""Custom" is usually nothing more than a marketing ploy...and rarely does the price tag justify what you're actually getting"--- Maybe you should hang out with some of the few custom guitar people I've come to know. for them, custom is an art, and well worth it. "Anything worth doing, is worth doing right", as the saying goes.

    "... frankly "hand worked" can mean just about anything you want it to mean"--- yes. But it's my understanding that it starts out machined, then finishing work by hand (I'll have to ask him about more details on that, been a while since our last chat). I notice it more on the 59 and 89/89F than I do with the 69, mostly slight difference in contour in the heel and in the waist and bevel on the lower bout. Very subtle and nice, not too over done. Nice that you got to play one. The US build guy (one of Tyler's people) and his people do nice work. he and I trade notes from time to time, keeping up on stuff. If I made a wage as a player, I might spring for the $4K for something like that feels good and plays well, so that would be worth it to me. If I were a busker and fancy instrument wasn't an issue, I'd cheap-out for something functional only. Wouldn't be worth it to me, having a $4K guitar under those circumstances. Hmmm,... there's the crux of it, is it worth it to me, for what I'm doing with it? Something to ask ourselves.

    How many come here to talk about a guitar without playing it first? "... wondering if we might ever see the Shuriken with different woods or finishes"--- Charles Cilia's prototype (Stevic's guitar builder) Shuriken has a cocobolo neck, rosewood fret board, and I'll have to ask him again what the body was (I forgot). There a Shuriken Facebook page for those looking for one of his. A photo of me playing the prototype when it was here for some of my electronics tweaks. His and our versions,.... nice guitars. Line 6 version has a mix of Stevic model patches and the usual models.

    crusinon2,... ever play a US one? Hipshot tuners, nicely contoured hand worked body. Had a US one on the bench for a minor thing just yesterday. Don't get many on my bench, know the guy who does the US builds, good work. Good feel. Very nice guitars. The on my bench was an 89F though. Still, pretty good.

    Get it checked out by the Line6 authorized service center in your area. They will have experience with Line 6 products and guitars. There are a number of reasons for such symptoms. It will need to be gone through by a qualified technician.

    If you're planing on putting an 89F (2 pick-up) board into a 69 (3 pick-up) body, then that could be a problem,... especially with the Alt Tune. Different set of Alt Tunes. 89/89F selections won't match up with the selector labels on a 69. "I'd love a 69 with a Floyd - that's what I'm going for"--- that's not quite it. Not unless you intend to chop the 69 body to fit the 89F bridge (some have thought about that and backed-off). It will still sound and feel like a 69 Trem bridge,.... up to a point. Modeling software can only do so much, going beyond that creates problems.

    I explained this on Idea Scale earlier as well. Tone color will be different in different body types. You can't plug the processor board into any old hardware. And if you're planning to have magnetic pick-ups inserted in there, they will have to have the right bulk resistance, or you will have impedance problems that can create other problems in other parts of the circuitry. Along with any of the afore mention items in my prior posts up to this point.

    I hope you put the cover back on in the correct orientation with the tape, so that the foil under the cover doesn't short the toggle switch.

    D'Addario XL110's are the factory set,... 10-46 gauge. Always good to change strings one at a time, so as to maintain string tension.

    That leaves two possibilities,... 1) something odd with the set-up configuration, something not engaged like a device manager setting (PC), or aggregate device (Mac). 2) some failure in the audio circuitry hardware.

    Old Variax guitars didn't have mag pick-ups, so was never an issue. Those who have done transplants that I've seen, have maintained that and not used mags in conjunction with their piezos. Those that have done JTV transplants, were techs who have experience and intimate knowledge with JTV electronics. Not a whole lot of 3rd party electronics inserted in between. Too many chances for impedance mis-matches and other like problems. I've seen my share of failed attempts come across my repair bench. Blending is usually done working with Workbench HD. Also proper pick-up height adjustment helps. Seen too many guitars come back after I've serviced them because somebody altered the settings and set-up, went beyond spec and tried to hot rod it. Spec is set the way it is, because that's what works.

    As best as I can figure,... something might have occurred in transit to the retailer, then they sent it to me. And I sent it back to them. You are the original owner, so it's not a refurb,... those refurb units are sold from our website as such. Almost all of those guitars have been across my bench and gone thru my finicky fine tooth comb. Log a support ticket in your account, they can get the ball rolling and give you particulars and options.

    If they both don't work,... that's odd. Return them both. Option two, this is a device that is not serviced by our service centers, the expense of repair out weighs replacement. Contact Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music in Northampton. He used to be a tech at Line 6 Rugby, when we had a location there. If there's something quirky about your set-up configuration, he might be able to run it down and solve it. Damn good tech.

    Return it to the retailer. It's starting to look like a hardware issue. Should still be under warranty.

    It comes with its own programming and you can augment it with Workbench HD.

    Do you have Gearbox or POD Farm engaged? And the correct input on Gearbox or POD Farm enabled?

    Correct, early Variax and XT are legacy products, and so will not work with Workbench HD.

    69S doesn't use the 1st gen bridge, the 1st gen bridge was phased out before the 69S came out. It's a good idea to change strings one at a time on a dual post tremolo system. Threading on the Trem Bar is an internal, not external threading. The tail of the bridge is angled up? You change the gauge of the strings? Then the set-up needs to be checked and adjusted. When you change gauges, you change the tension, and so the set-up is also changed. The set-up needs to be adjusted for that.
