, one in Newcastle and another one in Wollogong. If you're having the exact same problem, then chances are it may be a hardware, not software issue. Line 6 authorized tech needs to go underneath and determine, and repair it.
  11. Maybe I should be more specific,... have a look at the Model selections for the Shuriken, compared to the Model selections of the other Variaxes. Stevic came up with some of his own, that we put into the Shuriken. The selector knob on the Shuriken reflects this. Driving a bassoon Model from a string instrument would probably require more CPU overhead to get the double reed emboucher correct, than it would from say a MIDI Wind controller. Giraffe mating call would require more memory, maybe a wavelet decomposition would be useful there. Hmmm,... string initiated overdrive bassoon,... giraffe mating call with pitch shift,... interesting. Like blending a sitar with a bagpipe. Nice.
  12. Do not use rechargeables in an older Variax. Certain IC's of that era don't respond or work well in a low battery volt situation, and can become damaged. It is not meant to be used that way. If the processor board gets damaged, it might not be repairable. And I don't know if there are anymore replacement boards available, should you damage the board. Don't go there. Page-3 of the user's manual specifies Alkaline batteries. Don't deviate from that. Line 6 does not support modifications to its products, and doesn't not endorse self repair on its product.
  13. crusinon2,... true, up to a point. The Shuriken has some patches designed by Stevic with our guys here, also known as artist patches. So the Modeling is the same, just some of the Model patches selections are different.
  14. Agreed,... what eenymason said. Log a support ticket on this one.
  15. Not a conspiracy,... just a different species of Variax. And so there are different requirements.
  16. I have some bit memory of servicing this one two and half years ago. Looking at the video, looks like I'll need to get under the pick-guard. Log a support ticket, they'll get on it.
  17. Right,... use the pole mounts, not the tripods. That's what the pole sensors are for.
  18. acmecontent,.... log a support ticket, that needs to be serviced. Do you physically change tunings, then Alt Tune from there? What is the string set gauge range?
  19. And there are a number of people who wouldn't record without it. Guess it depends on who they are, what they're doing and what it is they're trying to do.
  20. Let settle for an afternoon. Takes time for the neck to respond.
  21. Spec is 6.4k-Ohm bulk resistance,... good. Need to keep bulk resistance within a 6k-8k Ohm range, so as to not create problems for the processor board. Very good.
  22. Things are mounted differently between the 59 and 69, underneath on the inside. There's some stuff going on underneath the 59 that I have to deal with. It's touchy and has to be done correctly.
