  1. The bulk resistances of the pick-ups should be between 6k-8k Ohms. Outside of that and there may be problems.
  2. Good,... I asked because, electric guitars or tube amps are like noise antennae when it comes to florescent lights. Check that off the list then. Have to remember that with valve (tubes) amps, there's always going to be a little noise. It's just the nature of vacuum tubes.
  3. Get away from any florescent lights that may be close by.
  4. No problem. Wait until you hear how bad it is with Alt Tune on a JTV that needs its intonation dialed-in tighter. Warbles and it howls,... Cringe!
  5. Check with Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music in Northampton. He used to work at Line 6, UK in Rugby, back when we had a location there. He still works on Line 6 gear. He may be more tuned-in to what's out there.
  6. "BTW: Line 6 Staff....thanks for your bread and butter answer. That's the kind of stuff that makes me mad over corporations"--- The link was just a starting point. A number of people out there are still unaware of that. Have to start somewhere, then work our way from there. It is a High Res DAC. Some else is at play in the signal chain. Being that the tone is at 15kHz, it is a multiple of the sampling frequency, so my first suspicion is that there is a loose ground point in the analog signal chain. That would allow the sample clock to fold back into the audio band. This sort of thing can occur with "mixed signal devices".
  7. Oxidizing solder? Loose plug-in connection? Component failure in a circuit? It's more than ten years old. Maybe time for it to be serviced. Use a Line 6 authorized service center, as they will have access to service information and tools. Not something for just any guitar tech to work on.
  8. You need the battery if you are using the 1/4" TRS connection to plug into the Helix. You don't need the battery if you use the VDI connection with the VDI cable. The Model encoder has an internal switch, you push down on to engage the Models. Some people forget that, and they think that it simply plug in and turns on, on its own. Also, check to be certain that the Helix is not controlling the JTV-69. Check the Edit Page Variax settings for that.

  10. Older product like that, solder point will be oxidizing by now. Line 6 authorized service center that works on our guitars, with all the right tools, access to service info, and me (or my lab mate). Don't try this at home.
  11. Check pages 21-22 regarding Variax settings and edits in the Owner's Manual Rev-D, see if that helps. http://line6.com/support/manuals/helix Sounds like something similar to the Variax Model "Force/Don't Force" edit features of our other floor effects products. Helix would have something similar.
  12. Excellent. :) Remember the old Murphy-ism, "The shortcut is the longest distance between two points". It's like trying to drink coffee from a sieve. Mis-matched impedances are like that.
  13. "The speaker would get Power from my TT i reckon?"--- Not through the RCA jacks. If you are going to use RCA out's for speakers, they will have to be those powered desktop types, like are used for desktop computer speakers. RCA output circuits won't drive a passive low impedance speaker, RCA in's and out's are high impedance circuits. Powered desktop speakers for computers and with RCA jacks, if you are going to do something like that.
  14. Re-Flash the program. If that doesn't work, return it for an exchange or log a support ticket. At that point, if a re-Flash won't fix it, then it won't be something you can fix yourself.
  15. Don't do that! That circuit is not design for that. Use the proper outputs for what they are meant for. Headphone Output is meant for headphones.
  16. It's a guitar with spy satellite grade electronics in it,... but the electronics are not MIL-Spec. :D Fortunately, these electronics don't talk to the Central Intel, DHS or the NSA. We get enough of that from the phone company (AT&T, San Francisco, 7th floor tap onto the incoming international call's cable line trunking).
  17. Magnets pull on the strings. So instead of a purely transverse string vibration, there is a pull down component on the strings from the pick-up pole pieces. This creates a circle motion vibration, and so the strings no longer cut the magnetic field perpendicularly, it is also parallel to the field (creating null points in the field). Rather complex frequency and field physics. Going in and out of these nulls injects a beat frequency (modulating freq) within the string vibrating frequency (fundamental freq). This becomes the artifact known as "warbling". It occurs when the pick-ups are too close to the strings, and is especially noticeable when the piezos are engaged when Modeling is on, since the piezos are sensitive and amplify the warbling. Not something you hear that easily with a guitar with passive electronics, but can be audible with those too,... if you know what to listen for. Having light gauge string that can be pulled by the pick-up magnets are susceptible as well. The set-up (neck relief, action, intonation, tremolo tension and pick-up height) should be checked and spec'd out by a Line 6 authorized tech who knows the product, and access to the correct service info,... while still under warranty.
  18. Pick-up is too close to the string, so there's a slight warbling through the piezos. It's a set-up thing. Have it checked by a Line 6 authorized service, they will have access to service info to deal with that.
  19. 1- Good. Never run a valve amp without a matched load on the speaker output. Matched load being, that if you plug into the 8-Ohm output, that there is an 8-Ohm speaker load on it. 2- When was the last time the valves were changed? Once every 12-18 months for a working musician, 20-24 months for weekend warriors and bedroom rock stars,... unless something happens sooner than that. 3- Are they the specified 5881WXT (matched set) power tubes, and properly biased? These amps are not forgiving of mods, even valve mods. It's already a hot rod. 4- Is the person working the mixer console/board making use of input trim and filters? Resonance that turns into feedback can occur for a number of reasons.
