I really wish this wasn't the case... I could seriously cut down on the number of delay blocks I need if I could just bounce between "note value" and "ms value" in snapshots. But - it is what it is, there must be a reason they can't implement it... I can work around it easy enough thanks to the number of blocks I have in the LT.
-
I am assuming then that you have the wah or whammy to "auto engage" when the pedal reaches a certain threshold. Simply using the on/off status of the effect will not work between snapshots while that is engaged, as you are likely finding out. I don't have a unit beside me to test at this time, but have you checked to see if you can adjust the "auto engage threshold" per snapshot? If it is set to 5% on the snapshot you use it on... maybe try setting it to 100% on the snapshots you don't want it to engage on. If that's possible, then the pedal would have to be fully engaged (rather than bumped) before it would engage at all. I don't know if that setting is adjustable "per snapshot"... but if it is, that may be the trick.
-
You can't morph between snapshots with an expression pedal, but there is nothing stopping you from assigning multiple parameters to the expression rather than snapshots on this particular preset. If you assign the drive parameters (and a few others as well if you want) to the expression pedal with min/max values it will morph between the two sounds - sort of like having two snapshots to work with - with gradual "in between" stages.

no ir’s showing in hx edit but unit has ir’s loaded
codamedia replied to shanecgriffo's topic in Helix
Just to add... in order to see which HX Edit version you are actually using, you can open it and choose "Help > About HX Edit"... the version is listed there. -
The above post is 100% if you truly have a MONO signal. Send one side to FOH, send the other side to your cabinet. The other option is how I used to do it with my HD500.... a direct box. Left out to the DI, continue that signal 1/4" to your FRFR cabinet, and send the XLR from the DI to the FOH. I actually prefer this method over the first as the left will collapse to mono in the event you actually do have something stereo in your path. It's more of a guarantee the FOH is getting the exact same signal.

hx effects HX Effects<>Helix FL patch conversion utility
codamedia replied to ivanmongiardo's topic in Helix
It's too bad HX Edit doesn't work in OFFLINE MODE like HD Edit could. If that were possible, then conceivably you could load a Helix block, strip it down to a chain that works with an HX Effects or HX Stomp and save it as such. It might not have been an "automatic" solution, but IMO it would give you full control over what to keep and what to discard within the parameters of your device. -
Just to be clear... this solution does require two blocks. I'm pretty sure given the subject of this thread the desire was to make the amp change within one block via snapshot.
-
Those are presets.... I know that may sound like a condescending answer... but I don't mean it to. The problem is - it's the unloading and loading of amp/fx models that causes the audio gap during a preset change... snapshots get around the audio gap by only allowing on/off status and parameter changes - the models don't need to reload.
-
May I play devils advocate :) With the hundreds of options already available with snapshots, coupled with "discard/recall" in the global settings... it is already capable of confusing people, and does confuse people! A user can choose any parameter they want and assign it to be controlled by a snapshot.... except the on/off state. You get no choice with that one. I find that in itself to be confusing. IMO, the Helix already has a learning curve and I can't see this adding much to it. L6 can always choose to make it another option in the Global menu just like "recall/discard". Have the feature turned off by default so snapshots works exactly as they already do... but allow users that know what they are getting into the opportunity to turn it on.
-
Snapshots are a great feature... and very well done. I am 99% satisfied with it's implementation. Give me the option to choose which on/off states I want controlled by snapshots (as I can with any parameters) and I would be at 100% satisfaction! I think I've already been counted :)

Your Kemper SEND is in Mono.... there is no reason to setup a stereo return on the HX Effects. Just insert a MONO LOOP on the HX Effects and leave the other loop open for something else. The benefit of setting up a LOOP is that is does a send/return using one block rather than a separate SEND/RETURN that requires two blocks. After setting up your stereo time based effects in the HX Effects run your LEFT/RIGHT output to your "RETURN and ALTERNATE IN" on the Kemper. In the KEMPER... in the FX Section... hold the X button then choose "Loop Stereo Default". The X button will then toggle the stereo loop on/off. Any stereo effect placed before the Kemper loop will be summed to MONO because the Kemper FX Send is only MONO. Make sure your KEMPER stereo effects are placed AFTER the KEMPER Stereo Loop.
-
Yes you can place pedals between your guitar and the Kemper input... don't waste the Kemper loop before the profiler section. If you place the Kemper loop after the preamp it will work just like any other loop on an amp and you can wire it with the 4 cable method (or 7 cable for stereo)... Use the instructions from @tommasoferrarese above... they are correct. As I read this thread, it makes me wonder if you are remembering to insert the HX Effects LOOP block? You have been asked, but you have not confirmed. Connecting the cables is not enough.

This is a feature I would like to see... basically the ability to isolate 1 or more blocks and not have them effected by the on/off state in snapshots. I can think of several reasons this would be very useful. As a simple example: My snapshots contain several core tones... but maybe I don't want my clean boost (on/off status) programmed into a snapshot. I'd prefer that to be a "stomp only" effect that is either on or off on my terms regardless of snapshot choice. Right now I either do tap dances to make sure my boost stays on, or duplicate each snapshot of my core tones with "boost on" so I can access it quickly. This is already the way it works for parameters.... but the on/off status of the effect cannot be "left alone". The snapshot ALWAYS dictates the on/off status. Just like all the parameters, it would be nice to have control over that so it can be "left alone".

Where to start :) Did your "cheap Chinese midi interface" come with drivers? If not, why? If they did, did you install them? Before diving into CC controls... have you tried the basic (and often automatic) program changes to see if they work? Helix Native requires a DAW.... is that set up appropriately to re-direct the midi messages? IE: Did you setup the HD as a controller in the DAW, and did you redirect that to communicate with Native?

Well - the headphones should put left to left and right to right. Are you saying the Left side is getting the RIGHT signal as well? Shouldn't be... I'd check my headphones and/or headphone amp if I were using one... and don't forget to double check the orientation of your headphones :) That's not documentation.... that's a label. It is quickly overlooked by way of "assumption" by most. You are right, I'm not arguing that.... just pointing out that this is a subject the deserves it's own "special note" within the manual. If you need a distinct L or R output from the 1/4" jacks, you MUST use a dummy jack in the other output.
-
This is a problem with the Helix line in general... not the fault of others products. The HELIX (unlike all former Line 6 products I know of) does not work with phantom power... well - sure, it works, but the sound goes for a crap as you have learned! I'll leave it at that :) OK - I guess I won't leave it at that :) That's how it was on all former devices.... IMO, L6 dropped the ball on development and testing with the Helix in this regard! I have yet to see them publish a plausible explanation for this design flaw.
-
It's not well documented, if it's documented at all but you have missed a step :) The XLR outputs obey the L/R panning at all times... The 1/4" outs obey the panning ONLY if both plugs are used. If you only use one 1/4" output, the L/R gets summed to mono on that output. It's a simple solution... put a dummy plug into the R/Mono 1/4" output.

There is no amp modeling in the HX Effects so I'm not sure how you will get a good George Lynch sound via effect and IR alone. It might be possible to get close with creative use of overdrives and EQ... but only close.

codamedia replied to shanecgriffo's topic in Helix
Make sure your HELIX and HX EDIT are running the same versions to avoid any incompatibilities. -
Nice job of troubleshooting the problem... glad to see you narrowed it down. Have you ruled out the TRS to XLR cable? Are you positive it's wired to spec? I've seen some TRS to XLR cables that are specific for certain devices/connections and it can cause trouble when they mingle in the same cable box. Also... I see above that phil_m said phantom power does not effect the Stomp... but this thin sound seems similar to the phantom power issue with the Helix units. Has that been 100% ruled out... just curious.

pod hd 500 POD HD 500 - Suddenly sounding weird
codamedia replied to diegoprogmetal's topic in POD HD
Did you accidentally engage the guitar pad... or the global EQ? I would recommend that you backup your HD500 presets, then do a factory reset. If the problem continues it's hardware related... if it goes away, then you likely inadvertently altered a global setting. I'm pretty sure the only way to do a factory reset on the HD500 is to re-install the latest FLASH through Monkey.... this thread seems to cover it. https://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/46908/ -
That is truly what it comes down to... do what works best for you. IME: For the most part, players are accustomed to having more effects before an amp. Just look at the size of some of the pedal boards some people have... and to be honest, I don't know very many people with a traditional pedal board that use the effects loop in their amp to setup a 4 cable method with their board. For the most part, everything just goes straight into the front of the amp. That changes with modeling, as it is very convenient to place things before or after. But the general concept still applies... In front of my amp I will always run wah, octave/whammy, 2 - 3 overdrives, stomp compression, slap back delay, phase, drive boost. After my amp is where I would run reverb, longer delay, studio style compression There are some effects I prefer after the amp, but have no problem putting them in front of the amp if the setup dictates I have to.... these include modulation (tremolo, chorus, flange, etc...) a volume pedal block and a clean boost With the HX Effects and the Stomp (very powerful combo IMO) the HX Effects has more footswitches.... therefore I would load those up like a pedal board so I could stomp on it all night without effecting the amp modeling. Through MIDI I would have the stomp follow any preset/snapshot changes, sync the tap delay and even assign a switch or two if required. Please keep in mind... I don't run stereo in a live rig - and in a studio I would apply stereo effects in a mix, not track them. In other words, I simply don't do stereo :) Users that like to use a stereo setup would likely prefer more "after amp" effects.
-
If heading into an FRFR setup.... I'd run HX Effects > HX Stomp > FRFR. No need to use any blocks for sends/returns/loops. I'd setup the HX Effects like a pedal board... and put all the effects I would normally run on a board there. The Stomp would start with the AMP modeler, followed by any post effects ... To make it much more interesting... I'd midi the two together using the HX effects as the master since it has more footswitches to work with. To be fair, there is no right or wrong answer here... you can reverse the order I describe, or use loops back and forth. Do whatever you need to get the results you need.

Helix LT 2.70 tuner reading note that isn't there
codamedia replied to vstrattomusic's topic in Helix
Any line noise is a note... whether it's a musical note or just noise is irrelevant, it's still registers as a note. I just plugged an open ended cable into my LT and turned it on... it shows a flattened B. When I plug the cable into my guitar it shows a flattened D. That just tells me that the buzz I'm hearing at those times (no matter how faint) relates to those notes. The tuner has never been better than it is in 2.7... it certainly does a great job of tuning my instruments. Honestly... this is nothing I would worry about in the least. All it means to me is that the tuner it extremely sensitive... that's a good thing - IMO! -
LEFTY GUITAR PLAYER FEELING HELPLESS
codamedia replied to Josue1979's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
When I got a Helix I decided to keep my HD500 as a backup... not only as a backup to the Helix, but also an option for me to connect my old Variax to the computer when needed. Don't sell the Helix and take a step backward. I'd recommend that you find a used XT/X3 Live... it will come in handy for more than a workbench interface. I can see you are in Spain so this might not be as easy as it is here in North America...
