From what I can tell the acoustic amp doesn't change the signal much other than to give you access to tone controls.
-
Yes, sort of. 1) I didn't find a hum DEP parameter for the Xt/X3 models. 2) Some of the older models had no hum at all. ALL models with lots of gain had more noise than the rest, regardless if they were old or new.
-
As a followup to my threads on THD, DEP parameters, and frequency responses for HD500x amps, microphones, & cabs, i finally completed the THD & frequency response measurements of the model paks. You will find them here, since the 340k file is too big to upload to this forum (?). What I found most interesting was the presence (or absence) of 60/120 cycle hum. It seems in these older models you get the 60 cycle hum whether you want it or not. I indicated which ones were clean and which ones had hum. It would have thought it would have been such an easy thing to add a DEP parameter to adjust these.

If your "click of a button" is going from one patch to another then yes, there is a light delay. This has caused me to switch to FS1-8 mode. With that, the switches only turn on/off FX which, to my ears, cause no delays. This is much more usable to me.

Global input settings: Set input 2 to microphone
pfsmith0 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Note that setting Input2 to MIC will add mic preamp noise to the system. If you're using the mic then fine, you need to. But if you just want to leave it plugged in because you just don't want to fiddle with it, but not use it, the mic preamp noise will still be there. -

Best eq to boost mids cleanly and assign to Exp pedal
pfsmith0 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Please note that on most of these amps the MID control is a cut control. You either cut a lot or not as much. If you want a MID boost then you'll have to do that with an EQ. You can see this in the frequency responses described here. -
Which of the 2.6 firmware model packs amps have 'pre' models?

Over 60. Couldn't/wouldn't/shouldn't lug around my amp anymore.

The Mission Line 6 EP1-L6 is the best I've found. Nice and sturdy.

You'll need two buttons to get this kind of control: off-off on-off off-on and then you'll get on-on for free. With one button you get either: on-on, off-off, or on-off, off-on

I think this might be a Windows thing. You want Windows to pass USB audio to Cubase but not to the monitors. You want only Cubase to send audio to the monitors. Look in the Windows mixer controls to find the combination that works. I can't give you more clues because I use SPDIF, not USB, into an external sound card.
-
Yes, you have to use the System Settings on the unit (not thru the Edit GUI) to switch the HD500 from ABCD mode to FS1-8 mode. It's in the manual.
-
Wait, why do you want an EQ control on FRFR monitors? That would destroy the FRFR part.
-
I even noticed the delay's comb filter effect with the mix control of, say, the wah. The signal going thru the wah is processed and, therefore, delayed. The dry signal is not delayed and is mixed with the delayed wet signal. You get a big old' notch in the middle of the passband. This may not be bad, but it's there. You'd think they'd be able to match wet/dry delays within a given FX, but it doesn't seem they did this.

Guitar/same just has too much noise/hiss to my liking. Guitar/variax is noticeably quieter. This is with the guitar unplugged so I'm not talking about any 60 cycle/lighting/RFI effects. This is just the old plain electrical noise floor I'm talking about. But I don;t need a lot of signal in my patches. I don't drive anything very hard. But if I need to, I can always add an FX block to give me more signal. This way I have the best of both worlds. Low noise when I need it. More signal when I need it.
-
Another difference you'll experience is the short mute you hear when switching between patches goes away when using FS1-8 mode. This makes ABCD mode unusable for me. There is no mute in FS1-8 mode. I switch patches only on a song-by-song basis when I don't care about the mute. That's usually when I need different amp sounds anyway.
-
Since you have a tube mic then I'd just use a blank signal chain. You already have the preamp as part of your mic. Set Mic/Guitar hard left/right at the mixer and separately control their relative volume levels at the mixer.
-
There's a mic volume control on the back of the HD500x that has quite a bit of gain for the XLR input. Be sure to turn it up. Also, if your mic needs phantom power then you're out of luck as the XLR connector on the HD500x does not provide that.
-
You'll find what Resonance does here. I did not measure any increase in fizz with resonance increase. It only affected the low frequencies. I agree with duncann above. Increasing resonance will increase the low frequencies, forcing you to reduce the volume some, making the fizziness less.
-
Yes, I made those measurements. You'll find them here. Medieval is right. Only the extreme high and low ends are affected with the Global EQ is ON or Off at the default settings. I doubt any one playing rock can hear the difference.
-
Agree with Charlie Watt. Another idea, the FX Loop is stereo, I believe. Use the SEND as the stereo output.
-
Don't ignore the Pres! They give you a whole 'nother set of sounds to choose from. Many are quite a bit different from their Full counterparts. Treat just like another amp choice.
-
I measured what the Resonance does here and you can see all it does is add gain below 3kHz, mostly below 700 Hz. It's similar to turning up the bass and mid tone controls. So, yes, the relative hiss level, which is high frequency, will go down. Or, alternatively, it will get muddier. Plus, the overall signal level goes up so you'll have to turn the volume level back down to keep it sounding the same "loudness". Everything you've experienced makes sense to me.
