Using the 1/2 Returns method means you have to set that up on every preset you want to use. Bluetooth headphones have way too much latency. If you use the Helix as your AI (Audio Interface) with a proper internet connected computer, Spotify and Youtube will play back over USB1/2 directly to the headphone out (bypasses the signal chain). If you get pro-grade guitar (at least G10) and IEM wireless you should have negligible latency. Downside - Pro-grade wireless stuff, especially IEM rigs, ain't cheap!

Also, higher end PA speakers have DSP settings to take out lows when the speaker is on the floor. The TS312 doesn't have that, so elevating it off the floor helps.

I presume (based on your use of the winking emoji) that you're being sarcastic, as opposed to making a statement that anyone who likes the Helix cabs is lazy and a tasteless, second rate artist?

I also own the Redwirez Big Box. IMO, they sound really good. The L6 cabs also sound really good. Could it be that both companies made REALLY GOOD IRs from very similar cabs with very similar mics, using similar techniques, and THAT'S why they sound similar? Other companies make IRs from similar cabs with similar mics using different techniques, and some of them sound different. SURPRISE! Bottom line, there's very little percentage in L6 stealing Redwirez IRs and claiming them as their own. In fact, if they were using Redwirez IRs it would be a marketing advantage to properly license them and advertise them as such, like Scuffham does with S-Gear. Redwirez, though not currently en vogue, makes really fine IRs! FWIW - I own the Big Box and IRs from Ownhammer, Rosen, 3 Sigma, TwoNotes and Kazrog. All fine products with slight differences in sound that make them all useful in different situations. It's a GLORIOUS rabbit hole!

Remote control for Helix floor, you know, like a TV remote!
rd2rk replied to katerlouis's topic in Helix
OK! IF (as I believe to be the case) the BCR/BCF2000 does NOT require a driver (except for USB), then you can control everything EXCEPT the joystick, page, global and bypass/action functions (other than the basic bypass ON/OFF) from a stand. AT PRESENT, the only way to control the joystick (and other mentioned) functions remotely is with HX Edit, which would require a laptop. ANY controller which DOES NOT require a driver AND/OR USB power can do this. I tested this by assigning the DRIVE function of an amp to the Expression Pedal of an FCB1010, using the 5 pin MIDI DIN plug on the Helix. I DID NOT test this using USB, because ALL USB MIDI interfaces THAT I KNOW OF require a driver. ALSO, keep in mind that the MIDI settings CAN NOT be assigned GLOBALLY. EVERY preset would require setting ALL of the MIDI assignments INDIVIDUALLY. BIG PITA! BOTTOM LINE - to do what you want in a practical manner, your best solution for LIVE use is a laptop on a stand. If you're only needing this solution for programming (not LIVE), you might as well put the Helix on the stand and clean the yucky buttons as you go. Happy Thanksgiving! -

I get it now (I think). You want the visuals of HX Edit, but don't have a touchscreen attached to your computer, therefore want knobs? You can do everything from the HX Edit screen with a touchscreen monitor, but even though I have one ( 17" laptop with touchscreen), it's easier (for me) with a mouse. If you have an iPad, that video shows how to do it, but I'm imagining trying to read and manipulate the controls on that tiny display. If you DON'T have an iPad, a touchscreen monitor would probably be cheaper than buying one. I may have given you some bad info on the nanoKontrol. Since it requires a Korg driver, it won't work except when attached to a computer, and I don't think there's an iOS driver, so it wouldn't work with the iPad. Nor would a MIDX20 work, for the same reasons. I tried getting it to work with HX Edit directly (not thru the Helix) , but no go, HX Edit doesn't see the nanoKontrol. Even if it didn't require a driver, it takes it's power over USB, and Helix USB doesn't provide power over the USB, so the cable you mentioned won't work. So a touchscreen seems to be the only way to go. -
If you're going to use Amplitube or BIAS FX, hang onto the HD, you'll appreciate the extra buttons, LEDs and the Expression Pedal. Also, if you've never tried it, using MIDI with BIAS FX is a PITA on more levels than I want to get into here. Worst MIDI implementation of all, and I have ALL the majors - Amplitube, Guitar Rig, GTR3, S-Gear, TH3 and lots of lesser players.

Not sure what ALL you're after doing. Outside of HX Edit, assigning and moving blocks is always going to require the joystick. If you want to control amp/fx parameters from an external controller, you'd first need to find one with enough rotaries/sliders AND old fashioned MIDI DIN connectors for your needs. The only ones I can think of are the Behringer BCF/BCR2000 controllers. Big and bulky, but lots of rotaries/sliders. Also, I think they've been discontinued, so you'd need to find one used, not usually a problem on eBay. You might also use a Korg nanoKontrol2 (small and light, 8 rotaries/8 sliders or original nanoKontrol [discontinued] if you can find one, 9/9 x 4 scenes=144, way more than you need), but it's USB, so you'd need a MIDI HOST device like the MIDX20 between the nanoKontrol and Helix. The external MIDI device needs to be transmitting on the Helix Base Channel. Then just select the parameter (either on the Helix or in HX Edit), press and hold the corresponding rotary on the Helix (or right click the slider in HX Edit, select MIDI CC), then set the MIDI CC# and Range. Consult the Helix manual for RESERVED CC#s. DON'T FORGET TO SAVE! -
From the manual: 20.GUITAR IN Connect your primary guitar or bass guitar here. This jack provides impedance selection and a switchable pad. 21.AUX IN (10kΩ) Connect a secondary, active-pickup equipped guitar or bass here.

What version did you update to, and do you have the matching HX Edit version?
-
Can't speak of the Powercab, but the first thing to do is to eliminate the Helix as the problem by using it with headphones or with studio monitors. If that checks out, either someone here will help out, or you can try the Powercab and Helix threads in the Digital and Modeling section on Gearpage.

You need to put a FX Loop Block between the distortions and reverb/chorus fx.

When you're using Helix with ASIO, Helix is your sound card, not your computer. You may need to change some settings in Globals (I have the Helix Floor), but It's probably setup by default for the output from your DAW to bypass Helix processing. This way, with the DAW Track Monitor button OFF, you hear the recorded DAW tracks playing back, and your guitar signal is direct, no latency.

Using Ableton Live to switch Helix Setlists/Patches/Snapshots

You're not the first to notice this. There's another thread on that subject which, last time I checked, had no solution. I suggest that you might have better luck on an Ableton forum. -
Using Ableton Live to switch Helix Setlists/Patches/Snapshots
rd2rk replied to stevenallen81's topic in Helix
Unlike a preset, a Live Set is a file, with a file extension (.als). It lives in the computer's file system. There's no way to call a file system function (LOAD PATH/PROGRAM/FILE) using MIDI, even from within Ableton. . Once you've loaded a Live Set manually, most other Ableton functions can be controlled with MIDI from your Helix. For instance, within a Live Set, you could load a different selection of VST presets by setting the VSTs to "listen" on different MIDI Channels, then send Program Changes on those channels using Instant Commands. -
Do a search on Ideascale to see if they've already been requested. If yes, VOTE! If NO, REQUEST!

What I'M saying is that, if you MUST, for some reason, monitor the Helix signal through the DAW while recording (thus making the channel strip monitor button not a solution), then using an external sound card is your best option, UNLESS..... If you set your presets' outputs to USB 1/2, and in Globals, set "USB IN 1/2 Destination" to 1/4", does that work? Try it! Worst that could happen is a small thermonuclear explosion that destroys everything in a 5 mile radius.....
-
And I use a nanoKontrol for the DAW UI, so I don't have to wrestle with the nasty mouse......
-
This is also how I do it, using a Focusrite 18i20. While the Helix works fine as an Audio Interface, you're limited by it's routing capabilities. It also has slightly higher latency than the Focusrite (2nd gen) and many other AI's. Unless you're using additional effects in your DAW, there really isn't any reason to monitor recording Helix through the DAW, you're just adding latency, which is why I suggested the Channel Monitoring switch.
-
Sorry, I misread. If you want to monitor the Helix while recording, then the Channel monitoring switch is your only option.
-
You could turn the Helix channel monitor switch in your DAW OFF, or set it to AUTO (usually means monitor playback only). Or you could set the Big Knob to 1/4" and turn it down when recording.

Come off it phil! we KNOW that L6 is part of the vast Illuminati plot to control the world! That plot depends upon constant sales of increasingly advanced mind control devices such as the Helix and AI embedded microwave ovens......
