  1. X3 Live is okay. I have one at my bench for checking all the guitars with when I service them.
  2. “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.â€--- Samuel Langhorne Clemens, aka Mark Twain.
  3. Via the 1/4" TRS cable. There is no VDI on the X3 Bean. DO NOT plug the guitar into the RJ45 on the Bean, it will blow both units.
  4. Being in tune helps in avoiding frequency artifacts, or keeping those artifacts from standing out like the proverbial sore thumb. Being in tune, intonated and properly set-up guitar goes a long way.
  5. That soundcloud,... You recorded thru a mic? It sounded more like what's called "dual tone effect". Hearing what's coming off the string in standard tune and hearing the alt tune, simultaneously. Can you do a direct in recording? And monitor with headphones? See if the dual tone is still there. One way around dual tone effect is to turn the amp up so the alt tune is louder than the sound of the string.
  6. Check the string nut, make certain there are no burrs in the slots. Check that the wrap is tight around the tuning posts. Press the high fret,... what is the distance between the string and the pole piece on the pick-ups?
  7. A few minor things that are circuit level, and can't into with an end user. Proprietary stuff I'm afraid. Getting functionality to work better and smoother.
  8. Acoustic 12 string model,... bar chord harmonics at frets 12, 7 and 5. If you hear a whistling howl underneath the harmonics, then the intonation needs to be dialed in better.
  9. Sounds like a pick-up height adjustment. It stands out more when you use Alt Tune. Needs to be dialed in better. If you get a whistling howling, that's a result of intonation needing to be dial in better.
  10. Yes, it's possible to convert. Need to get the correct 3rd single coil pick-up. Each one is optimized for it's position. If using a non-stock 3rd single coil, it has to have the DC/bulk resistance spec of between 6k to 8k Ohms. Outside of that range, there will be problems with impedance, current draw and the associated tone (EQ) differences that go with it. Pick-guards (scratch plates) are available. Check with the nearest Line 6 authorized service center in your area, or ring up Mark Wright Music in Northampton, in the English Midlands. Mark used to be a tech at Line 6 in Rugby when we had a location there. He has his own shop now.
  11. "On the dock it says 'Use the charger only with the AC adapter provided'."--- Which is a good idea. The voltage and current is the maximum level the adapter can handle. The need for the correct adapter is due the "current flow rate", typically in mA/hr. And with Lithium-Ion batteries, that is even more crucial. Most of the incidents in the news the last couple of years, relating to fires involving Lithium-Ion, were a result of problems with controlling current flow rate. And many of those occurred during battery charging. It's been an issue on-and-off with rechargeable batteries for computers, mobiles and portable audio gear since the 1990's. Kind of occurs in clumps. You can have periods where you won't see a single incident, then a swarm of incidents. Depends on the product, the battery, the charger and a host of other factors. So it's best to heed the warnings and leave nothing to chance.
  12. Standards have the latest firmware. The Canon to RJ45 cable that came with it is for connecting the guitar to the computer interface device, and is not meant for playing thru. Best to get a proper VDI cable for playing thru. It's official color is just "Sunburst",... but you can call it "Tobacco Sunburst" if you want. Though it can be confusing as someone might think you have a JTV-59. Enjoy. Rock on!
  13. You can get the 2011 one and we can put a current board and firmware in it. Or, get the 2017 one with with current board and firmware all in there already. Either way is fine.
  14. The build date, the firmware that comes with it. 2017 will have a more up to date circuit board. Parts are still available for the 59's.
  15. :) Oh, you're in that corner of the UK,... nice! Have a friend and colleague or two up their at University of York, audio research and such. Haven't been north of the midlands yet. Have to do that on one of my next trips.
  16. Have had JTV's and Standards come across my bench with both, and either one of them works fine. Might want to take the guitar with you to whatever shop you go to, and make certain they fit. Save you a trip back later. Tips,... read the manual, this is not the usual guitar with passive electronics. Read the warranty, some like to do modifications that can void a warranty. Changing tuning machines of these kinds won't void it. It's deeper mods that mess with the intended normal function of the guitar that voids the warranty. I won't go thru the whole list here of 20 questions of,... "will this void it or that". In a nut shell either of the two afore mentioned machines will work fine. Just make certain they fit.
  17. Log a support ticket in your Line 6 account, sounds like this one needs some of my brand of TLC.
  18. Yes, what BillBee said. Log a support ticket in your Line 6 account. Needs to be gone through by a Line 6 authorized service center.
  19. Adrian Belew seems to like the JTV-69S Shoreline Gold just fine the way it is.
  20. @ jrcfishon,... log a support ticket in your Line 6 account, it will need to be checked out by a Line 6 authorized service center who knows the inside of this.
  21. Log a ticket in you Line 6 account with Line 6 customer support.
