  1. What fflbrgst said,... That cabinet input in the photo is not the switchable one. Don;t do anything weird and don't do any shortcuts or work arounds. What fflbrgst said.
  2. Variax circuits will have different tone (EQ) in different bodies, as the modeling is optimized for what they were design for. There are four varieties of JTV, a Standard and Shuriken. Each board is optimized for each of the six types of guitars they go in. They will sound different and sometimes function different, depending on what board it is and what other guitar you put it into. Line 6 does not support modifications to it's products. It's at your own risk, so proceed with caution.
  3. "... should a JTV-89 neck with the reversed head-stock fit on the JTV-89F with no modifications?"--- May need to do a little sanding on the neck to get it to fit in the pocket, but it should be okay. The locking nut and string tree are there to help stabilize tuning when using tremolo on an 89F. You won't have that on an 89 neck.
  4. "Do you know if there is a fixed price for out-of-warranty repairs or a fixed price to diagnose the problem"--- No, we don't track that. It's up to the individual shop. E&M is good, Mark Wright knows these guitars as well as I do, so either of them would be good.
  5. Loose connect, using a regular CAT5 cable instead of one with the VDI housing (on both ends of the cable), faulty cable, intermittent solder point and a few other things. Parts available,... yes. Check with E&M Electronics in Milton Keyes or my mate Mark Wright Music in Northampton. Mark used to be my opposite number in Rugby, when we had a location there.
  6. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/general-faq/cleaning-pots-and-faders-r816 @ tomt6257,... You could have a tech do it. However, I'm the guy at Line 6 who services the guitars, and already have a good idea what it could be. Pulling the pick-guard up yourself, if you don't have experience at his, is not a good idea. It can get very involved under there. And I've already done a lot of these guitars.
  7. Just leave the piezos alone, wouldn't want to affect string to piezo contact. Chartreuse,... hmmm, stylish. You always did have a sense of flair and style. :)
  8. It needs to go to an authorized service center for a good going over and servicing. It's gotten to the point beyond self repair. An authorized service center will have access to information and me, if needed. https://line6.com/find/service_center/ for authorized service and repair near you.
  9. Don't do number five. In general, any mod that alters the functionality of the guitar, voids any warranty. Messing with the bridge can alter functionality, 1 thru 4 doesn't. Don't mess with the bridge. Be very careful messing around under the pick-guard, this is not some guitar with passive electronics like the usual guitars out there.
  10. Well,... don't know how major it is, but v2.21 was up'd to v2.22 to flesh out a few things and accommodate the Shuriken. Standard first came with v2.21 firmware. Don't mean to be a contrarian, you're essentially right. Just filling in a few holes like I do.
  11. Does it sound like you made a phone call and got a fax machine instead? Are you using the VDI modular jack or the 1/4" jack with the battery? If you are using the 1/4" jack with the battery, is the cable a regular guitar cable or TRS (tip/ring/sleeve) type cable?
  12. US version:: The rolled edge and scalloping are not factory, that would be a 3rd party custom job and not Line 6. And the US serial numbers for the Line 6, US JTV's have no letter designation in front of it. Those would be custom or a non Line 6 from Tyler himself.
  13. Battery drain, not good. Since you returned it, it will be coming to me soon enough. Thanks. Low string piezo, could be the piezo, could be the string action in the set-up. I would have to have it on my bench to be certain. There are a number of ways that can occur.
  14. They get tested at the distribution hub. The set-up (action, neck relief, etc) can change with the climate (temp and especially humidity) of the end destination. Since the distribution hub doesn't know the end destination of the retailer or customer location at the end, they set-up at their location to specifications. Dialing in the set-up can be done at the end location. Some retailers do added checks, check and adjust set-ups just prior to retail sale. Check with your local retailer regarding that.
  15. "Can't see how changing the tubes would fix it."---- If the power tubes are getting worn, there could be internal elements of the tube leaking current between them. And that could pull on the system voltages.
  16. Make certain your product is registered in your account, and then log a support ticket with Line 6. They will let you know what your options are. Good things come to those who wait. Battery charge times should be observed. Impatience is understandable, I have five Variax guitars myself.
  17. Support will go over the options with you. Not a user solvable issue at this point.
  18. Correct, the pick-ups are the same in both. They are done to Tyler's specifications, modeled after some Seymour Duncans that he likes.
