This is the perfect solution in the event that L6 doesn't listen to those that are asking for a change. I have been holding out, waiting to see if they would add a way to choose the function of this button through programming but now that they have moved on to something new, I expect that our 500X will be an afterthought.

I would like to see an additional fx slot added to the 500X. I have never run out of DSP yet but have been experimenting with dual amp scenarios. Now that I am running an external reverb unit in the loop, I doubt I will ever run out of DSP but I do have a few patches that would benefit from just 1 additional slot.

It can't be BETA,,,, They have already tooled up for the housing and the displays have been manufactured. This unit has been in the queue, dare I suggest, for well over a year. You don't just tool up and design circuit boards to support this kind of device for a beta test. The software might still be in BETA mode but the hardware is a done deal.

They must have something ready to go or SweetWater wouldn't have their hands on one as a demo.

I'm on a MAC so ini files are of no help to me. I have my USB interface for the original Workbench and that works just fine, It is just a pain that I can't edit guitars and the HD at the same time without having to switch back and forth between interfaces to be able to preview the sound. This is only an issue when I'm in the studio, tweaking for the next show so it is something I have learned to live with. It is good news that the next version of the edit software will support IOS via "camera kit". I can only hope that HD EDIT will be upgraded so that the 500X can be modified via iPad. I don't own a laptop but I do cary 2 iPads with me at all times. Not getting my hopes up too high though. I doubt they will care about this. I understand what you are saying about Java, however, Java is not forced by the Variax hardware. Simply have your software guru write some code that will access the existing circuitry. The only Java being spoken is between Old Workbench or L6 Monkey, and it's interface (the USB dongle, or your POD). BTW, I never used the word "conspiracy". This is a typical marketing "strategy" used my many companies these days. L6 has a hungry customer base, chomping at the bit for the next big gizmo.

If Line6 can't accept the fact that some people just can't afford to drop several thousand dollars every time they decide to change things up, then it is revenue they will loose. In my personal opinion, the Variax 500 is a much better playing guitar than any of the JTV models and I have tried them all. I will be sticking with my 500s (I own three now). It would have been an added incentive (carrot) if they fixed their blunder and made new hardware going forward acceptable for ALL their guitars. I've worked in the electronics industry for over 20 years and I know that if they really wanted to, they could. This is just a marketing strategy to get people to spend more money on their products. The HD500X is a very nice piece of gear. With the functions built in, Line6 had a lot of room left in this product to expand. It's obvious that the L6 mentality will be that this product will fall buy the wayside and eventually drop off their radar. In the mean time, everyone who is addicted to L6 products (myself included) will scurry about and try to figure out how to come up with the money to buy the next big gizmo. By the time you have that gizmo in your hands and you have gone through the learning curve to be able to make it perform as an instrument, they are already going to be announcing the next "big" gizmo. Extra buttons on Helix make it look like they are slightly closer together. The 500X buttons are already too close for my "clown shoes".

It better be, it's 2.3x the price.

Does it support a Variax 500 for Workbench purposes?
-
Too bad they can't improve what we already have before moving on to something new.

I am using a VP-JR 25K and it works perfectly.

Should be a "recall".

I upgraded from an iPad and ran into the same flashing light problem. I downgraded to the previous firmware and have not tried to re-install the latest.

Yes, EXP2 is working properly and controlling the wet/dry mix on my delay. Tested again last night. I have a single button set up to toggle between chorus and flanger. when MIX is at 0% and I am using a Soldano Crunch tone, I can still detect a bit of modulation. If I change the button assignment to toggle a single effect, chorus or flanger, and shut it off, I do not hear it. With chorus on a single button by itself and EXP1 assigned to control the wet/dry mix, I can still detect modulation at 0% wether I control that from EXP1 or use my mouse to adjust the knob in HD Edit.

HA, sorry about the title of the thread. I am thinking about too many things this morning. Yes, I have calibrated the pedal. In HD Edit, I can see the MIX knob moving to 0%

I thought I might be able to maximize the use of some buttons by creating a few patches that have fx assignments doubled up on a single button. For example, Chorus and Flanger assigned to FS1 so that you can toggle between the two. Then I assigned the expression pedal to control the mix from 0 to around 75%. The problem I am seeing here is that, with the expression pedal all the way back at 0%, I can still hear a slight chorus effect (or flanger) when, technically, it should be bypassed at 0%. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Sorry if this has been previously covered.

You could also talk to someone in the parts department at FullCompass.com

When I have two stomp boxes toggling back and forth on the same switch, how do I force which one is on when the light is illuminated?

Just for reference. Full Compass can get any parts you might need. If you don't see it on their site, they can still get it. -
variax usb connection to workbench
leesteel replied to daveeff's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
I found an extra Workbench USB interface in my box of goodies that I was saving as a spare. I can save you some $25 and sell it for $75 including shipping. -
http://www.fullcompass.com/product/429493.html This is the part you will need if you test and it is not working. It says "for Variax JTV-69" but I have already purchased this part and used it to repair my own guitar and can confirm that it will work. VDI cables can be expensive. You can purchase CAT5E cables in many lengths and colors at most Staples, BestBuy, etc… and put the Ethercon ends on yourself. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Neutrik-NE8MC-1-Ethercon-Cable-Connector-Nickel-Housing-Qty-1-/171754855743?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27fd631d3f For anyone else reading this, I have good success using home made VDI cables with my 500s however I could not get a home made cable to work on a Variax 300. Could not figure out the difference. My L6 VDI cable was working but none of the home made ones did.

a small amount of Gorilla glue that could easily be removed.
