  1. Try a new USB cable? If it's not working in Ableton Live either... then it's not Studio One - and probably not Ableton either. Your settings look OK... so that shouldn't be a problem. I just started a new S1 song then followed the steps I provided above (one of my first posts).... it worked 100% for me.
  2. Exactly... although it's all on one instrument (ie: midi) track, it's broken into lanes. It can be seen separately as tabs in the Piano Roll view so they can be edited separately. Program changes are fine, and snapshots are a little wonky. The values sent to S1 are 0,1,2,3,4 etc.... but the values in S1 are being "snapped" to the odd fractions we talked about earlier. This is offsetting snapshot 3 and higher. (ie: the wrong snapshots are loading on playback... one higher than they should be) I think the trick will be to find out why Studio 1 is reserving CC69 like it is.... and whether or not that can be released for normal usage. I'll dig around al little and see if I can find a solution for this.
  3. I'm not talking about midi monitor.... When you add a "keyboard device" there are filter boxes... do not check those or it will filter those items, not pass them. If you are looking at if from a different angle... it may be reversed - I don't know. Today when I added the Helix... I needed to add it as an "instrument" (not a keyboard) so those filters did not apply. (I've never added the Helix before... I've never had a need to) That weird anomaly is because Studio One reserves CC69 for ""hold 2 on/off".... while the Helix uses it for Snapshots. How S1 deals with that parameter is by snapping to odd fractional numbers.... so yeah - it does create a weird interaction with the Helix. Normally you would simply enter 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 as values... but S1 is moving those to "it's closest fraction" that it has reserved. I've posted much easier numbers to remember above than the odd fractions that guy gave in the video. S1 will load those "fractions" on it's own as long as you are in the ballpark :) CC and PC messages are managed through automation channels.... not an everyday midi track. When you record into S1 it will track ALL on one track... it will just create the Automation lanes for each and every CC, PC, Mod Wheel, etc... etc.... for that track. When you just need to SEND to a device... it's much easier to just create the automation track on it's own. That all sounds way harder than it actually is :) I'm the opposite. I found S1 to be so intuitive I rarely need to look anything up. I came from Cakewalk/Sonar prior and yes it was different... but I though it made way more sense. Obviously... what makes sense is not the same for everyone :)
  4. What you are doing here happens automatically between the Helix and S1...... when the Helix has the S1 template loaded, and when you use the default S1 key commands. (I use custom commands so the stock template doesn't work well for me) However, in order to send CC messages to the Helix you need to add it as an external device in Studio One. External Device > Add new Instrument > set the parameters as required (EG: Midi channel 2 since you use that for the Helix, and set the output to the Helix) Add an automation track Drop the box that says NONE and choose "Add / Remove" From the right side, expand external devices for the midi channel you want. If there is is no midi channel separation, then there is only the one channel connected. Choose and add CC69 to the automation track (this might show as "hold 2 onoff") Add nodes where you want the snapshots to change.... don't forget to add a node at the start as well. Right click on each node... and enter the proper value for the snapshot you wish to call. (don't try entering value with the mouse... just right click and enter) NOTE: Enter these values and S1 will actually adjust it automatically to the value that works. (the actual values are hard to remember, these are much easier) Snapshot 1 = 0.00 Snapshot 2 = 1.00 Snapshot 3 = 1.75 Snapshot 4 = 2.00 Snapshot 5 = 3.00 Snapshot 6 = 4.00 Snapshot 7 = 5.00 Snapshot 8 = 6.00 This just worked perfectly when I tried it... snapshots change as planned on playback. (As complicated as that may look at a glance... once you know the procedure it takes seconds to program)
  5. @rd2rk .... IME, Studio One is very easy to setup devices, record midi and send midi. No hacks, no routing issues, no problem at all. It might have different ways of approaching things... but once you learn that it's a snap. EG: for something like this you program an automation lane, not a midi track.
  6. I can certainly understand a drop in faith when gear lets you down... I have been there many times over my 40+ year career. That said, I have never ditched an amp just because a tube failed... I have never ditched a pedal because a jack or switch failed, I have never ditched a guitar because a pickup failed and I will never ditch my Helix if a preset became corrupt. Those are the reasons I carry backups to my gigs and have always carried backups to my gigs. The concern is when "tubes continue to fail", or "presets continue to become corrupt". IE: Don't let the "one-offs" scare you away! Just my 2 cents.
  7. I'm not sure it directly related to monitor size... as much as the difference in the monitors themselves. IMO - different monitors will produce different results, it's important to listen to more than one set of "quality" speakers. Most often fixing a "problem" on one, helps the tone in the other and vice versa. You will never make the two sound the same, but you can make both sound great - and that's the secret!
  8. Maybe you misunderstood my suggestion above.... it gives the exact same results you are getting now from the internal pedal, but it will free up EXP 2 for independent external use. Maybe you want to do more complex things... in which case it may or may not work. But for controlling Volume/Wah... it works perfectly.
  9. Yeah... absolutely. For me that kind of defeats the purpose of a toe switch.... but whatever works for someone is never a wrong option.
  10. When you only use the built in expression on the Helix... that is still exactly how it works even though the toe is changing between EXP1 and EXP2. The volume has to go up to engage the wah, and the wah has to go up to go back to volume. (The OP has stated that THIS is how he is currently using the built in expression) The only difference is that when you do them both from EXP1... the toe is toggling the on/off states rather than switching EXP modes - but it's the same results! You cannot engage the TOE Switch without pushing the pedal "toe down". NOTE: I guess if you have the volume set to never go past 80% that would be an issue (it would jump to 100 when disengaged to go to wah)... but IMO that's not how I would ever use a volume pedal so it wouldn't concern me.
  11. This can still work.... even when you use an external expression for EXP2 and EXP3 to control other things. Assign both the VOLUME and WAH to EXP1 Have the TOE switch toggle the on/off states of the volume and wah block. I own an LT which only has 1 external EXP.... and that is exactly how I do it to free up EXP2 for many other uses. It works 100%
  12. I used to run a full range (coax) eminence in a Peavey Bandit.... and just plugged my Helix into the effects return of the amp. No tone controls, but the master volume, reverb and presence worked. It worked really well and would still be using it today if it hadn't been stolen.
  13. My hearing survived... :) Those were great times, mostly because there was no shortage of live shows and a living to be made. Even back then I owned a modeler for recording... it was called a Rockman.
  14. Yes... I love that about them :) After watching several videos of Michael Britt explaining his "live" needs I realized he approaches things the same way I do... but he has a much better "project studio" to experiment and create with. His IR's are more like an "amp in the room" sound on stage (through monitors, FRFR or IEM's)... but still translate really well to the FOH. I've always found that the studio guitar sounds that work great in recordings often sound/feel too thin on a stage. His IR's bridge that gap really nicely "for me"! They may not do the same for anyone else :)
  15. I doubt this has anything to do with the complexity of the presets... my live presets have a lot going on and I that doesn't change anything on the display side. (note: I'm on an LT with performance view, not scribble strips) Can you explain what exactly isn't working in the display? Is it not updating the signal flow view? Are the snapshot "scribbles" and "footswitches" not following the actual change? Is it just not returning to the view you are expecting? Have you restarted the Helix? Being a computer this can often solve silly hiccups. Short of that, a full "BACKUP", "RESET", "RESTORE" procedure is sometimes required. I've never encountered the need for that in my three years as an owner, but I've seen it successfully mentioned several times on these forums.
  16. I like some of the Celestion IR's (celestionplus.com)... not only for sound, but also their simplicity. A handful of options instead of hundreds. My recent favorites are the Michael Britt IR's. https://mbritt.com/product-category/ir/ He created IR's specifically for live use from his personal stock of cabinets. Although his is mostly a Kemper user, he does have a general set of IR's that work with the Helix (the blended IR pack).
  17. Did the Global EQ accidentally (or purposely) get engaged? IIRC the global EQ will not apply to USB (which you say sounds good), but it will apply to the outputs it is assigned to. FWIW... because of the phantom power issues I feed a direct box with my 1/4" to the FOH and run the XLR to my FRFR.
  18. People have been saying this for years..... in the meantime, they could have been enjoying a Helix! There are 6 variations of the Helix right now (not counting PODGO)... the flagships being the original FLOOR & RACK/Controller. The hardware for each is just an interface for the same software.... they don't sound any different other than the fact you can run MORE on the larger versions. Hardware will eventually come that overtakes the "flagship" position (likely more DSP, maybe a touchscreen, maybe this.... maybe that.... maybe... maybe... maybe....) but under the hood, it will still sound the same. Software updates will apply to all models... with very few limitations. If something fits your wants/needs now, IMO there is no reason not to dive in.
  19. I have a solution that works for me, but it only works for me because I keep a "simple" live set up, and don't require "auto impedance" in any way. For the most part.... I use one preset live, but I have one iteration of that preset for each guitar I own. I create the preset on my Tele (my primary guitar) and the first block is a simple GAIN block. When I copy the preset for the Strat... that gain is turned up a little to compensate the gain difference. For my Les Paul I need to reduce the gain, repeat for each guitar I gig with... The simple act of leveling the input takes care of everything I need. Yes the presets sound different with different guitars... but for me that's the point! I would have no argument against a global solution. I use to use a BOSS LS-2 at the front of my pedal boards for this very purpose... providing 3 instantly accessible levels at my feet when I changed guitars. My Helix solution works fine for me, but something global would work much better for those that work with a lot of presets. If it was an option, I'd likely find a way to use it.
  20. Not the best time to try and figure out a Helix :) What exactly is your expectation of "Snapshot Bypass"? Snapshot bypass only sets whether a blocks ON/OFF state is controlled by snapshots or not. It does not automatically assign all "controls" to snapshots. Controls can only become available to snapshots when they are assigned to do so. As for the global snapshot setting of "Recall/Discard".... do you know the difference or are you just pressing buttons and hoping for a certain result? "Recall" will only re-load your snapshot to original state when you change presets. If you change settings in that snapshot those settings will be retained while you scroll through other snapshots. "Discard" will re-load your snapshot to original state every time you call up that snapshot within a preset. (FWIW, this is my preferred choice because there are no surprises)
  21. Nice demo. Of course each amp can do much more but this is great for a general comparison. I like the Ampegs.. and confirmed once again by this demo, I do not like what the GK does.
  22. This will depend on the amp choices, as well as the type of delay and reverb. What exactly are you using in your current preset? Based on your photo, I quickly tested Helix Native in "Stomp" compatibility mode. Since one of your amps was the "L6 Badonk" I used that for both amps. IR's needed to be 1024.... 2048 was not an option in this configuration (greyed out) Then I added a simple delay and a Hall reverb.... both MONO With all that added there isn't much "greyed out" for options... which means you should be able to swap out reverbs and delays (even stereo ones) relatively freely but the 2nd amp might be limited to very few. At least half of the options are greyed out.
  23. This is exactly the reason I pushed myself toward getting an FRFR. I am usually quite content with stage monitors or IEM's, but there are times when you need to take care of yourself on stage. I'm a multi-instrumentalist with a combination of acoustic and electrics so staying full range was important to me. Like you, I didn't want to make a huge investment since I don't need it for very many gigs. My local store had plenty to choose from and I decided to go with a Cerwin Vega CVE-10 (there is also a CVE-12 & CVE-15) which was just a little more than an Alto or Headrush. They aren't very common, but if you find one they sound great and are very versatile.
  24. @zappazapper .... I didn't mean to come across as pretentious with my statement, but it sure looked that way didn't it :) I've edited my statement. "dvok64" was concerned about flimsy and said he had to gig with it.... I was just pointing out that I gig with mine often and have had no issues.
  25. I'm a "gigging" guitar player and I don't find the LT to be "flimsy". Not built like a tank, but hardly what I would call flimsy. My LT is mounted on a board along with an external expression pedal, a DI and a Wireless.... it is properly cared for and maintained, but not babied. The case has a hard cover for moving around. As for the expression, mine has never given me any trouble. I don't seem to suffer from the problems "theElevators" mentions above. It reaches 0 and 100 respectively, and no sqeaks/squaks from mine. His concerns are something I am mindful of though, because many people have brought that up. One problem I do have with the expression pedal occurs on sunny outdoor gigs. When the sun hits it at the right angle it wreaks havoc on the sensor and the pedal behaves erratically. I'm not sure of the Helix floor or controller suffers from this, but it is a problem on my LT under the "perfect" conditions. (ie: it's not all outdoor gigs, just certain ones).
